Please don't kill me. I was really enjoying the story until they arrived in Scotland. I love sassy heroines, some scenes were hilarious and they had great chemistry. But for every funny comment there were like two sexist ones, and I can't stand those. I know it's normal because it's a historical romance, but I don't like it. Also, the couple was obviously in love, and the drama was starting to be too much for me (I'm sorry, I like light romances), so I decided to stop reading, imagine a HEA and be done with it.
I'm angry at myself for not liking it, but this is the second Julie Garwood's book I've read and I didn't enjoy any of them. I think it's time to give up, acknowledge she is not for me and stop bullying her books. Now, I need to reread my queen Lisa Kleypas to remind myself I love this genre 😭.

LOOOOOOOOL yeah I see your point. 😂😂😂 This one was a favorite of mine but I'm sorry you didn't enjoy this one, Lau! I feel like all of JG's heroes are kind of like this, ahahahahaha! Hope LK cleanses your palate!! 💖💖💖
You committed hr sacrilege! Lol. I'm sorry you didn't like her. Different strokes for different folks. Hope you like your next book.
@Ren Thanks for the info! If JG's heroes are all like this then I'm sure it's not for me 😂😅 I feel bad about bullying all your favs lately ⛄⛄
Thank you so much!!💕 Lisa Kleypas can fix everything!! 😍✨

OMG thank god I wasn't the only one who didn't love this one--the hype was crazy from all my GR friends!!
lol it's funny cuz this is the second author (after Penelope Douglas) that we weren't liking in regards to everyone else
Man the sexist comments and how they kept calling her "daft" was getting on my last nerve🙄 but the humour saved this book for me😂
@Audrey LOL You at least didn't DNF it! 💀
You're right!! It's crazy that we don't like JG AND Penelope Douglas when almost everyone loves them! I feel better now 💕😂

@Mareeva I FEEL YOU!!💕 I'm glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed by that. You're right, the humour was really good!! But at some point not even the great humour could save the book for me😭
sokay hun, totally understandable 😂 i struggled to finish it too at first when i start to realize that there’s little to no plot in here lol
Her writing style and her books aren’t for everyone, so it’s okay that you didn’t like her books! Personally, I really like it. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it tho, hope that LK books can fix everything for you!! xx
Ahhh I DNFed The Secret by JG for almost the exact same reasons 🤭 I couldn't stand Iain even if my life depended on it. I'm now way more hesitant to try The Bride 😭🤣 Ugh, but LK can do no wrong ❤️
@B I'm glad you did finish it and enjoy it!! Yeah, I don't like when the plot is not based on the couple, like there was so much drama surrounding them. But my main problem were the sexist comments. Thank you so much!! 💕
@Em I truly can see why you love her, though. She truly was hilarious, but it wasn't enough for me to continue reading. Thank you so much for your words, Em!!💕😘 I know she's one of your favs, and I'm really sorry she didn't work for me. YES! Rereading LK can fix everything!! 🤩✨
@Dania YES!! Lisa Kleypas is, hands down, my favourite HR author!! She has so many great books!!🤩 Oh, I'm sorry you didn't like JG either, I guess I wasn't so alone as I thought I was! Sometimes the style just doesn't work. I think The Secret was the one I tried, but I don't really remember tbh. I only remember that I dnf it because it wasn't my cup of tea. 😅

lolll I only dnf books when I'm way too bored to continue. I try to stick it out for as long as possible. Haha same, it made me feel better too ;)

Oh man, 70% is pretty far to get into a book before dnf’ing it! Sorry it did t work out but hopefully your next will be better 😄💕
I read this one years ago!!! Julie Garwood wrote these when I was much younger, so I am not at all surprised that you found this one hard to take. She made me laugh, though. There were certainly worse authors out there at the time. I absolutely could not stand Rosemary Rogers: she had a theme about women enjoying being raped. That got me so, so angry and I couldn't believe they carried her books at our local library. But, on the other hand, I do strongly believe in freedom of speech. I suppose now they just call it BDSM. Every generation of authors seems to come up with some reason why physical violence during sex is acceptable. I just don't get it, but whatever.....
@Susan Yeah, she really is hilarious, I just can't stand sexism. OMG!!! I HATE rape scenes. I'm not so anti-BDSM though. I've read one BDSM book (the only BDSM book I've ever liked) where I think the author explained BDSM really well. I do think some people enjoy having sex more in the limit, but the thing it's that it has to be something they want to do. Rape is not consensual and it shouldn't be romanticising. But it was literally one book that it was not sexist and I think dealed great with BDSM where everything was safe and both parts wanted what they were doing. I've stopped trying BDSM books because most of them are like 50 Shades and they only make me want to cry...
@Mina Thank you so much, Mina! 💜 I suppose you can't love all the books you try, but it's still frustrating when it happens.😕
Totally agree with your review! I also did not enjoy The Bride and stopped at ~65%...? I was so determined to give it a fair shot but could not bring myself to finish it after the killer was revealed. Thanks for making me feel like I’m not the only one!
