Loading... Sneezy the Snowman (edition 2013)by Maureen Wright (Author), Stephen Gilpin (Illustrator)This is my first time reading this story and I thought it was very funny and cute! Any child would love reading this story and being informed on the many different forms of heat that can melt snow. This book also comes with plenty of rhymes and pictures that kids would love to analyze and ask questions about. “Aaaaaachooooo!” Sneezy the Snowman is catching a cold, and he needs to figure out appropriate ways to keep warm in the midst of winter weather. Since he is made of snow, he learns that he melts when around warm things like hot cocoa, a warm bath, or a fire. However, plenty of clothes can keep him from winter’s worst effects like sickness. This book, appropriate for kids in preschool up to early elementary school, teaches little ones about how to handle themselves in the midst of cold weather. It also teaches how snow behaves in different environments. The story unfolds repetitively so that it can interject a small or large group with raucous laughter. This book is well-suited for the winter months and especially around the December winter holidays. Sneezy the Snowman is cold so he tries several different things to help warm him up like drinking hot chocolate, wearing a scarf, and sitting in a hot tub. Naturally, these things make him melt because they are too hot. This book has a rhyming, repetitive pattern that is funny, engaging and invites participation from the audience. One of my favorites! Sneezy the Snowman realizes he is too cold. His friends help him come up with several ways to help him warm up. Each idea makes him melt, until they decide to give him a jacket, scarf, and hat. Unfortunately, Sneezy is then too hot! Sneezy and his friends come up with a smart way to keep Sneezy at just the right temperature! Sneezy the Snowman gets cold one day. He drinks a warm drinks and melts. Children build him up again and gave him hat. Sneezy once again got cold and sat in a hot tub. He melted again, and was rebuilt once more. The children fitted him with a scarf. That still was not enough. Sneezy was cold and sat by a campfire. Once again, he melted. The children again rebuilt him fitted with a coat. Sneezy was then too warm and then ate an ice cream cone so he was the perfect temperature. Overall, this was a book that I found to be a very good read. I talked to a second-grade teacher and she said this was very popular in her class. The illustrations are very rich and colorful, and the story in fun and a good fit for a younger child. This would be a good story for children to read when the cold is coming and they are learning to dress properly Summary: This picture book is about Sneezy who is a snowman. Sneezy is very cold, and tries various things to keep him warm. However, each time he melts so the children have to make him new again. After each attempt, they give him an article of clothing to help keep him warm. Eventually, Sneezy gets too warm, and has to eat ice cream to cool off! Personal Reaction: The one thing I love most about winter is snowmen! Every time it snows it's the first thing I want to make. Classroom Extension Ideas 1) In the classroom, we can make snowmen out of paper plates and markers. 2) We can talk about the importance of being kind to others, and about the importance of sharing. |
