Ball & Chain (Cut & Run, #8)

I didn't read any reviews prior to starting this one. I sort of skimmed and saw that the reviews were mixed ... I can see how an original Cut & Run diehard fan would be a bit disappointed with this one. It was very different from the previous book.
While I was reading it one word came to mind ... "slapstick"! Not sure why, but it reminded me of those old Laurel and Hardy films (which I hated) or those old Miss Marple/Hercule Poirot films. It even reminded me of some Scooby Doo episodes (which I loved) ...
The story wasn't so much about Ty and Zane but about Ty, Zane, Nick, Kelly and a host of other characters ...
We had bodies appearing, no way to contact the mainland, stranded on an island in the Western Isles of Scotland.
But it worked for me. The suspense bit was a bit silly and convoluted and I sort of skimmed over it. At the end of the day I got to hang out with Ty and Zane - maybe not as much one on one time as usual but good enough for me.

Ty smacked him on the side of the head. “Don’t use bad words.”
“He seemed unburdened now, more willing to simply grab onto life and go for a ride.”

Ty tried hard not to roll his eyes. Behind him, Kelly answered wryly, “Snake Eaters.”
Both security men chuckled. “Best watch out, Sidewinders. Don’t want to get eaten.”
Nick barked a laugh. “I appreciate the offer, Hoss, but I got someone taking care of me already.”
Hardin squared his shoulders, his face growing ruddy.
“Don’t worry, you’ll find that someone special,” Kelly assured him, his voice sincere.”

Fantastic review Mo! I am all over those photos!!! Loving Noah Mills as Zane... he's perfect. And that beach... was exactly as I pictured it in my head! Completely agree about the slapstick, but somehow it still worked for me too. I hope you like book 9.
