“We had become intertwined, we were part of each other, and with him, I felt at home.”
This book had enemies to lovers to enemies and back to lovers (?) and it ATE!
It's been a while since I have enjoyed a book so much! especially a YA book and to see a book where I could relate to so much and understand the cultural references made me feel really good. I would say the writing was really good. It was fun, well written and so easy to read. I was hooked like I was flying through the pages and it was so good to sit and read and love a book. I was a little hesitant seeing how a pakistani retelling would work but it did not disappoint I was having fun reading it and if that wasnt enough the way she carried the plot and the romance as a sub plot was so enjoyable, they were so heavily intertwined which had me at the edge of my seat AND giggling at the same time lol
Dani, after reading a really shitty dark romance I needed an FMC who could stand up for herself and was somewhat in the morally grey area and she delivered, she was ruthless and a soldier, her past story was so interesting to and read and you would feel what happened to her to be honest. It was done so well, her relationship with her father was so cute and the one vision had me sobbing. Dani really stood out to me, she was driven by revenge and allowed that to cloud her moral believes so it was fun to read that lol. Noor, She was Dani's morality because without her Dania would have been lost, I liked her role as well she alongside Dania escaped prison with the goal of revenge but she didnt let her hatred cloud her judgement or made decisions based around that so she was more of a smarter character. Mazin, Okay look I grew to hate him with how well Emily wrote Dania's hatred for him so I was definitely not fond of him but I needed to know his motives and his character was more mysterious like Dania would be thinking of trapping him under her spell but you'd know that he had something else under his fingers, it was interesting to read but I didnt really like him.
The romance, This was enemies to lovers done right!! I needed this and it quite literally consumed, some scenes had me fanning myself. I loved the before chapters and how they transitioned into the lovers state and even in the present timeline, they fit so well together and I absolutely loved it BUT yk what I loved more? The best friend relationship what dani and noor had honestly!! it was so fun to read a friendship like that and the way they stood up to each other for each others mistake and didnt really let things slide but yeah this book delivered on that for sure.
The plot, was very closely based on revenge and it was well planned out, I liked how it was drawn and how the things were slowly unravelling and the final plot twist had me shooketh I did not expect that at all and yeah I had to sit back and think on what I read lmaoo but yeah I would definitely recommend this book because it was amazing!!
Read it if you like An ember in the ashes, we hunt the flame or the wrath and the dawn. ___ A fantasy Pakistani retelling of the Count of Monte Cristo?? Sign me tf up! (The years I spent there better make this worth it)

“Nina understood, maybe for the first time, that letting people love you and care for you is part of how you love and care for them.”
My first3.75!
“Nina understood, maybe for the first time, that letting people love you and care for you is part of how you love and care for them.”
My first TJR book and its safe to say that I am impressed. This book was so fast paced. I listened to the audiobook and I finished it in the span of 24 hours. It was so easy and engaging, it kept me hooked and I wanted to read more. The way its told is pretty interesting as well. It jumps from past point of view of the mother and the father to the present point of view of the children. I feel like TJR did a good job portraying the story of toxicity and failed marriages along with empty promises and raising yourself. It was somewhat a coming of age story as well.
I was very drawn into the story and I love long casts in books but there were too many unnecessary characters in this book that quite literally proved to be of no use. I also did not feel that well connected to the characters. Like I enjoyed reading about them, I felt for them but I also forgot about them?? I would say June's story was very intriguing and frustrating to read, it was enjoyable but her doormatness knew no bounds. I liked Nina's characters a lot and I loved the final conversation between her and their father. Her siblings were fun to read about as well, I did have mixed feelings about Hud tho. The only sane one would be Kitt tbh. I loved the struggles that Nina went through and her story was stronger than the others.
The way the story progressed and with it switching timelines got a little confusing, especially on audiobooks (I listen on 1.75-2x so it got a little more confusing for me) but I feel like therapy would have helped these people a lot. I think I kind of understood these characters as well set in that timeline. I feel like my review is a little over the place because I am writing this in a hurry. Carrie Soto was another character that I felt conflicted towards, I hated her for the things that she did and her justifications were fucking bullshit but the way she stood up for herself now thats what I wanted.
