4 1/2 Shining Stars!

OKAY, I'm eating humble pie! I wasn't planning to read this book because I was disappointed in the last one; however, my curiosity got the better me, and what a surprise...this book was TERRIFIC!

Unlike the second book, this one, for me, made sense. I felt Kellan and Kiera were true to their characters, to their past experiences, and to their relationship. This plot was true-to-life and it was refreshing to see two characters already in love working together to keep and maintain their relationship against real-world challenges. My heart broke for them as they battled the insidious environment of the music industry and the injustices heaped upon them. My heart rejoiced for them, however, as they fought tooth-and-nail to preserve their relationship and their love for each other.

In this book Keira's strength of character shined brilliantly, and Kellan...was...well...Kellan...swoon-worthy and perfectly delectable. What can I say...I just loved them! I'm so glad I read this book. Humble pie never tasted so great!!

September 9, 2012 original post

Can someone please tell me how a book that isn't due for release UNTIL March 5, 2013, and is still currently being written, already has 175 ratings?

From what S.C. Stephen's September 3rd, 2012 Facebook update says, she is STILL currently writing this book. You wouldn't know that, however, by the amount of readers who have already rated this unfinished book. Unbelievable!!!

As of today, September 9, 2012, there are:

5 star ratings: 137
4 star ratings: 20
3 star ratings: 4

Sandra It's because GR allows ratings on book that haven't been published yet, or have ARCs available.

GR really needs to stop allowing this sort of stuff to happen. It's very unfair to potential readers who are looking for honest reviews.

Sharon ∞❥ is an emotional book junkie ❥∞ i wish they wouldnt allow it to be rated till it is released though.

jodie louise It's like Walking Disaster that's got a crazy amount of reviews and it's not released till freakin' April.

Kristen OMG! Does Walking Disaster already have a bunch of ratings? WTF?! Why do people rate a book before they've even read the book? (that's a rhetorical question. Lol) It's so crazy!

message 8: by jodie louise (new)

jodie louise Haha yeah i just looked it's got like 177. :| I've seen a few books that get rated before their released and every time it baffles me! Haha. Crazzy people!

Kristen Yep. Crazy people.

Karla Say what???? Unbelievable!

Kristen I know, right? This book already has 137 "5 star" ratings and the book isn't even finished yet. What the hell?! GR need to stop allowing this type of nonsense.

message 12: by Kristen (last edited Sep 09, 2012 08:30PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kristen I really wish GR would do something about this. It's out of control. Most importantly though, it's false advertising.

message 13: by Kristen (last edited Sep 09, 2012 08:56PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kristen I agree, Rane and Jill.

I admire the fans who have posted pictures and expressed pure excitement for a books release without rating the book. I applaud them. They are the ones who are using the correct method to get people hyped and excited for a book's upcoming release. They are the ones to show potential readers what great fans they are of the author and keep their credibility at the same time. They make an author look good. The one who blindly rate a book without reading it first, do nothing but hurt the author's imagine in the end. That's how I look at it anyway.

message 14: by Dee (new)

Dee I agree, it aggravates the hell out of me too! For the life of me I cannot understand why people do that - as you say it distorts and makes a mockery of the review system. I have quite a few books on my shelves where this happens and author still writing it so there can't possibly be any ARC's!

I am not sure there is anything that GR's can do to stop it as would have thought they would need to rely on authors/publishers letting them know when either it has been published or if ARC's are available :((

message 15: by Jacqueline J (new)

Jacqueline J Here's what I wonder. Even though I don't believe in pre rating a book, if you're going to do it I would think a 5 star from a fangirl makes sense and a 1 star from a rabid hater makes sense. But who rates it 2-4 stars? They're essentially saying 'I think I'm going to feel pretty meh about this book'. And the rest of us needed to know you might or might like this book next year, why?

Kristen Dee wrote: "I agree, it aggravates the hell out of me too! For the life of me I cannot understand why people do that - as you say it distorts and makes a mockery of the review system. I have quite a few books ..."

Good point. I'm not sure how GR could control people not giving false ratings when there are important ARC reviews needing to be made. It looks like it's an annoying trend we'll have to put up with. As a result though, the fans giving false ratings have many of us feeling somewhat cynical about those book. I will be very leery to trust the general reviews now.

No doubt! Lol. You're right, the 5 and 1 stars ratings make sense. But what's up with the 4, 3, and 2 star ratings?! That's all kinds of odd. Lol. This trend is odd, so I guess it kinda makes sense some people would rate the book a bit oddly. Hahaha.

I know she's still writing. The whole thing is so ridiculous.

That's true. Although GR is having a hard enough time keeping their website from crashing at the moment. I'm not sure they have the ability to only allow ACR and author issued copies to be reviewed and rated. Maybe someday.

Does anyone know if Amazon has this issue too? I never check Amazon's reviews. I strictly use GR.

Carrie (Badass, Alpha-male, Cowboy Connoisseur ) Totally agree with you babe! I'm looking forward to it too but, how do you rate something that you can't read yet let alone isn't even finished?

Kristen Carrie wrote: "Totally agree with you babe! I'm looking forward to it too but, how do you rate something that you can't read yet let alone isn't even finished?"

I'm not sure, Carrie. I would think it would be next to impossible to rate a book that isn't even finished yet. Lol.

What I really don't get are the 3 star ratings. I understand fangirls giving the 5 stars. I undertstand the haters giving the 1 stars. But the 3 star ratings? Well, that just makes no sense to me. Lol.

Kristen Taryn-does it have romance? wrote: "You can not review a book before it's published on Amazon."

