I really enjoyed the light-hearted feel and cutesy dialogue, but it just never ends. It gets more ridiculous as it goes on and takes away from any of the moments that have real substance. I loved those moments too and was literally just trying to find them near the end. It’s a good plot, fun characters, and just had so much potential that it actually stresses me out with how dumb the dialogue made it feel at times....more
I was extremely excited for this book. I adore the series, love all of the cuddly monsters, and just A monster/human romance set in the monster world!
I was extremely excited for this book. I adore the series, love all of the cuddly monsters, and just get giddy reading about all of the monster lore and history.
I almost DNF’d this book multiple times.
I was so bored and disappointed almost the entire first third of this book. I can’t even quite explain what it was that bothered me because it wasn’t totally unnecessary. We needed some context, we needed some background, and we needed the relationship buildup. It was just off and not engaging for me though. I am so thankful I powered through though because the payoff was spectacular.
What started off as boring moved to cheesy teenage romance (with emphasis on teenage for all aspects including the writing) and then somehow powered through to some fully adult themes and more coherent and sophisticated writing. I could even forgive the repetitiveness that this author loves and just focus on the feelings that we’re being constantly evoked.
The last third of this story was everything I wanted and more. It hurt and it healed me in all the best ways. Some stories are boring with their predictability, but it was exactly what I wanted here. I needed it actually.
Seeing the monster world and learning about the voids from that angle was so cool. It was fascinating to see how something so devastating to one people could feel so removed for others. I loved how so much was set up for future books and I cannot wait to read the next ones. I was like 5 more at least. I might even be tempted to read this author’s other series that I gave up on because I loved this one so much.

I love Lilac and I love Seraph, but the switch from friendship to romance felt so sudden and uncomfortable for me I have mixed feelings on this book.
I love Lilac and I love Seraph, but the switch from friendship to romance felt so sudden and uncomfortable for me that it ruined some of their early romantic scenes. I got into their relationship once Seraph’s comprehension levels were clarified, but the buildup just wasn’t it for me.
What I did love was how almost every past character made a cameo. I am so in love with everyone and it just made me ridiculously happy. Rig and Gloam are my babies. It makes me super hopeful I will love these two MCs in future books and I’m definitely going to read them because I need to see everyone go to the monster world!...more

This book was darker and hotter than I expected it to be…in all the right ways. The two MCs were so well-written, developed, and unique characters. Moth was nothing like I thought he would be and his story is heartbreaking. I loved him so much.
Same qualms that I typically have with the writer that keep it from being 5 stars. Repetitive phrases. Writing style changes slightly at times. Rushed and simplistic solutions. Nothing major or that ruins the fun. Overall an excellent book and it gives me so much hope for this series and the fae one....more

Aury and Gage are smitten from the beginning and it gave me all the warm and fuzzy feelings. The hurt/comfort vibes were on point. I loved how vulnerable and sweet both characters were, but then could be fierce when it came to protecting each other. Aury was necessary for helping Gage break out of his self-sacrificing ways and it was glorious to witness him stand up for himself and his mate. I’m just going to pretend Aury’s way of protecting Gage didn’t quite go down the way it did because…yikes.
This author does side characters so well. I want a book for everyone! I know Rig’s book will be so good, but I am not looking forward to seeing Mary again. And please please make Cat’s book after his! I need to know more. And then Moth needs a book too. This series can seriously just go on forever. ...more

I love the world this author created! It’s so fascinating and it was awesome to see more of it. That said, this just wasn’t as entertaining as the first book. I liked Edin, but he was just too bland and happy-go-lucky to be very interesting. He and Hunter just didn’t have any chemistry so their scenes weren’t that interesting to me. It also made the sex fall flat.
The main plot of rescuing Hunter’s friend seemed to drag, but it was worth it to get to the reason for it all. Sadly, that was all too short for me and I would have loved more or a bigger payoff (I think that might be saved for a future book). There was lingering tension after the big event, but nothing ever came of it and I was actually a bit disappointed. At least Danny and Wyn’s presence was great! I love them.
I’m still giving this book 3 stars because of how much I love reading about the monsters, military, raiders, and just how fucked up everyone can be no matter their species. I’m extremely interested in reading about the Rycke and moving onto the next book immediately....more

