This collection is just schlocky fun.
I don't usually like short story collections, often I find that the stories are just meh and there is no follow through, and often collections are mostly weak with a few memorable ones sprinkled through. I hadn't heard of this author before, and could hardly find any information about her, but her writing is strong, and some of the stories in this collection are genuinely fascinating and suspenseful. I think it's a shame that she isn't more widely known, or that this collection isn't widely read.
My favourite stories from this collection are:
In the Shadows of My Fear
The Magic Coin
Just a Little Thing
While none of these are masterpieces they are fun, accessible horror. The theme of 'Cravings' is clear and makes sense, and each story has a different approach to it.
Give it a try.
I really enjoyed this book. It had some cringy moments that were perfectly framed to unnerve the reader. My only problem with the book was the pacing. The book seemed to amble on for most of the narrative arc, with plenty of not-to-subtle foreshadowing before leaping into the final act and speeding through the main impetus of the story. It made the ending seem like a bit of an afterthought. The very end of the story, the epilogue, was unnecessary and again seemed a little obvious and unsatisfying. For the most part, however, the characters were interesting and their relationships were complex

I wish I'd liked this novel. It had all the makings of an interesting story, but the writing was often poor and lumbersome, it seemed to go on forever, and none of the characters were particularly interesting. A lot of the scenes and character motivations were bewildering, and there seemed to be a lot of padding for very little pay off. A disappointment.

While these stories were interesting, I must read too much horror because I didn't find them particularly horrific. All of the stories ended weirdly abruptly, and the title story in particular had some really annoying little elements that prevented me from enjoying the story (like the triple repetition of words that made me cringe every time) plus the ending was weird and tonally completely different from the rest of the story. The obsession with twins was a bit weird too, especially since both stories had very similar relationship dynamics, it felt like I was reading the same story.
In short, don't think this writer is for me, but some of the concepts were very interesting

As with any anthology there were some hits and misses in this series. I liked the collection and how the stories and illustration styles contrasted to each other. There were some stories that seemed a little obvious, and others left me feeling a little dumbfounded, and I'm not sure whether I just didn't understand them. Overall it was a decent anthology, and I'm looking forward to the second book.

Can't help but feel that this story would have been better shorter, and with less suspenseless suspense. Shame, from a prolific author like Stephen King.
In a literary world which is consumed by postmodern fancy, it is such a relief to read something something so fun and lighthearted.
