Read 2 times. Last read August 31, 2024 to September 1, 2024.
It was a sick case, with torturing psychopaths, which made for tense reading at times. But it also made for a gripping case with Eve, Roarke, and the team fighting a ticking clock because the killers had taken a new victim and they knew she was being tortured, and would be dead in days.
You got some great moments with the team in here, and can I just say how much I like the Baxter/Trueheart partnership? They bring out the best in each other. Eve's entire division is filled with awesome people, and it was nice getting to know Santiago and Carmichael a little more in this one too.
And Banner, the deputy from the Ozarks ... he was a great guest star and I'd be happy to see more of him later in the series. Probably unlikely, but still, he was great.
Also, WHO IS THE CANDY THIEF?! For a long time I thought Feeney, but the encounter with Baxter here ... now I'm thinking it is a game her whole squad is in on. And that's freaking hilarious.

I must have been having a bad day when I rated this one - or maybe the case got to me. Glad you liked it!

It was a rough case, for sure. We've had torture kills before in the series, but this one was like ... especially brutal. Maybe it was the "true love" aspect of it, but yeesh.
I think that because I am gobbling this series up for the people, the case is generally like "Monster of the Week" kind of thing, and sometimes it's really in the background. Not in this one, though. It was front and center here.
