I found that I just didn't really like any of the characters, they were all kind of terrible people to varying degrees. I want to be able to root for someone in a story. It was also really long and rather convoluted.
I wanted to like it more, but honestly found it rather confusing through a lot of it. I listened to the audiobook but kept thinking I must've missed something. I think it was partly done on purpose, but it was just a little hard to follow sometimes, though I do admit it could be my own attention span this week.
Didn't really like it. It was hard to follow at times (or not interesting enough to keep my attention enough to follow, as I was listening to the audiobook). I was really put off by the fatphobia in parts of it. Based on the cover and title you'd think it'd be a romance, but there wasn't really any of that. Overall it just didn't make me care about the story or characters.
I didn't know what I was getting into with the book so it was a fun surprise for me that it was set in Ontario and has a ton of great Canadian references. I loved the diversity and representation within the book and enjoyed the story.
That said, it felt like it just kind of glossed over or didn't adequately tackle that the basis of the whole genetic matchmaking system in the world is kinda...eugenics-y?
