The plot was great as well. With every opportunity and scene, we saw Ryan and Indy's relationship growing, the fake dating lines getting blurred, and the friendship blossoming. I felt like it was such a smooth, fast read compared to the first book in the series, which felt a bit dragged on and dramatic in some instances.
But the romance??? Out of this world, one of the best contemporary romances, and the best sports romance I've read in what feels like a long time.
“You deserve the grand gestures, the big moments. I’m not great at making a show. I don’t like the attention, but if that’s what you need to understand how much I want you in my life, I’ll do it.
Ryan's love for Indy felt so deep and sincere and unconditional. Reading about their love actually kind of hurt. I'm not even kidding when I say I almost burst into tears multiple times just reading about Ryan being in love with Indy. I think he's it for me, he's my ultimate book boyfriend if I'm being honest. Just the quiet but powerful way he loved. Ugh he was everything and I'm utterly obsessed.
Asher's voice was decent. The writing felt a bit awkward and unedited in sSolid 2.5 but rounding down to 2.
I was so incredibly underwhelmed with this.
Asher's voice was decent. The writing felt a bit awkward and unedited in some instances, but for the most part, I wasn't too bothered by it.
But, I just did not care for any of the characters. I felt nothing for them and nothing while reading about them. My head was literally empty with no thoughts, and I feel like I've read enough romance books to dictate which are good and which aren't quite there yet. And this one just isn't there. The insta-love was the first thing that knocked down a star right off the bat. But I brushed that aside thinking maybe seeing the growth of their relationship would've made up for that.
But no.
The characters were so two-dimensional and lacked any depth, they were honestly the most boring couple I've read. And the "trauma" that Bree had was actually offensive in a way.
She had nightmares every night and suddenly she sleeps with Archer and all her "flashbacks" and PTSD gets cured??? Never to be seen again in the entire book?? Never to be even mentioned again??? I don't think Archer ever even saw Bree get one of her PTSD episodes.
Nah, that doesn't sit right with me. Why would the author include the trauma plot if they weren't going to effectively develop it? Personally felt like the story and their relationship could've been stronger without it.
It was an okay read - the storyline was interesting but didn't care for the characters and had too many things I disliked for this to be considered 3 stars....more
I had the most difficult time trying to get into this book and the characters. All the scenes and characters felt awkward and unfinished. Scenes jumpeI had the most difficult time trying to get into this book and the characters. All the scenes and characters felt awkward and unfinished. Scenes jumped from one to another without giving readers enough time to really understand or dive into the character's emotions. The writing was a lot of telling instead of showing. The chemistry between them just wasn't there for me. The plot? Basically, the MC's just get together and break up like 5 times, and all 5 times were because of issues created by their miscommunication. And whole lot more misunderstandings because the MC's BARELY ever talked with each other.
I did enjoy Max and his dog and him knitting sweaters for his dog....more
