“Death always seems to come for you whether you are machine or organic, entropy seem to always win.
Maybe that's the lesson we all need to learn before it’s too late. Time is precious to us and we need to live and love while we can still do so.”

“You mean the whole thing with the waiter? That was nothing” Alex genuinely did not consider it a matter of import.
“Really? Alex, you expect me to believe that it was nothing?”
Alex thought about for a minute, chewed his rib eye and simply answered, “yes”

“The people in this dream were not figments of his imagination alone. He was not dealing with just confused emotional issues resurfacing, not if he was right. He was dealing with something more. The evidence itself, if he was right, was the best expositor of the party. This was especially true when one puts it together with his last memory.
It was incredible! It couldn't be true, could it? I might be hearing people' thoughts? How? Why? There simply has to be another explanation. Why now? Why me? Could this be a result of the selection pressures placed on organisms that I learned about in science class?
Alex understood that he was intelligent and that there were selection pressures that were placed on an organism by the environment and by other means, but he did not understand why it would happen to him and not others. It was not like there was a shortage of wealthy kids, or wealthy handicap kids, as far as he knew.”

“In a world of general relativity, special relativity, string and super-string theory among other scientific oddities, Mattie Bennings would not have been all too surprised to know that as Alex Wayne, her close friend, had been locked in a battle of minds with another person, his body lay unconscious until the end.
The fact that it had happened during the whole time from school to hospital, still somehow, though, escaped her notice until they were in the very room Alex was wheeled into upon arrival. In the journey to the hospital and through the gurney being transported to a room Alex only conveyed muscle spasms and pain, but when they got to his newly acquired room all hell had broken loose.”

“The failure of losing so many of them would haunt her forever and now Alex was in trouble and she felt like she was failing again. Not this time, not with Alex. I'll succeed if I have to rip the Mover apart with my bare hands! The Mover's fate for Alex's life will be what Alex wills for his life! Blessed Divinity, you cannot make this his fate! My life for his, any other life on earth for his please!
Momentarily, Kera had been taken aback at the fact that she prayed and to the concept of God that her disenfranchised Veldean forebears had given her. It often bewildered her that in times of stress she had learned to pray to a God of a people she had despised, especially since she had been an artificial construct of theirs. She eventually had made the assumption that it was all part of having a soul, of being dunjo, as they would have said on a now dead planet.”

“Patrick Leonidas Wayne! you will explain yourself right now, or I will hand your ass to you on a silver platter like John the Baptist had his served up. Am I clear?”

“Jessica… Jesse! You have to stop this now!” Patrick held the arm that she was going to use to strike her victim still as gently as he could while still retaining control of the limb.
Jessica stopped and forcefully pulled her arm out of Patrick's grip before glaring at him and the now unconscious doctor. Then she spoke firmly and resolutely.
“What was I supposed to do? Let her cut open our son? Let her risk any chance of us saving him?”
“No, of course not! But look closer Jessica. Look at the table! Look at the boy.”
When Patrick asked her to look, she was suddenly furious at him. She did not want to look at her poor dead Alexander, cold on a metal slab. She knew, however, that she would eventually have to look so she did.
What she saw made her feel worse not better. It was not her son on the autopsy table. It was another teenage boy that was about Alexander's age but not the same weight, eye colour, or hair colour. She put her hands to her face and cried then.”

“Patrick... now? Is it that important? We have more important things to do to figure out a way to save our son, your son.”
“It is probably one of the most important things that we could possibly do Jess, not only Alexander's life might depend on it but the entire hospital”
“what could be that important, tell me!” came back the reply behind Patrick as he ran two rooms down the hall. The only words he uttered, looking back at Jessica, was “the ring”

“The dust on his face now turning to mild streaks of mud, where his tears fell, made him seem like an operatic clown character in Pagliacci when he looked at the inscription for the first time.
To Alexander, my son, you are our brightest star. Always remember the only future you are ever guaranteed is the one you make for yourself. Willpower, Wisdom and intelligence are the keys—Love Dad
Upon reading the words in the ring Alex realized that when he lost in his mental battle. He had given into fate, in all its entropic nonsense. He let it dictate his world. He had surrendered in what he thought was a victory and left himself at the whimsical and incidental forces of chance.”

“Alex was enlivened by his father's love and felt energized. He knew he would return home; he had felt his strength return a soon as he put on his ring. It was this strength, he thought, that coursed throughout his body that travelled down his spine and then caused his leg muscles to spasm and convulse. The ring imparted more than love, either his father’s, mother's or unknown to him Kera's love.
The ring with all its radioactivity could have powered a small city for almost 28 years and now that energy coursed through Alex and his alien physiology. The energy for a city had outlets, junctures and relays along with other electronic devices to distribute that energy and regulate it. Alex's body was new to the experience of this type of phenomenon and it distributed poorly.
When his legs convulsed and shook and his spine became alight as fire running down an oil spill, Alex screamed in a ghastly howl that could be heard outside the tomb, as if some rambling soul or spirit had just arisen for vengeance upon those that placed him in the grave.”

“He was terrified not because he thought the guy was lying to him or that the man was deranged but because he believed this geezer. He believed him on an almost instinctual or reflexive level that bordered on an emotional bonding.
Alex knew that he could not be his biological father because he was from another planet, this guy was human, all his history and personal data said so. He thought that maybe the panic was getting to him, but something inside said no.
Tasha had taught him to trust his intuition, but he did not think she would like what it was telling him now. So, all Alex could do was utter teenage male bravado.
“Why should I believe you, old man? you might be pulling my leg to stall till the police get here! Besides… let's see you do what I can do”
Patrick knew that he was going to lose this battle fast if he did not come up with an answer quick. He remembered that kind of scared brashness in himself and it was not good. It meant that Alex was right on the edge of not listening to reason in any way shape or form.
Patrick's dad would have beat him for not answering but he would never do that to this son, never in a million years.
Alex was feeling panicked but this time he knew it was the man in front of him that was panicked. He liked the idea of making the old guy squirm. It might give him the edge over the man to escape and cloud his memories of the ordeal when he was asleep at home.
“You don't wanna know what I can do to you, old man… I got powers”
“I don't doubt that at all Alex...I'm very impressed actually… probably a maturation of you being Veldean and being powered by gamma radiation”
Patrick, at that point, began walking forward, with hands upraised and palms out, towards Alex in a display of being unarmed. Alex just panicked more.”

“I'm sorry...” was all he said. With that Alexander Julius Wayne disappeared in a green puff and left his father in misery. A misery that soon parlayed itself into a heart attack for a man who just both found and lost his son again for a second time. As Patrick Wayne's body collapsed on the floor chest first and plunged into unconsciousness, one could see tears rolling down his anguished face.”

“Alex was scared beyond belief how did this guy know about his home planet or that he absorbed gamma radiation to remain healthy and get his abilities? Alex was tired of talking and he was now getting angry, this guy would not like him angry. The rage still came, and Alex's eyes began to glow.
He could no longer hear Tasha in his head at that instance, and he just wanted this noob to go away. He raised his right hand and pointed his ring at the older man in front of him and that was when he heard the old man mutter something. Alex could not believe what he was hearing.
“To Alexander, my son, you are our brightest star. Always remember the only future you are ever guaranteed is the one you make for yourself. Willpower, Wisdom and intelligence are the keys—Love Dad”
These words echoed in his mind and these words were only known to him, Tasha, Wanda and his father even by Tasha's recollections. Alex's eyes turned back to the blue green beauties that Patrick and Jessica Wayne loved so well. They also welled up with tears. Tasha had lied to him.”
