Because this is a delightful combination of innocent lady very much in love with her husband and a sought-after hitman whose dark libido is pushing into the surface.
What's a good girl to do when her husband doesn't tell her the truth? She sneaks around in search of secrets and also tries to tempt her man with scant clothing!
I love this kind of trope. The double life provides misunderstandings for the characters to doubt and pout, but it's really harmless and only enhances their need for love and reassurance. I enjoyed how the cat came to appear in this novella, the exciting and lethal way in which Logan's job is found out, and all the tender yet scorching-hot marriage life. It is all very sweet and loving with that touch of male obsession that makes us swoon.

The last girl in the group, Daphne, is a smart, resourceful heroine who uncovers filth about bad men on her blog, but by doing so she provokes a homicidal vengeance to fall on the lodge of four secretive men. And her own hero is a broody man who seems to dislike her. Fortunately, what he's really harbouring is a massive... interest for her, something that could put him in danger because he is a big target himself.
Loved this last story a lot. It's thrilling and smutty and sweet and bold. Daphne lets her inner brat come out in the presence of this commanding man who saves her, obsesses over her and protects her while letting her do her calling. I really liked that Tiernan had a very colourful past, the naughty games they play, that she is afraid of something and he wants to keep her safe but never trapped. Barrow and Bells had an exciting little story of their own. He is a handsome man who can kill as well as he can take tender care of his woman. Bells is tough, but she secretly craves a good man who can show her how much he appreciates all she can offer.
I liked the dynamics that transpired between them. He was trying to rein himself in because she was injured, while she thought that maybe he wasn't all that smitten with her. Luckily, Barrow proves how into her he is by showering her with thoughtful care, hot caresses and even jealous fits about a wild cat that is also quite at home with Bells. That was so funny!
There's also some thrilling action that I've come to expect from this author as her trademark. Very good story, and only one more to go in this series of mountain brides. Give me!...more

In this story, the couple is to die for. Literally.
Layla is a naïve employee at a stuffed animals toy store, where she dreams of selling her own adorable stuffies she designs and makes at home. Prone to accidents, she unknowingly thwarts an assassin's mission to kill her boss. And he wants revenge!
I couldn't laugh more with the whole debacle. He is obsessed with her double life, and the contrast of his assumptions that she is a cunning operative and the actual innocence of the poor girl is extremely funny. I loved sweet Layla and her creative stuffies and her regal cat. The interactions with the assassin, Kent, are both fun and lovely. And they fall in love, of course. Steam and food ensue. Perfection!
What about the hit on her boss? That’s madness with its own plot of death, professional tactics, practical friends, and dreams come true. And the epilogue sparks with so much romance and stuffies. One of my favourites. ...more

He is a dangerous man, but totally besotted with his adorable little neighbour. I had so much fun with her stalking the big bad boy. She might be naïve, innocent, persistent and over the top, yet he indulges her spying on him while courting her like a gentleman.
I absolutely loved this short story because it has a very sweet couple falling in love while she is stalking him and he is hiding his assassin business.
After a funny and cute courtship, they engage in sweaty and breathless passion. Only then does his business explode in a well-coreographed, Bond-style action scene that is phenomenal and full of adrenaline and some well-warranted disbelief from a former shy girl, now turned fully-fledged woman in love. The plot was hard and unforgiving. The relationship between Silas and Fawn seemed doomed. Yay. Even the characters were interesting as he has a damaging past and she understands mafia life from inside. I wanted to know more about them when I reached the end.
From the first chapter with a bloody introduction to Sila's job as an assassin to the first encounters with Fawn and their harsh, hot, heart-pounding chemistry, this story had me enthralled.
It's dark, it's violent, it's as sexy as sin, and every scene was full of injustice, horrid mobsters, dangerous secrets as sharp as a knife and carnal excitement that will heat your body no matter where you are or who you are.
Expect to have crazy fun with a criminal syndicate steeped in debauchery and carnage, and find yourself deep in a world of vendettas, murder and the steamiest relationship ever between a bold, helpless and brave woman and her perfectly mind-blowing hitman.
I've read several novels by this author and always enjoyed them, eagerly waiting for the next release. This one, wow. It's really intense. A blood-curdling nemesis, a dark hero, a relentless heroine. More desperate sensuality that I could dream of, a strong narrative that made me crave the outcome as much as the protagonists. Any drawbacks? Let me think... too much oral gratification for the male character? ;o) I'll let you decide.

