Kiss the Girl: A Meant to Be Novel (edition 2024)by Zoraida Córdova (Author), Inés del Castillo (Narrator), Anthony Rey Perez (Narrator), Hyperion Avenue (Publisher)Kinda biased 'cause FINALLY a main character with my name! The Plot: Ariel del Mar is part of the hit sensation Siren Seven, a girl group made up of her and all her sisters. Siren Seven is playing their farewell tour with all the gals ready to go out and find their own thing, but Ariel's dad has other plans for her. Back out on the road and starting her own breakout solo gig. But...she wants moooooore ;) Ariel's sister drags her out to a local music venue where she runs into the attractive lead singer Eric Reyes. They connect, he invites her out on tour in a desperate attempt at true love, and she agrees, sneaking out the night before she was supposed to debut her solo career. My Thoughts: I love this series! I'm reading it all backwards, but it is truly so much fun. BTW although these are in a series, they can be read as standalones. I admire how the author reimagined this story, small little snippets from the movie beautifully integrated themselves throughout the story. I love a good Clark Kent disguise and the fact that Ariel's hair isn't actually red in this book. The side characters had their own lives and plots, we had cute name drops here and there, and Triton was a great villain. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series! Kiss the Girl Meant to Be, Book 3 I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve enjoyed other books in the series. Media Type: Audiobook Source: RC Public Library Dates Read: 7/10/24 - 7/11/24 Stars: 4 Stars Narrator(s): Inès del Castillo and Anthony Rey Perez The Characters: Melody “Ariel” Del Mar: Eric Reyes: Melody’s Sisters, Eric’s band mates The Story: I haven’t been feeling very verbose, so I only have “I liked it” to say. Writing: Very good. Overall Interest: So good. I would have never imagined this twist on The Little Mermaid. Length of Reading Time: Good. I really got addicted and finished way faster than expected. Re-read-ability: I probably would not. I received this book in exchange for an honest review thanks to Netgalley I'm sure it was no coincidence that this book is slated to come out the same year as the live action The Little Mermaid. As a girl who was born in the 90's, I grew UP with the Little Mermaid. I was obsessed or so my mom tells me. (I don't fully remember). This book was a complete delight as a modern retelling of The Little Mermaid. I appreciated that Melody, "Ariel" is a pop star whose "rebellion" is wanting to leave the spotlight behind. Her dad is a combo of Ursula and King Triton (and yeah, I kind of hated him) but otherwise, every single character is likeable. Eric, the guitar playing heartthrob. All seven sisters have a CLOSE relationship. It was refreshing to have positive relationships. Yes, there was the typical misunderstandings that often happen in romcoms. It was predictable, yes, but still adorable. I'd almost call this new adult, even more than adult. It's cleaner than Colleen Hoover (one brief, non explicit sex scene in Kiss the Girl). It has lots of crossover appeal! |
