Said girl, Mandy is in love with her male BFF, of course, and is devastated when he asks her to a party, only to hook-up with her arch-nemesis. She sees them making out and slips away unseen, her dreams of being his date at the party, dashed. She runs into Caleb, the broody one and, seeing how upset she is, he offers to take her home. On the ride home, they come up with a plan to ‘fake date’ to catch her BFF’s attention and to send the message that he’s not available to his stalker ex. Throw in a ton of 70’s references, flirty banter, and some super hero comparisons, and you’ve got a silly, fun read.

Of course, I have a lot of those but, to make the list, you have to tell a damn good story. Nichole Rose definitely fits that description! Even though she writes shorter stories, I feel like I really get to know and fall in love with her realistically flawed characters. Their quirks, vulnerabilities and soft hearts are the chocolate sauce, the hot possessive heroes are the whipped cream, and the sassy, curvy heroines are the cherries on top. Add the yummy ice cream plots and you’re in for a satisfying treat. She adds humor to her stories, too, which I absolutely adore and I have ended each book with a smile on my face. You can’t ask for better than that!...more

I’ve really enjoyed Meagan Brandy’s books but this one? This one is THE Meagan Brandy book. It takes you through every emotion and spits you out at the end still not quite knowing how it’s ending. Thank God for the very satisfying epilogue because with the words, “the end”, I was like, “Wait! What? I need more“! I don’t want to spoil any more for anyone but I will say, I think this book has THE BEST book boyfriend… ever. Even though he has a rough go through the entire book, he deals with everything with dignity, patience and grace. I loved the family dynamic of the five main characters, too. Life long friends who are more than friends is one of my favorite tropes and these guys had it. They bounced off of each other like they were connected telepathically and shared genuine love. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book! I’m trying to guess which characters will lead but I will be excited to revisit them all....more

It has a unique plot and I fell in love with Layne and Travis. Seeing how they adapted and grew closer as the story progressed, kept me glued to the page. An asteroid hits Germany, destroying all of Europe and causing death and destruction around the world. The air quality is beyond toxic, filled with dust and ash, earthquakes, tsunamis and erupting volcanoes have decimated most of the towns and cities in the USA, and people have died by the thousands. Scrounging for food and safe water has become a full-time job, along with avoiding being killed or captured by huge, out of control gangs. Gas is more precious than gold, and there’s no electricity, water or long-distance communication except what can be delivered in person. 20 year old Layne stays behind to care for her grandma when most of those left in her small town leave. They’ve traveled to a supposedly safe community created at Fort Knox. When her grandma passes away, Layne leaves town to join them. Soon after leaving, she runs into Travis, a man who used to fix her car. When she realizes that he’s not a threat, the two of them decide to travel together. It’s safer to travel in groups than alone, especially if you’re a woman. The story is about Travis and Layne’s journey; the trials they face, how they survive and how they fall in love. An engrossing, heartfelt tale with a very wonderful, happy ending....more

I love this whole series and was so happy that it didn’t end with the first Curvy Girls Club. Each book seems better than the one before it but they’re all so good, it’s hard to tell, for sure. The Curvy Girl Club, or the CGC, is a group of 5 plus-sized high school girls that start out meeting for lunch once a week, then become the best of friends. Each girl is “curvy” but unique so, though they all have that in common, they each bring something different to the story. Each book revolves around one girl but the other four are ever present so we get to know them all. They each have hardships and trials to overcome, not to mention learning to love themselves but they manage with the unending support of their friends. Well-written and realistic with sweet, heart-warming romance, the CGC is a wonderful series for young adults, on up....more

The characters came alive and made me care about them so much! The middle of the book was a little frustrating because I feared the plot was going in a direction I was not going to be happy about. Then, my faith in the author was restored and I got the happy ending I hoped for, and then some. Definitely going on my Keeper shelf!!...more
