Nina Bangs was born in San Antonio, but spent most of her life in New Jersey. Somewhere between California and Texas she grew addicted to romance novels and cats. Before settling down to a teaching career, she dabbled in a variety of jobs ranging from working with Arabian horses to singing in Irish pubs. Why am I reading trashy vampire romance novels? Because it's totally the hottest trend in publishing right now. Duh.

But, man, I must have picked a bad one. This writing made me want to hold my nose.

This is a novella/prequel to the Castle of Dark Dreams series.
Amanda and Conleth are mentioned in book 1 as the interior designer and the painter, respectively, of the castle, and they turned out to be Sparkle’s first victims. Errr… the lucky chosen ones Sparkle decided to help in sexy, naughty ways. Mandy and Con are fighting their attraction to each other every step of the way, however, and Sparkle has her work cut out for her.
Since the book is a prequel, we get to see the castle in the newly named Live the Fantasy theme park before it became the darkly sensual Castle of Dark Dreams. Holgarth is as snarky as ever in his wizard outfit, and Sparkle’s in charge of the candy store. The best part? Deimos is still there, but his personality is different. Though he’s still shy and doesn’t care much about sexual chaos to Sparkle’s chagrin, he’s surprisingly halfway interested in sex, he wants to destroy things, and he’s not really interested in action hero stuff—which is a big difference to his character in the other books.
It’s a fun story, but there wasn’t a villain or a complex storyline. However, it was interesting to learn how the castle’s paint job, design, and decorations came to be. I liked the story, but it’s not needed to understand the full-length books in the series.

In the fourth book of the Castle of Dark Dreams series, Cinnamon (Cinn) Airmid is the botanist who created Sweetie Pie and Jessica, plants who thrive off sexual energy. Hired to create more plants for the Live the Fantasy theme park, everything is going good for her until she meets the insane, enraged vampire chained in the dungeon.
Dacian is a vampire and has spent centuries running from Stephan, his sadistic maker. With both Cinn and his brother Taurin to protect, Dacian will do anything to free himself from Stephan’s clutches once and for all.
This novel seems to directly follow the novella, Hot Summer Bites, and should be read together. Since I haven’t read the novella, I was often confused when reading this book. The theme park and some of the characters from the previous full-length books have gone through some big changes, and there were few explanations as to why.
I couldn’t connect with either the H/h. While I enjoyed the romance and them falling in love, they seemed more interested in having sex, eating, and sleeping while their friends fought the bad guy. Their lack of action just didn’t seem right to me.

In the fifth book of the Castle of Dark Dreams series, Edge, a seriously HOT cosmic troublemaker, deals in death but is bored with his job. He follows the rules for the most part, but a strange urge forces him to lash out and hurt people. He can’t stop it. Ganymede and Sparkle, two other troublemakers who live and work with him at the Castle of Dark Dreams, a role-playing attraction at the Live the Fantasy theme park, are suffering the same unexplainable urges.
Passion is an angel sent to earth in her human form as punishment for trying to have fun and liven up bland, boring Heaven. She’s tasked with saving the corrupt souls at the castle, but all the irredeemable creatures overwhelm her. Especially Edge. He’s the darkest, deadliest, and sexiest man she’s ever met, but beneath his cold exterior, she finds the heart of someone worth saving.
Though I figured out who the villain was early on, a few other characters surprised me. Most of the regular cast is back (with the exception of Eric, Brynn, Conall, and their ladies) and some new characters appear. Zane the Sorcerer, Bain, and Murmur were very compelling, and Zane connection to Holgarth is awesome. We finally get to meet the Big Boss, Bourne. Totally awesome!
The twist at the end didn’t surprise me, but the battle leading up to the “Ahhhhh, that makes sense!” moment kept my eyes glued to the page. The scenes flow smoothly despite the head hopping. I enjoyed the story (my second favorite in the series), and I’m glad I read it.