Thanks for answering my question, Taryn. I've never reviewed on Amazon before.

Holly I just love when people go nutty with books that haven't been released yet. Be it the 5 star "omg this is going to be the best book EVER!!!", or 1 star "OMG i hate everyone who even thinks about reading this book." 'reviews'. No wonder some authors have problems taking certain people on GR seriously. :P

Kristen Holly wrote: "I just love when people go nutty with books that haven't been released yet. Be it the 5 star "omg this is going to be the best book EVER!!!", or 1 star "OMG i hate everyone who even thinks about re..."

My thoughts exactly!

Blacky *Romance Addict* OMG! I don't understand people who do that! I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine and she says she does it all the time, some of her friends too. She "knows" she'll love the book and gave it 5 stars even though it isn't even written yet. Now that book has like 3,8 rating, and it isn't even out yet.
GR should TOTALLY disable this option!

figuranta❤️addicted❤️to❤️books❤️ I don't understand how this ppl can be sure that they will love that book? So wot u like the previous book this one can be a total disaster??? i don't get it !!!!

Some one was saying something bout AMAZON if they have the same problem but on AMAZON u can't review a book if its not out yet.

Anne OK I just read a "review" on Amazon yesterday where the reviewer admitted she had just received the book, had not yet read it, but knew it would be a 5-star read for her so she gave the book a pre-read five star rating. Makes absolutely NO SENSE to me!!

Kristen Blacky *I don't want anyone's name in my name* wrote: "OMG! I don't understand people who do that! I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine and she says she does it all the time, some of her friends too. She "knows" she'll love the book and ..."

I agree. It's crazy GR allows ratings of books that aren't even written or have ARC released. Talk about false advertising. It's shocking that someone would rate a book they haven't read. Can you imagine how disappointed they'd be if they actually hated the book?

I know. It's nuts people rate books they've never read. Just because you THINK you'll love something doesn't mean you actually will.

Blacky *Romance Addict* Yeah I know. I mean it's easy to say you'd change your rating after you read the book, but hey, some people may decide never to read it, and the 1,2,3,4,5 star rating would stay. It's just NOT FAIR.

I feel the same way, Anne. It's baffling that some people not only think it's okay to false advertise but knows for sure they'll love something just because they loved the previous books. There are a few authors I pretty much love all the books they write; however, they have written a few books that just didn't work for me.

I agree. You know what makes me go "huh" are the 3 star review. I get the 1 stars and I get the 5 stars but the 3 stars? Do these people already know they'll only kinda like the book. So weird. Lol.

Blacky *Romance Addict* LMAO yeah I know :D I mean that's the weirdest part, I get the fans that they'll give it 5, and the haters one, but how can you know you'll be in the middle????

This whole thing is just utterly ridiculous :(

it's easy to give 4 and 5 stars when you love a book but how u rate it when u don't like it or hate that particular book but WITHOUT reading a single word of the book u give 5 stars !!! are they serious?

message 38: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Salmond Just saw this post. Recently I contacted Goodreads support as I noticed a spammer that opened an account, rating hundreds of books 1 star then stopped using the account. They saw it as spam but also said that "Goodreads policy actually allows users to rate a book as soon as it is listed on the site. While most users use the star-ratings to review a book, some like to use the rating system to indicate interest or excitement in an upcoming title. We view this as a valid use of the site" which to me makes no sense as I feel like we are not getting honest reviews of books.

message 39: by Amy (new) - rated it 2 stars

Amy I was clicking on this book "to-read" and I accidentally clicked on the rating stars. It would let me put it back to no stars. So I gave it 5 stars. I did't want the author to suffer cause of my mistake. I'll adjust my rating as soon as I finish. If I need to that is. My first and hopefully only time that I will do this.

message 40: by Kristen (last edited Mar 05, 2013 08:25PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kristen That makes sense. I think we've all done that before. Lol. Just so you know , you can erase a rating easily. All you have to do is hit "edit" after you've added a book (do what you would do if you were going to write a review). From there it gives you the option to clear the rating.

I hope your rating stays 5 stars because you loved the book. Enjoy.

Monique Lovely review Kristen:D

Kristen Thank you, Monique. <3

Kristen Hahaha! As you know, the YA/NA genre and I don't always get along and I really disliked the second book in this series, but this one worked for me. Oh yeah, Kellan's screaming GR fangirls are going crazy over him right now, that's for sure. LOL

Stacia (the 2010 club) I was sort of dragging my feet on continuing with this but since you had reservations and ended up liking it, I will have to give it a shot.

Blacky *Romance Addict* Great review Kristen :)

I really disliked the second book but this one was well done. The plot didn't feel manipulated and I felt the author did a good job of showing the pitfalls of the rock industry. I also like that the author featured other characters in this book instead of just focusing on Kellan and Keira. I think that's what made the book so good for me. It wasn't just about them. It's was a little drawn-out though. <3

Karla LMAO!! I might be eating some of that pie along with you sweet girl. I had no intention of reading this after being disappointed Effortless. I couldn't imagine that Kellan and Kiera had any story left to be told. However, after reading your review, now my curiosity has been piqued and at some point I will crack and read this one too.

Anne OK Fab review, Kristen! I'm in the middle of "Reckless" and loving it. This whole series has been a favorite of mine in what has become a genre obsession with me this past year.

I really think you'll be impressed with this one, Karla. We both felt the same way about Effortless and its redundancy but you won't find that in this story. I was a full believer in their relationship and in their situation. It just made sense. This is the only book sequel that really worked for me and I felt was actually better than the first book.
