Having read a A Heart So Wild took me back into those pre-Goodreads times when I used to devour historical romances by the day and forgot half of it. Having read a fair share of Johanna Lindsey’s books, I am probably re-reading this, but it did satisfy all my cravings for a good western historical romance.
I adore such stories, a gunslinging hero, rugged, all that cowboy looks and ready to kill at the drop of a hat, well, you can call me crazy but I do love them, LOL, the stark surroundings, the traveling thru the wilds where the hero and heroine indulge in their share of heated looks and passion, there’s all this and also a solid story in A Heart So Wild that makes it remarkable.
With the romance that should keep all readers happy, the opening chapter of the book is beyond words painful with rape and murders that can cause distress. Chandos is the quintessential mysterious hero hell bent on seeking revenge against the perpetrators and Courtney Harte is the heroine who may unknowingly derail his plans. It was interesting to see how her timid nature changes to one of confidence and the subtle humor she brings forth under certain circumstances.
The journey becomes the reason for their subdued desire to roar into flames and the moments where Chandos gets possessive protecting her, calling her his “cat-eyes” were quite drool worthy. Johanna Lindsey has always managed to elicit that “ooh” and “aah” from me in most of her stories and this was no different.
This is one book in the western historical romance genre that I wouldn’t mind re-reading any number of times.

Heather Graham additionally has the psychic angle in some of her books which makes it even more exciting. A Lethal Legacy was, however, an OK read for me, YES, of course, there’s the romance and the mystery of the buried treasure and murder but the description of the history of the place was way too much information for me to process.
Douglas Island has always been believed to be cursed so when Finn Douglas and his friend Frank arrive there to consider the construction of a getaway, little did they expect that the deaths would soon follow. Finn calls in his cousin Craig and his partner Kieran to help and soon bodies began to tumble out of the closet or rather caves as more sinister discoveries are made.
The story was interesting but not gripping enough, I didn’t feel that heightened danger that should have marked the caves and its underground caverns. The historical data pertaining to Vikings, Norsemen, Knights Templar, Scots, Ark of Covenant, and whatnot was exhaustive but lacking in the thrill factor. The suspense element was great as I never guessed that particular ending, but in all, I did wish for a more stunning impact.
This is once again my failed audiobook trial that I completed by reverting to the e-book, but I did persist till about 70% this time, so that’s progress indeed.

The romance and the suspense in equal measures keep the adrenaline pumping, however, this did end too soon for my liking. The atmospheric effects with the snowstorm and ice added a layer of thrill in addition to the dangers posed by meth addicts.
The story moves forward thru Gabe and Lorelei and occasionally thru the antagonists which did cause a galloping heart. Teenage Gabe and Lolly never did get along so when Gabe's father requests him to head up the mountain to check on Lolly, he’s none too happy. The time he should use to spend with his son is being wasted to save someone he’s not much keen on but as he arrives and gets trapped by the ice and storm and realizes that the situation at Lolly’s home is not something that can be avoided he takes charge and the rescue mission becomes one of survival not just against the crazy villains but also the weather which was getting worse by the minute. And of course, the villain just refuses to be defeated just like in the old horror movies.
I loved the intense chemistry between the leads and can also understand that the focus of the story was all about escape so the abrupt end does fit in line with the story but I still wanted more details about the characters and an epilogue.
