So I was curious. There are some similarities between “Wool” and “The Thousandth Floor” like the mystery, the multiple characters and the fact that they are my favorite books. Though the drug content in “The Thousandth Floor” was a little shocking. I felt the multi layered characters and the mix between their stories really kept my interest and the mystery of the opening scene kept me reading to find out who falls from the 1000th floor. I can’t wait for book two. Wish it was out now so I could start reading it. ...more

First, don’t read this book without reading the other books first. This book will spoil plots, and romances for both of the preceding series. So hurry up and read the other books so you can read this one!
Ronnie and I love the Infernal Devices series and I felt that Lady Midnight had a similar feel (it is competing for first place against Clockwork Angel). All of Cassandra Clare books have a flare for the intense as far as romance goes, this book doesn’t disappoint. It keeps things interesting and fun. She also does an amazing job in creating the sub-characters and sub-plots. If you love the other books, you’ll love this one.
Lets just say waiting for book 2 will be painful. I can’t wait.

But for now let me just say that this is the book to read before Christmas. It was actually the only one I didn’t care about reading but it is now one of my favorite books ever. It is done in a “Love Actually” way, where a bunch of stories are tied together by a few people you know. So there are 3 separate stories but they make one complete book. I loved how it was tied together and I really want to find an interview or something on how they did it. Did one author write a story and then the next?
The first story, OMG that story is my favorite story. It belongs in my Goodreads “100 star” rating. That isn’t saying everyone will like it but I just couldn’t get enough of it. I wasn’t a huge fan of the second story and but I liked the last story and I loved how it all came together.
All in all, this is the book. Fun, funny, light and just awesome. ...more

I hadn’t the slightest inclination that I would fall in love with this book. For I can only say that I now hold it in the highest esteem and I fear that I may talk like this forever because it is quiet favorable. Do not judge me for I am stuck within the words of this love story and I don’t wish to leave. I enjoyed laughter and suspense. The characters were lively and full. At the beginning, nearly the first half I found I did get lost and confused at times with who was who but that passed. I’m struck by the realization that I’m often overly fond of books with a slow beginning, they quickly become my favorites by the end.
A fun quote: “Mrs. Bennett sat looking and kept winking at Elizabeth and Katherine for a considerable time without making any impression on them. Elizabeth would not observe her and when at last Kitty did, she very innocently said, ‘What is the matter mama? What do you keep winking at me for? What am I to do?’ ‘Nothing child, nothing. I did not wink at you.’” ...more

I'm almost certain my eyes lived in pools of tears through this whole book. If it wasn't sad, it was the happy kind of sad. However, I also cry at commercial's that show compassion... so most likely you won't cry as much as I did. Normally as a reader I shy away from any book that is "sad" but I don't think you should shy away from this book. It was very touching and left a mark that I want to keep with me. I've only heard of a face transplant in passing before and when I read the back of this book, I didn't think about it like that. I thought of it as some other worldly paranormal thing. But it isn't paranormal at all, it's very real. Alyssa Sheinmel does an excellent job of letting the reader experience first hand how to grieve and move forward. The only thing I didn't like about the book but came to understand later is why she pushes her boyfriend away. Though this has romance in it, it is not a romantic book. This book is about learning to love yourself even after a horrible, disfiguring accident....more

This book has an interesting take on magic and witches and the main character Lilly is stubborn and talented. She goes from a world where she is often sick and plagued with allergic reactions, to a world where she is powerful. In this book there are many worlds and in each world there is another version of yourself but when Lily is transported into this new world by her doppelganger Lillian, she finds that there are people she knows and people she doesn't know. It's all very exciting and I suggest you read it to experience the whole journey!

I loved everything about this book (besides the first and last chapters which both had a similar feeling of an outside look at something new starting and didn't really go with the main characters at all). With that said, get into the book a little before giving up on it.
We listened to the audio book for this one, it was long but January LaVoy is very talented. I'm not sure how she did it but she did! Singing, chanting, men, boys, girls, women, accents, every character was extremely unique! If you want to listen to the audio book, I can tell you it will be worth it!

