I genuinely don't understand why in the world Belly keeps running back to Conrad when he barely even seems to give af. The ending was so out of nowhere and don't even get me started on Belly and Taylor. Like my god y'all are the worst "best friends" I have ever seen. Belly is really out here completely hating everything about Taylor, but still calling her up to whine about Conrad.
Grow up Belly, there's people that are dying. ...more

Warner: -1/10(complete psychopath who likes to torture children - yes I'm still not over it - and manipulative crazy dude with anger issues)
Adam: Irrelevant(there's no need for Adam - stop trying to keep the love triangle going, we all know its not going to be you)
Kenji: 10/10(only thing that kept me reading if I'm being honest)

I thought... I did not understand the hype. Writing got pretty annoying - mostly all the metaphors that were used. I actually found the strike-text interesting if I'm being honest, but all those metaphors??? Painful to read. It made the writing feel immature in a faux depth way. Like it was trying too hard to be something it's not. PSA: Not all writing has to be some deep introspective thing.
Also: Warner?? That psychotic stalker is the man everyone is obsessed with?? What murderous quality of his makes him desirable exactly? The one where he let his men beat her? Or where he forced her to harm people and a child just for his curiosity? Or maybe it's how he invalidated her feelings and told her she's just "an instrument of torture?"
Yeah, I've always been a fan of the bully romance but this dude is quite literally just a psychopath, or maybe just a giant coward projecting his insecurities on her. Or maybe both.

This was soo good! I loved every part of this story! It was entertaining from start to finish and the world-building and books were amazing! I've never read anything like it. And how all the grimoire's all had their own personalities and traits?? Loved it. The books came alive in the story and had a soul and even the soulless demon was good and Silas I love you.
A mix of Harry Potter and Matilda?? Yeah that's the best comparison I'll give you.
The plot and world were fairly easy to follow and digest and it all felt very Halloweeny to me. There weren't any faeries or werewolves or vampires- just humans and sorcerers and demons. All the characters were fleshed out and relatable. All scenes felt purposeful for the continuation of the story.
For all y'all romance girlies looking for a cute enemies-to-lovers fantasy book. This won't hit. There was a romance with very minimal banter. ROMANCE IS A SUBPLOT and I would classify more as friends-to-lovers. Oh, also this is YA and has ONE fade-to-black scene.