It's short chapters, short book, very easy to read and can easily pull you out of a slump! it's more of a go with the flow kind of story and I really enjoyed reading this book, so these are 3 good stars and I'll definitely keep and eye out for her next books. I also would recommend this!! ___ This was so enjoyable and I read it literally in 24 hours!! Had a few problems but it's definitely worth a try. __ My first TJR book and I'm so excited!! “There was beauty in the idea of freedom, but it was an illusion. Every human heart was chained by love.”
I would say reading a cc book always is a wild adventure because my first book that I bought by her was Clockwork Anger but my first read by her was city of bones and I was punching myself for not have read it when I was in middle school because I would have enjoyed the fuck out of it but I could not not and I was so put off that I did not wanna bother with The infernal devices but Clockwork Angel kept on looking at me with puppy dog eyes and I felt bad so I picked it up and I enjoyed it so much!! I immediately ordered the next two book and loved them as well?? So I was kind of excited was also realistic when it came to this series and I had just borrowed Lady Midnight from Libby which helped me sm because listening to it while going to uni, coding and coming back helped me so much!!! It was a fantastic read and it had me hooked, It had me itching to grab my headphones, it was so worth it although I did feel like it was a little longer than it was supposed to be, I enjoyed it nonetheless.
“These pictures are my heart. And if my heart was a canvas, every square inch of it would be painted over with you.”
It was so well done! the plot had me so intrigued, I love the mysterious nature of it and the way the twists kept on unravelling was honestly so beautiful!! because at some of them I was shocked and I felt like Fantasy's these days have been so deprived of plots so it was refreshing to see one with plot and one that actually had a purpose and delivered on it!! I would definitely recommend checking this out if this is your jam! and for the world building, It's never fails to amaze me and its also understandable because cc has been working on it since the past 15-20ish years.
“No one is ever the villain of their own story.”
The character absolutely stole the show! I love a good long cast of character and each character getting some depth to their arcs for me to like them and it was certainly the case with Lady Midnight, the characters were so well written and the length of this book definitely complimented this book and honestly I read it so fast because of them!!
Our main character was Emma she is easily Cassie's best fmc ever, I hated clary but liked Tessa and I guess I finally found a fmc who I loved, there were so many scenes revolving around her that made me love her so much like that whipping scene and how considerate she was, the bond that she had with not only Julian but also his siblings, it was like she was a part of their family! I loved her friendship with christina and I loved her banter with literally everyone she met, she was also a badass and knew how to fight! I knew when I read city of heavenly fire that I'll love her. Our male main character was Julian, honestly men named julian, love them!! He was the perfect example of how war can ruin families and how they can break teenagers and how everyone was affected by it. I loved how Julian's number one priority was his siblings and emma and how he came up with a plan to keep them safe and omg I loved him so much.
The side characters, The blackthorn siblings they were soo cute! I loved their interactions with each other. Mark specifically was one of the characters that got his spotlight and I liked his point of view so much, it gave so much depth to his character and ugh I wanted to hug him. Christina I love the short arc she got and I'm interested to see how her story would unravel with perfect Diego. Kieran is for the streets (sorry not sorry) we also got some cutesy cameos.
“You belong where you're loved.”
The romance was the best fucking thing ever. This was forbidden romance done right and I think it was more special because they shared a parabatai bond so they quite literally felt what the other felt, they understood each other so well, they comforted each other so well and they fit together so well. The tension, the payoff and the slow burn was amazing and I ate it up, I honestly cannot believe how much I'm praising this but it was sooo worth it!
Overall, a stunning start and I cant wait to read the next book! ___ I loved the infernal devices hated the mortal instruments ...more
This book made me want to pull my hair out. It was sooooooo bad like honestly it was just 350 pages which is very short and it 1 eye stabbing star
This book made me want to pull my hair out. It was sooooooo bad like honestly it was just 350 pages which is very short and it should've taken me two days max to finish but it took me FIVE DAYS and you know what?? Me and Roxy initially were gonna buddy read it on facetime and we did or at least tried but it was soo bad that it took us two hours to read two chapters (we started yapping and our adhd kicked in) but I actually wanted to cry because when I was thinking of writing this review I was trying to find something good and it took me so long, the funny thing is that me and Roxy were supposed to finish it one day but it was so horrific that she still hasn't LMAOO. This book felt like a prologue becuase honestly nothing much of substance happened and the writing style wasn't that good either, it had me laughing at it because I was absolutely baffled at what I was reading, it honestly torture. The idea of this book was very interesting and it also had one thing that I think is majority of the reason why people are reading this 10 mates one girl and lmao dont be going through this book thinking that cuz that part doesnt happen until the very last chapter. We want to know the answer to our question so we will read the second book but not until we've fully healed.
