Murder in the Holy City (A Sir Geoffrey Mappestone… by Simon Beaufort
2.5 stars. Too many murders, too many suspects. Making it overly complicated took away from the characters and story.
Way too many characters & deaths to keep track of. By the end it was a boring struggle. Disappointing.
Matthew and brother Michael investigate a series of killings in the shadow of unrest caused by the return of a couple of young men pardoned by the King, and the feelings inspired by the fake relic, the Hand.
December has brought unusually heavy snow and freezing weather to Cambridge, but celebrations for the 12 days of Christmas are overshadowed for Matthew by the latest cases of unexpected deaths and killings that seem to be linked somehow. I felt the conclusion to the story went on for too long, but you can't say this book missed twists and turns.
