I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever been entranced by a book like this. I’ve read tons of beautifully written and crafted novels in my time but nothing quite like this. There are so many complex ideas and metaphors that all make sense whilst also making sure you’re never 100% sure what’s going on and I loved it. Everything about this book is incredible, whether I understand the ending or not.

I read one of Emezi's adult books a few years ago, so when I saw this new book on the shelf I was interested to read it. This is a YA novel. It is written for a young YA writing-wise, yet for an older YA thematically, so it was a bit of a struggle. There's no subtext - only text. There's no complexity - only presentation. I do not think that I'd recommend this.

Osita's cousin Vivek has always been a little...different. He's a little more sensitive, a little more in his own world, and unusual in some other ways at odds with traditional Nigerian culture.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. The storytelling is really quite wonderful, and I know I was engaged while in the narrative, but just a few days afterward I had nearly completely forgotten the details. I guess it didn't really stick with me? I'd still recommend it, though. There is a lot of insight into contemporary Nigerian culture and its complexities. Be forewarned that there is no happy ending.… (more)

Lady is playing dick leap frog in the same pond of dudes. The writing was funny and at times had depth but it's not my kind of romance.