The pacing was absolutely terrible because long chapters coupled up with slow pacing NEVER works and this book suffered the same fate, I also believe that there are many RH books that did it wayy better than this.
Me and Roxy basically started this book because we wanted to how the relationship worked and we thought that the BR of this would be fun like our BR for den of vipers (we hated it) would be and the only similar thing about our buddy read of this with that was how bad both the books were but while reading that we actually got some enjoyment, this was more torturous. The whole relationship was not handled well, the arcs werent explored well, I couldn't feel anything for anyone and most of the time I ignore if the book is flawed or now IF I enjoy it but I found nothing in this to enjoy so that couldn't be the case here.
I have no idea how Isobel (megamind) survived with one man let alone ten considering how much girls hate men at times. Megamind was the most emotionless, expressionless, dumb, dry fmc that I have ever read, the only time I ever felt anything for her was when she got to know what happened to her mother and everything that she did felt so forced and so unnecessary, I honestly do not know what even happened in this book because I NEEDED SOMETHING but Jane Washington GAVE US NOTHING. I honestly stopped this to open my insta to watch those brain rotting reels because those were 10x more enjoyable and yk its bad when you find brain rot to be more enjoyable but going back to Megamind, I wanted more from her character and I think one thing that made it very hard for us to like this book would be her monologue because there was this quote at the beginning in her first chapter and me and Roxy laughed for 5 minutes straight given how bad it was. She needed to stand up. It's very hard to read a book when their main characters are doormats. Also in the covers shes a dancer but she barely did anything related to that in this book?? we should've gotten smthing considering how awkward the pose on the cover is.
The mates? it was a shame to read about the wasted potential becuase these ten men were so blahhh like where the spark?? where was the chemistry?? where was the tension?? I was so sad :( There was one thing that I wanted to try and it was to name all 10 men, lets see how many I can remember- There was theodore, Killian, I wanna say watson but im not sure. How am I supposed to like or feel something for ten men when I barely remember all of them. I feel like it would've been better if a few of them came in the later books or if we were given some time and I dont know how its gonna work with all 10 with a slow burn because barely any of them got to spend some time with her. It was mostly Theodore and Killian that was with her there was one more but my dory memory can't remember.
The romance was definitely messy!! It could have been dealt with in such a better way but it wass not and I who is a sucker for slow burn think that this should not have been one it made the story very boring and honestly I dont know how i'll feel about the killian conflict but the ten mates being revealed at the very end was so meh. I definitely wasnt a fan of the romance because I only got to know two guys iut of then ten (barely) and out of those ten I can only somewhat recall 3 more and the remaining 10 were completely lost on me. So yeah not the best way to start, I still stand by introducing the 4 or 5 mates in the next books or at least give us a list to remember them.
The plot said bye bye after chapter 1 and the world building had me cringing so bad with terms like sigma and beta and alpha being thrown around. I think this is how I would feel if I went to high school now but yeah no this was very hard to get used to and I did but it was after a very long time and I hated it but I think it should be better during book 2 because I have an idea on what to base my expectations on. The world building wasnt that good tbh.
The only enjoyment that I got from this book was by reading it with Roxy despite her abandoning it midway but the updates and the hating was so fun!! I dont know when or if we'll buddy read this series ever again because we were lowkey traumatized with how bad it was. ___ Im sorry but why does she look like megamind on the cover ...more

"Power is chaos if you don't know how to wield it."
I NEED THE SECOND BOOK LIKE I NEED AIR
This book basically follows Elowen, a runaway princess who was formerly imprisoned and separated from her five dragons. To get her dragons back and reclaim her kingdom she makes a deal with the most feared commander Cayden Veles on the agreement that she would fight with his kingdom, it follows a heist, a battle and lots of angst and tension with banter and found family.
