it was ok
bookshelves: aty-2024, nonfiction, true-crime

I rarely rate a book below three stars. I prefer nonfiction to fiction, and true crime is a favorite genre of mine. The title captured my attention and I ordered it on audiobook. I had to wait awhile to receive it and many other listeners/readers are waiting in line behind me.

The content is incredibly disturbing, particularly fraternity hazing and the dealing of illegal drugs in stupendous amounts. I did not make it to the murder part of this story. I made it halfway through the book and placed it in the DNF pile. The pace is way too slow and there is a tone of arrogance rather than empathy.

kimberly I had this one on my TBR and, also, waited in a long audiobook line and when I finally got it, something told me not to read it. Sounds like I made the right choice. Thanks for the review, Sharon.

Rosh ~ On Vacation. See you soon! Appreciate your honest review, Sharon!

Brendan (History Nerds United) Sorry you didn't like this one, Sharon. I had a different feeling about it, but I still love getting your viewpoint!

Dan Morris I think it’s disgraceful to write a book when you did not even read the entire thing.

Heather Zwiener It's hard to read especially in the beginning was really upsetting. But as the book goes on it lightens up. But unfortunately that's the horrible culture - now I'm wondering if I showed up in group chats :/

I saw it written from a journalistic point of view - I made my own judgements (it's not hard to know what side to be on)

But my children will never be Greek life - that's all I'll say

Sharon Orlopp Thanks Heather.

Jesseca Moreda The author and subjects are so casual about such an extreme topic. It is also just incredibly dull considering the subject matter. I’m only on page 60 and I’m so bored even though I’m sure there is a story. I’d like to know more about what happens and less about who plays which character during super smash brothers. (Three times we had to hear about super smash brothers.)

Christine As unfortunately disturbing as the subject matter is, it’s accurate. I was in Greek life at an SEC school and I think the author is presenting facts of the story along with history of the organizations. It’s not a feel good story but it’s not supposed to be.

Sharon Orlopp Thanks, Christine.
