In this easy-to-read introduction to relational concepts, Big Bird and Elmo discover that sometimes it's not easy being big and sometimes it's not easy being small. But sometimes it is!

In this oh-so-easy-to-read introduction to spatial relationships, Big Bird and Small Bird discover that sometimes it's not easy being big and sometimes it's not easy being small. But sometimes it is.

This is a good book for the very young reader to get into. Especially if they are into Sesame Street Characters. You would think by the title that this is a story about Big Bird's problems being too big. But in actuality what the book is about is comparisons between big and small.

See? Not only does Big Bird have problems because he is too big, but Elmo has his own problems as well because he is too small. The book then goes into detail about comparing Big, Bigger and Biggest as well as describing Small, Smaller and Smallest.

So, other than the title being a little off in regards to what the book is really about, it still a good read for the youngsters. The print is a good size for them to follow with their fingers and sound out the words. The Illustrations match the actions the words portray.

I would recommend this book for the very young reader. ( )

Personal Reaction
Sesame street books are what I used to teach my own children.

Classroom Extensions
1. Have a discussion by asking children to name somethings that are tall and short.
2. Show a video of tall and short animals that are real.
3. Measure the children at the beginning of the school year and then at the end to show them that they are growing all of the time. ( )

This is a great book for a child who loves Sesame Street! It takes pictures from "everyday" life and relates them to the size of Big Bird and Elmo. Kids learn big and small through the antics of Sesame Street Characters. ( )

A Bright and Early book from Random House and the Children's Television Workshop, takes the basic concepts of big and small and puts them both in a fun, brightly illustrated tale for youngsters. One lesson will include taking the basic concepts of big and small and putting them both in a fun tale for children. ( )

This book is about the positives and negatives of being big. It would be great for 1st Graders. The reason i would suggest this to my class would be so that they can practice reading as well as learn about differences in people for better social acceptance.

This book is a great book for the first day of school. Everyone is different and students need to realize that. Pretty much, Big Bird is too big for everything and Elmo is too small for everything. It is a good book that you can share with your students the first day of school. ( )

This story was about a big bird and a small animal named elmo. The big bird was too big to play and hide and elmo was too small to reach and too small to throw a football. It can sometimes be easy if you are big or small. This story teaches children that if you are a small kid or a big kid it will sometimes be easier to do things.

I read a lot of Elmo books over and over and I really don't mind this one. It's pretty good. Reminds me of P.D. Eastman or Dr. Seuss a bit. ( )