There are stories that will calm you and stories that will set your blood on fire. There are stories like this, though none of them have been heard by me until now. Kvothe tells his own story. It is long and full and never broken.
"If I seem to wander, if I seem to stray, remember that true stories seldom take the straightest way." -The Name of the Wind
And maybe the straightest way isn't the right one. The straightest way may not have connected me as it did. I may not of cried or laughed as much, both of which I did often.
I can't describe this book without saying it was full. Full and heavy and bitter-sweet. It took me by surprise how little wonderful things could feel like the equivalent of parting an ocean. Patrick Rothfuss set the story just right, the horrid childhood of Kvothe nearly breaking me before showing me the light at the end of the tunnel. What was better? It was Kvothe that made that light, his choice to change his luck and take a chance. I've never met a more driven, and kind character than Kvothe but he is more than a character. His life is so full and as a reader you experience so much of it that he can only be considered as real.
The best part about this book: the world building is phenomenal. I have no doubt that this world was thought about so continuously that it became real to Rothfuss because you can not write such a world without knowing every part of it. I felt like nothing was missing. The magical aspects weren't far fetched, they were described and executed in such a way that I found them very believable.
All in all, I have no complaints. I would change nothing.
Quotes that I couldn't help but love:
"I'll fill you with lemon custard and push you out a window." -The Name of the Wind #quote. What a horribly, funny threat...
"...You show her she is beautiful, you make mirrors of your eyes, prayers of your hands against her body. It is hard, very hard but when she truly believes you... Suddenly, the story she tells herself in her own head changes, she transforms. She isn't seen as beautiful, she is beautiful seen." -A quote from Bast

Intertwined was well written. It let the reader (I'm basing this off of me of course ;)) experience laughing, crying, and of course history and love.
Cons: This book takes awhile to get the ball rolling. Not in a bad way but the gratification isn't instant. Pro: The gratification is long lasting. At about 70% the book goes where you've wanted it to go for so long and by Nichole Van waiting for as long as she did (even though at times it was frustrating to wait so long for Emme's memory to return) it proved to be a good thing because I really knew the characters. Everything was happening and I was laughing and having all these happy tears sprout from my eyes... it was crazy. I really enjoyed it.

Of all the books I've read, I rarely have an increasing love as the story continues. Undertow takes the relationship of Nicholas and Tessa from Oceanswept and tests their bonds through what is expected in society and what is as expected in a life at sea. With jealousy, pride, and poor luck, these two find each other again and again in a way that has the reader gripping their kindle forcefully. During this book I (more than once) had to set it down and walk away, begging my husband to read while I "freaked out" from the anticipation tearing at my insides. Some quotes I loved.

Not only was this book well written, it was crisp and fun. Jasmine Warga used some amazing metaphors that really had me looking at simple activities and descriptions differently.
I didn't find the book to be sad in a cry my eyes out way. I did tear up but everything that happened was within reason and it was really well done. It was a beautiful learning experience and seeing it through Aysel's eyes made all her feelings and choices understandable.
One of the most interesting things that I experienced while reading this book was other peoples reactions. I have a habit of telling everyone about the book I'm reading. My co-workers always get a run down in the morning but this book got an interesting response.
"I'm reading about a girl who wants to commit suicide." I'd said. Their bodies moved backwards. Literally away from me. "What?" and "That's just not right." Were their comments. Now this took me by surprise. "Well she is thinking about it and she goes on this site called Smooth Passages to find a suicide buddy and--" "What!" "No it isn't like that," I found myself lost for words, "she isn't going to do it, it says so in the book description." And I literally saw their chests deflate with relief and that surprised me. Suicide is a heavy topic but a book that talks about a touchy subject is most likely not doing it for kicks. It probably has a "moral to the story" or a way to understand people and take a walk in their shoes. Life isn't easy and people aren't perfect, they don't always make the "right" choices. I think this book was extremely well done and it really takes the reader through a process of finding ones self. I kept thinking, would this stop a suicidal person from committing suicide? Maybe. Maybe not. People can perceive this book however they want but I do think that it has a chance to make a difference to a reader who isn't sure and I can assure you that this book is NOT going to make anyone jump off a cliff.
So all I can say is, next time I tell someone I'm reading a book about a girl who wants to commit suicide, I hope they take a step closer. We don't want to push people away when they need us. I'm not going to push a troubled book character away either ;) ...more
