Short biography
A/P Ryan Bishop has been at NUS since 1999, when he originally joined the American Studies Centre as a Senior Fulbright Scholar.

He has also had Fulbright scholarships in Thailand and Yugoslavia. His publications are varied, including work on critical theory, urbanism, knowledge and discipline formation within the university, avant-garde aesthetics, military technology, and international sex tourism. He is currently Associate Professor in the Dept. of English Language and Literature, where he teaches a range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has received several teaching awards and research grants from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at NUS, and serves as the convener of the Cultural Studies Minor. Beginning in November of 2006, he was appointed to the University Research Council’s Expert Panel on Humanities, Social Sciences and Business. Along with John Armitage (Northumbria) and Douglas Kellner (UCLA), Ryan Bishop co-edits the journal Cultural Politics, and he serves on the editorial board of Theory, Culture & Society while also serving on the International Advisory Board of several other IRJs.