Honestly, Intense from the first page, intriguing till the last one. Not only will it leave you breathless, but you'll read on just to keep breathing.
Honestly, I give this book FIVE HUGE stars and a piece of my heart. Ever since I read this author's Bad Boys series, I fell in love with her style. I swear her stories get better with each new one she writes.
The premise of Strong Enough thrilled me with its gripping combination of suspense and hot, forbidden romance. With a powerful yet subtle narrative, the scenes evoke pretty feelings, deep emotions, and throbbing desires. Both dialogues and inner thoughts make you heady with the sheer quality of their intimacy.
My mind was riddled with questions that kept nagging me and making me squirm. What is Jasper hiding? What is going to happen? Why is he doing that to Muse?
The attraction between them is an inevitability, strong as a sea undercurrent. There are some dialogues that just made my belly tremble. There is a certain scene, playful and sensual, where I had to stop reading until my crazy heartbeat placated a bit. And what comes after that is just pure light colliding with darkness and making fire in your soul.
From the beginning, Jasper King is a treasure chest of mystery that I craved to unlock. Usually, it's just the male character who comes with a mystery, but in this case it's also the female character, Muse. Both mysteries interlock in the most exhilarating way. Jasper harbours a pain that might be too dark for her. The kind of dark that claws its way into your heart and makes it bleed.
The plot is surprising and rich as it goes from enigmatic search to painful romance and twists of lust, betrayal, traumas, covert operations, and dreams shattered in all kinds of merciless, poetic ways. There was so much heart-break and hopelessness. I absolutely loved the double POV and, for a while, I despaired when one character was all alone. Oh, but the ending was so worth the wait! I'm almost drunk with anticipation for the next couple in this series that will move the overall plot along another stretch.
The incendiary narrative brings out the most of this hard-edged, intensely romantic story that lays the first step in a series that will make your heart throb until the very last page.

Written in a fluid pace and an addFull of steam and explosive secrets, Devlin Unleashed is a tale of obsession fueled by lust, darkness and betrayal. Written in a fluid pace and an addictively easy style, this story quickly became highly entertaining to me.
The only thing I'd have changes is the fact that the horrible secret that binds the main characters is known quite early in the story. The girl is unaware of the ugly truth, but the reader knows it and that blunts the surprise, therefore, the drama is almost non-existent in that regard.
Despite that, I enjoyed reading about Devlin's obsession and his slow descent into insanity. I had a great time getting to know the circumstances of their meeting and falling in lust and in love. Julianna is craving freedom from her past trauma and Devlin wants to own her love without divulging his secrets or opening his heart too much to destruction.
The story is divided into several parts. The first one is devoted to their mysterious connection, to their steamy and emotional relationship, and dark secrets spilled into the open. Then, the second part reveals the details of what happened years ago, how she suffered at a young age, what terrible things he had done and made him into a secret monster. Then the aftermath of their twisted relationship shows how deeply they've fallen for each other, no matter what happened or for how long they've drifted apart.
Yes, it's a crazy romance with a hell of past but this couple is meant to heal and complete each other despite the torturous kind of bond they share. It's a dark romance, hot and addictive, that anyone will enjoy without compulsion.
Barely contained violence, dark emotions, explicit sex scenes and obsessive need, make Devlin Unleashed a perfect novel for the sinfully naughty reader. Fast to read and good to taste. ...more

