About the Author
Datus Proper was born in Iowa, went to grade school in Mammoth Hot Springs, high school at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, and graduated from Cornell University. A career member of the Foreign Service, Proper served in Angola, Brazil, Ireland, and Washington, D.C. Now retired, he lives on show more the banks of a spring creek in the Gallatin Valley of Montana, "surrounded by schools of trout, wisps of snipe, sords of mallards, and nides of pheasants." His articles appear frequently in Field and Stream, Trout, and other important outdoor journals show less

Well, I finished it. That was more a tribute to my desire to learn more about Portugal than the book. It was well written but more "The Compleat Angler" redux than information about Portugal and its people.
Essays on aspects of Portugal and Portuguese culture. The author's point of view was at times condescending and misogynistic.
