IM IN PAIN KTHANKS BYE
Update, literally less than an hour later: hi so this book was everything I ever could have wanted from it and I'm so blown away. the sheer amount of FEELINGS I'm having over Roma and Juliette—and over Benedikt and Marshall and Kathleen and Rosalind for that matter—are out of this world. I'm just . . . in awe
I buddy read this with my amazing friend Dezzy (which was so fun!!), and I think this message about accurately sums up my feelings toward the book:
so yeah basically if you need me I'll be losing my mind and sobbing
but also!! I have actual vaguely more coherent thoughts now!!
first of all the CHARACTERS y'all. the characters are god tier. I genuinely cannot get over how fucking amazing the characterization in this book is, I'm just in awe. Both Roma and Juliette—and in fact, the majority of the characters—are so well fleshed out and it's incredible
also the romantic tension? literally some of the best I've ever read. lovers to enemies to lovers is just a god tier dynamic, and this book pulls it off SO well. the amount of times I went absolute feral over Roma and Juliette was . . . too many to count. extreme. much screaming.
I also just?? am in awe of Chloe Gong's writing skills?? like DAMN. there were so many paragraphs that full on took my breath away and I'm just . . . wow. semi-relatedly, this book was fucking terrifying. like I've only really read a few books that scared me as bad as this one, and like that's bad for my sleep but holy hell Chloe Gong pulled this off so so well and im just hfgddggdf
my oooonly little issue with the book was that (view spoiler) but like you know what it didn't affect my reading experience it just made me laugh so . . . not a big complaint lmao
I also just wanna say the plot? god tier. everything about this book was god tier, actually. but like the plot was so impressive, there were so many threads that I could never remember them all, but not so many that I lost track of them when they were relevant and it was so well done.
anyways hi I loved this book so fucking much and I'd like to formally announce my love for Roma and Juliette that is all