I was eagerly awaiting to read THE VIGILANTE'S LOVER, by Annie Winters and Tony West, because… how can you say no to an escaped convict who knows his way around silk ropes?
Well, honestly, I was fascinated by the premise of a woman who’s tempted into sending letters to a man in prison. She reads a letter that’s full of weird but enticing references to bondage. Little does she expect that a man will appear in her bedroom in the middle of the night demanding an explanation. She can only squirm, bewildered and dangerously aroused by the promise of adventure.
I really enjoyed myself with so many things about this first part. Not only there’s an innocent heroine in distress who wants to taste freedom for the first time in her life, but also a remarkable context around the hero’s character.
He was a Vigilante, part of a world-wide organization that controls governments, but is now in disgrace. It was pleasantly surprising and gripping the amount of technology and security used and it actually reminded me of a 007 atmosphere. It made it all the more original and enriched the plot with mystery, conspiracies, espionage and betrayal at every turn.
Then, the relationship. Oh, my, call the firefighters. Jax is one sexy James Bond. And Mia is the perfect inexperienced young woman who’s longing for excitement. Of course, he takes her for a Mata Hari and distrusts her all the way till the end, but be ready for plenty of sexy, edgy situations between a commanding, distrustful fugitive and his enduring kidnapped captive. They set about to find out why Jax was framed while he drags her around taking her for a spy. Danger, secret codes and facilities, action, and lots of sensual promise.
I’m so happy I read this story but I’m dying here to read the next action-packed, hopefully hotter second episode!

I couldn't forget the main characters nor the world they lived in from the first novel, Shadows of Asphodel. So I was happy as a kitten with cream when the second book came under my greedy eyes.
Last time, Ardis and Wendel barely survived. Now, they have to do it all over again in the face of vampires, overzealous archmages, deadly technomancy, and they have to travel by zeppelin to a land about to plunge into war against the powerful Russian army. While they fight for their ill-fated romance!
It's good to be back to Quincy's writing. I like her no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point, fast-paced quality. On the other hand, it never lacks all the sensibility needed to portray the distinctive soul of her characters.
The dialogues between Ardis and Wendel are always compelling, as is their relationship. Sometimes dark, always intense, they share witty conversations, dangerous adventures and beautifully hot intimacy.
Necromancer Wendel is plagued by a nightmarish event that keeps him awake at night, while mercenary Ardis fights her fear of losing him. In the mean time, enemies pursue them relentlessly with all the might at their disposal.
Again, I'm keenly impressed by this steampunk and alternate history adventure that's brimming with action, plot twists, amazing characters and boasts a solid, funny and sensitive writing style. Everything that I loved about this rich world is back with a vengeance: the dark magic, the sarcastic and tragic personality of Wendel, courageous and smart Ardis, the war politics, the devious and traitorous assassins, the emotional turmoil. Poor Wendel suffers endlessly here due to his trauma and his family issues.
Obviously, I enjoyed myself immensely for those reasons and for the satisfying chance to know more about my favourite characters, the archmages and the Order of Asphodel. I think there's a lot more to find out however. A third foray, maybe?
Scenes keep coming that pound with fierce action and entertainment and surprises. They never cease to amaze me and I fell in love all over again with Wendel, Ardis, Konstantin, even Natalya, and a quirky pet, who all had to battle betrayal, armies, mythological creatures, pain and fear.
A couple of side points:
- too often, the after effects of a vampire's bite are minimized. Not here. I like the fact that these symptoms are taken seriously and not romanticized
- the poker game played in the zeppelin is both exhilarating and eye-opening. So unexpected!
The author manages a deeply gratifying balance between steampunk adventure and dramatic romance, witty fun and heart-wrenching loss, swashbuckling action and rich European setting. The atmosphere is almost Gothic, clearly old Europe-flavoured, but alive with dark fantasy and never-ending danger. Let's not forget the poignant, steamy love story that seeps into every page of this magnificent and epic quest. If anybody decides to bet on these books, they will be more than pleased.

