Yesterday I was having a coffee with a friend. I told him how the recent lynchings in India, the violence against authors and books, and the ghettoisation of Muslims closely parallel 1930's Nazi Germany.
He dismissed my concerns with an airy statement: "It can't happen here."

If history has taught us anything is that the moment one relaxes and starts to take for granted certain progresses, that's when those who wish to take them away will be sharpening their knives.

It's the "boiled frog" syndrome. If they take away the liberties slowly, one by one, no one will realise until it's too late to do anything.
