Another good book by McIntosh. Enjoyable read. Agents of the central body of planets investigate the culture of Noman. Why have past agents died there? One of the better UK authors from the Golden Age of SF.

I really like McIntosh but this book was of (three star) average quality. Not a bad story idea but I was disappointed in where it went. I'll still read all of his books because some of them are jewels.

I really like McIntosh but this book just never held my interest. Not one of his better efforts. I'm being kind to give it 3 stars.

I like McIntosh's novels but this one failed me for a couple of reasons.
First is my personal distain for the endless supply of dystopian novels. Yes, it will suck if society collapses. All these stories end the same. A few good people will band together to scavenge the degrading tech that makes life a step above the Amish. Mostly all tech knowledge will be lost for centuries.
Secondly this story is not nearly as good as many of his other novels.