With all that said, it’s no wonder this is one hell of a ride. Wildy erotic and violent, this story will leave any reader hot, bothered and entertained to the fullest. The author has a no-nonsense writing style, with a lot of passionate Italian moods and swearing, so don’t expect poetic words.
I think it’s original in the sense that our Don is a 45-year-old crime lord in Australia. He’s dirty mouthed, goes to Church on Sunday and kills traitors with his bare hands. Despite being a notorious criminal, he can be somewhat understanding with his newly acquired plaything.
Sierra faces a crazy challenge in her far-from-a-fairy-tale life: in order to pay off her brother’s debt, she throws herself into a pact with a scarred, violent devil. Honestly, their first encounter is quite hot and graphic, but I’d have preferred a bit more of a build-up, more sensuality and anticipation before he becomes besotted with her, and before she just melts for him. Like a kind of aggressive and twisted Prince Charming, he sweeps Sierra off her feet and sets her up in his mansion, taking care of everything in her life. All the steamy scenes are quite mind-blowing.
Then, the horrors of his past and his criminal life start to accumulate and threaten his growing, but grudgingly so, relationship with her. A lot of emotional turmoil takes place in the final phase of the story. Sierra realizes she’s falling for Sebastiano, but he won’t relent to the softer kind of feelings. Not until a big tragedy strikes them.
I enjoyed this part when all hell breaks loose and the familia joins forces to face this threat. Even Lorena, the flirting daughter of the Don, shows her inner strength. She’s a real Mafia Princess. Maybe there’s a story of her own in there!
I must admit that Sebastiano’s idea of revenge caught me unaware. He’s beyond brutal. His methods are so sick you wouldn’t believe what he does to punish his enemies. There are some pretty disturbing scenes in this story. Be warned, be awed! Sebastiano is as scarred inside as his face, rejecting all possibility of love. He won’t love and won’t allow himself to be loved. That’s why Sierra, and the reader, suffers the most. It was quite endearing to see them fight the inevitable.
Despite the down-to-earth, far-from-pretty writing style, which fits the Mafia atmosphere, I liked reading The Don because it was brutal, entertaining, sexy and fun....more

Minute 1: I'm excited to be reading the conclusion of this pasionate and thrilling serial. My favourite Russian assassin is back! I can't wait to see if he's going to succeed in freeing himself from his ordeal. Will he get to have this happily ever after with Everly? I do hope so. They make such a hot couple.
Minute 3: My handsome Roman / Nikolai is full of regret, but mainly murderous desires as he wants to get even with Viktor for taking what he most craves. Ah, how intensely sexy this man can be when he bursts into assassin-mode action. And he means business. Wow, the sheer violence he dispenses to save Everly is heart-pounding.
Minute 6: The truth is out and it stands like a bloody knife between Roman / Nikolai and Everly. I felt for both of them. It's obvious they need each other's comfort but it's denied to them because of the lies and the pain.
Minute 10: What?! You yield too quickly, Everly! Ah, you're so weak. You should have fought harder, made the man sweat it. Anyway... that reconciliation was too hot to deny.
Minute 15: James Bond-style action, deceit, betrayals and smoke curtains move along the run for their lives. It's compelling as hell. The little lady is also fast becoming a kick-ass heroine which suits Roman fine. He's such a lucky fellow after all. Everly's growing attachment to this kind of dark-profile life and the charming presence of cousin Benjamin make for very funny moments.
Minute 25: It's all very entertaining and fun, but it has a quality of almost light-hearted parody that I enjoyed, but took away the dramatic and passionate edge of the two previous installments. Luckily, things get a little twisted again.
Epilogue: Okay, it was cute, fun and good, but I'm more in love with the harder and sexier feeling of the other two episodes. Still, a great adventure in three parts.

AFrom a literary point of view, one of my insta-triggers for wanting to read a story is that sexy Russian killer who's on the redeeming path of love. And my dearest writer Marquita Valentina has just given me my dream come true :o)
Roman is twisted by his guilt over deceiving the woman that fascinates him. By trying to save her, he might as well be sentencing both to death. They travel to Europe on the pretense of visiting Roman's dying grandfather, all the while exposed to treacherous danger from his mentor.
Favourite quotes: "That's what makes you special to me." My heart beats funny. I've never been special to anyone in my entire life. Now that, I envy, the freedom to love and be loved in return.
Once again, I was swept away by dwelling in Roman's head. How I love to be there, book buddies ;o) His mind is riddled with thoughts of his harsh past, his dilemma over lying to and saving Everly, and his tenderness towards her. Not to mention those naughty ideas...
Their lovemaking is sweet and luscious in equal parts. I can't believe how hot it is to be immersed in an assassin's double life. Trying to figure a way out of his deadly predicament while drowning in an erotic, romantic relationship with a lovely lady, that's one hell of a stake. There's a twist I didn't see coming that made it so exciting! And I can even imagine this serial expanding into other stories based on different characters.
In this fast-paced, hot second episode you will find intrigue, dirty hand-to-and combat, an arrogant Russian family, and disturbing games of power. Superb. I highly recommend this serial if you want your romance to have a good dose of high-class, mortal edge.
And that infuriating, explosive, stunning ending is going to kill me. September 17th is too far for me to wait for the conclusion!