This book was unexpectedly good. It had me hooked from the first page and just never let up. Right when I thought it might get boring the author hits you with some action and everything is right again.
I’m incredibly impressed with how the author created an ancient being and kept up the feeling of his character throughout. Often, those kinds of characters end up feeling too human or changing partway through and it ruins the vibe of the book. Wyn was perfect throughout and I absolutely loved him. I was left wanting to know more and that’s a good thing for me.
Seriously unique story and I’m excited to read more from this author. Also, she wrote an updated author’s note where she states she read reviews and made changes based on them. She listened to her readers? I love it. It was such an endearing note. I’m a huge fan!...more

I loved the first book, I disliked the second book, and this book has me torn. I honestly can’t tell my true feelings because I went in with the lowest of expectations. I wasn’t as disappointed as I was with the second book, but was that because I didn’t expect to be wowed? I certainly wasn’t impressed and thrilled like I was with the first book.
I do have to say that this book was entertaining and brought out some emotions, at times. The beginning made me sad and angry and that’s always something that impresses me. I love when I feel invested enough to care what happens. The epilogue was not enough though. I finally got what I wanted (something from book one!), but it was such a disappointment. From an author who masters words like this one, I should have cried my eyes out. That’s where I truly should have been made to feel.
There was more action in this book. I liked the world-building and the tribes. The intrigue was great and all the characters introduced were fun. The sex scenes were not compelling. I keep comparing everything to the first book and can’t help it here either because book one was just so hot. Maybe I’m just not into these two as a couple. Henri is so bland vanilla seems exotic. Vincent is almost a caricature of Orlando at this point and such a missed opportunity for character growth. He’s the exact same. How?! He went through some intense trauma and is the exact same? Even the plotting in this book is semi-recycled.
I guess I wouldn’t be this disappointed or care this much if I hadn’t loved the first book. I did finish this and I was entertained for most of it. ...more

I adored the first book. It was such a unique and beautiful story with mesmerizing language. I couldn’t wait to read this one and even went into without high expectations because I was warned it wasn’t as good. I was still disappointed.
Let me start by saying some good things though. The author still has a way with words and I highlighted so many passages in the first half of the book. There were some absolutely lovely scenes. It was fun to watch Vincent grow up and, like with Orlando, those were some of my favorite moments. I liked the introduction of more Lena and Lucian. They were fun and interesting. The plot was somewhat compelling and I did want to know what happened...mostly because I kept hoping for more.
Sadly, that’s about all I liked. Things that I loved in the first book just could not be replicated. Vincent and Henri felt like shadows of their characters from the first book. Their personalities and even their language choices (which were previously so well done) just fell flat. I couldn’t believe the same person was writing them.
I understand needing tension between Vincent and Henri, but Henri’s reluctance was just too much. This is his fucking soulmate! Where was my sexual tension? How could he stay away? Why was there no sex until basically the end of the book?! Seriously, after the first book being a veritable wealth of hot, intense, and emotional sex I was absolutely astonished by how little was shown here. It wasn’t just withheld from us either, it was not well-written. Nothing about it was hot. I believe I even grimaced while reading it because of...blood.
There was just so much fucking blood. It was overdone. I liked the use blood in the first book. It was very much like a sexy vampire vibes and added to the mystique of the book. This time around, it was such a turn-off. I really think that Vincent’s reliance and obsession with blood could have been handled better. In retrospect, I’m not surprised because the overall weight and sense of being an epic love story went completely downhill after the end of book one.
I get the sense that the author wanted to steer away from the romance aspect and add more action. Except there wasn’t much action and it was the romance that was so compelling to begin with. I need to stop being told how devoted and in love our MCs were and be show the depth of their passion and devotion. I want to believe this book just suffered from being the middle/filler book of a forced trilogy, but I’m not sure I have it in me to be disappointed again.
Gosh I’m sad. I did have hope up until about 3/4 of the way through, I read it all quickly, and still liked the writing most of the time so that kept my rating up....more
