This is a really hard one to review, it is literally the publishing of the much-missed Alan Rickman’s diaries. Heavily edited, we are given a chapter for each year year of his life shortly after his first movie breakthrough role at the age of 42, Hans Gruber from ‘Die Hard’.
Rickman’s acerbic wit…blunt honesty and joy for life shines through as we live his life through movies he appears in, the thoughts on those he works with and the genuine love for all those he connects with.
We are taken through his exasperation of the press at linking him with certain roles…’Playing Doctor Who? Rubbish’…his wonderful insight into those around him and a real and profound sharing of friendships and relationships.
We see life through his eyes..the loss of colleagues…the loss of his mother and the loss of his health are all laid out before us. But the love of his partner who he then marries spring off the page and are so heart warming….honest and true.
I wasn’t sure how to write a review of someone’s daily events…but somehow…like Rickman’s diaries…it simply happened.
Highly recommended.… (more)