Besides, this maRussian assassin plus a weakness for an innocent woman he wants to protect but might have to kill? Well, I did not resist this at all!
Besides, this man runs a bookshop as his fake business. That's so cool! The woman in question is his (only) customer who goes there to buy romance novels and chart-charm him despite his rock-hard demeanor.
From the very beginning, I felt all connected to the character of Roman/Nikolai. His mind is an interesting place to dwell in. As soon as we learn about how he and Everly know each other, action kicks in full throttle. The tension never lets go. There is a dangerous tone in the atmosphere all along.
There are so many things I loved about this first installment:
-Roman's point of view: his thoughts, his reactions, his solemn self-loathing, his craving for Everly's soft touch
-the deadly secrets, tactics, and procedures of a contracted assassin's way of life
-the beautiful, sweet, sexy intimacy the author weaves in her writing
-oh, those tattoos in Roman's hands!
The pull of desire between them is undeniable, and achingly sensual to read about. However, there is an undercurrent of doom that laces every moment of closeness. The more personal it all becomes, the more deadly the danger that Roan poses for unsuspecting Everly. This double situation, the menace and the sweet romance, makes for an exciting reading. I loved how the attraction builds up slowly, but still there is so much heat going on every second. Roman's thoughts are lustful, though his behaviour is almost gentlemanly.

The writing style is vivid, strong, and also beautifully poetic when it has to be. Alas, the tale it tells is neither soft nor pretty. It's the harsh account of an even harsher time in the Walled City. A parallel Florence, in Italy, where magical science collides with ruthless families striving for power. The Medici and the Lorraine Houses strive to rise towers that show off their authority in the only city safe from the plague. Torture and violence run rampant in the streets when their rivalry breaks loose.
While cloak-and-dagger conspiracies take place from both sides, espionage and hatred war against each other. Galileo, Leonardo, Cosimo Medici are historical figures that take central stage in this adventurous, mortally dangerous tour-de-force that's filled with clever dialogue, dark emotions, secretive vendettas, and willful characters.
The young characters drive an important and magical part of the plot. Lorenzo, apprentice to Galileo, desires to rise above his station and prove his intellect. Lucia, raised under the patronage of the Duke of Lorraine, craves freedom from her tower and the ugly shadow of war. Together, they defy what's acceptable. Another very interesting and dashing figure is that of a deathseeker who is more than he seems. Actually, the whole array of characters is wildly colourful and engaging.
Fast-paced and rich in events, one scene after another brings new discoveries. It was very entertaining to know about the half-scientific, half-magical inventions of Leonardo, or the underground politics ruling everyone's acts. Despite the encroaching threat of the plague that surrounds the city in its vice-like grip, there is also a light tone sometimes that adds satirical fun to the reading.
One particular thing rattled me a bit. The characters' obsession with metaphors or their lack of talent for them is amusing and quirky, but it can also be a little nagging when they mistake a metaphor for a simile. Similar, but not the same.
Despite that, all protagonists are fleshed-out and we get to know their aspirations and fears, as those of the city itself. The novel reminded me of The Fallen Blade, by Jon Courtenay Grimwood. It shares its mixture of Renaissance Italy, paranormal elements and a little bit of its darkness. I've enjoyed both very much.
In the last one hundred pages, it all comes together in the most exciting way: all the cunning characters, the mysterious science of the ancients, all the horrors that were brewing inside the city, and outside too, all the insanity and the Renaissance flair.
I was filled with a sense of wonder. Such imagination from the author has been wonderful to read and enjoy. My only but which is not exactly small is that ending. It left me dumbfounded. Really! All seemed to grow and build up to an amazing end when suddenly I couldn't understand what had happened and why and what it meant. Then, the end. Umm, what? Yes, I see what the characters see but it's not rounded and clarified enough to give you that feeling of enlightenment, of awe at the realization of all the pieces fitting perfectly. Especially when you're not sure if there's a second book coming up to wrap it up....more
