It's been some years since I read this. Mary Doria Russell is one of my favorite writers, and I've read everything she's done more than once. I hope you're enjoying it.

The first of her novels I read many years ago was A Thread of Grace, recommended by the mother of a young friend. It appealed to me probably in part because of my Italian heritage, and the story of the WW II Italian resistance and rescue of German refugees is factual though not as well-known as that of that of the French. Her novels are full of difficult ethical and moral dilemmas which are intriguing, thought-provoking, and creatively addressed, especially in The Sparrow and its sequel, Children of God.