This book was what I have been looking for in a Romantasy so it delivered and I do think that it parallels a lot with game of thrones but obviously got is incomparable and is an epic high fantasy and this was more of a Romantasy. There were some scenes that reminded me of got and while the main character didn't exactly resemble Daenerys Targaryen, I feel like her whole emotional arc follows that and there is honestly a lot of substance in this world which could be used for the following book(s) but as a Romantasy this SLAPPED I enjoyed the writing so much!! I was reading it on my phone so I was a little slow but I think it is relatively fast paced and easy to read, There are some scenes worth remembering and so well written, its more of a character driven novel but it also contributes to the plot and I love the balance that the plot and the romance share. One more thing about this book that people should know is it's building up to something better and more fierce and you will not see the dragons in full action until the last bits but you will get dragon scenes. I was totally fine with this aspect of the book because it felt very drawn out and fleshed out to me, I liked how much everything was explored in this book. It was written well and fit perfectly in the genre that it was described and marketed as.
One thing that I would like to discuss is that this was not as grand as game of thrones so DO NOT set your expectations to that level. This is a ROMANTASY not an EPIC HIGH FANTASY it falls more under romantic traps with action whereas GOT was action, foreshadowing, political intrigue and amazing dialogue.
"The reign of the demon king and the dragon queen."
The characters were the part of the book that I enjoyed the most. We follow two main characters:
Elowen Atarah. I really enjoyed reading about her character and I loved the development that we got to see from her side her point of view at the start read more like one of a princess which transformed into one for a queen as we reached the end and I loved it. She was strong and lethal, a fighter!!l and she had that presence of a queen that was seen in Daenerys + the bonds with the dragon was really similar but some of her internal monologue resembled that and that was pretty much it. Elowen was a character of her own. She had this deep affection for her people and I wanna see how it will play out in the future. The way Olivia presented her character was so strong and I loved how we got her emotional scenes. I loved it!! I feel like I would love her character so much more in the next book because I want to see her as a ruler and I want more of that side of hers and I think book 2 hold a lot of promise for her character.
Cayden Veles the lord commander of the army of Vareveth and our love interest. He was such a possessive, broody but also fun MMC. I loved how he literally killed people who would mean Elowen harm and it was so fun to read. That man literally snapped a guys neck because he was trying to force Elowen and I love him so much for that. His loyalty and his entire persona were the highlight of this book, I loved his sarcasm and his constant flirting was such a nice addition to this book, honestly he made it so much more enjoyable!! He's like how Daemon was with Rhaneyra in s1 but tamer. I wanna see how things unravel with him considering the end.
“Every part of you, every scar, both visible and invisible, are utterly beautiful to me.” “As are yours to me.”
The romance, this is honestly for every romance lover because it delivers so well on that part. I loved how they both were there for each other to support them during their breakdowns, there was so much communication. The banter was amazing, their constant bickering and back and forth was enjoyable as well. I loved the flirting and the cute moments that we got of them and how they both were so possessive of each other and oh my god did the spicy scenes deliver because they were actually so hot and so well written. This is definitely perfect for fans of romance!!
Finnian, Saskia and Ryder were out main characters and I loved them so much and I feel like every book deserves to have good loveable side character who bring banter to the series. Finnian was the best brother Elowen could ask for, I loved his relationship with him and I really liked how every time she felt trapped or anxious she would go to him. Saskia and Ryder and all of them together with our main characters formed such a fun found family and I absolutely loved it!!
"I need you to send a message to the fire priestess. Our crowns and betrothal are drenched in blood, and war will come, but my dragons will be with us."
The plot I liked it!! it was setting up to something grand and we got a smidge of it in the end which was very enjoyable to read and it makes so excited to read the next book. It was more about Elowen getting her dragons back and Vareveth fighting against Imirath and it was very tense but not as much as I wanted it to be. I feel like it would have been better with more twists but the ending truly delivered, I am bouncing off the walls for more content.
Things that I wanted but were missing the world building was missing, I would have wanted more of it and court and political intrigue was definitely minimal, I would have loved this if we got more of that. I also wanted some intense dialogues. These three things could have made it better. I did appreciate the action though.
"There once was a princess born on a crisp winter night with enough fire in her soul to rival the frost that covered the earth. The sky wept as she did, and the stars burned brighter when she opened her eyes for the first time."
Tropes: •Hate to love •Knife to the throat •Banter •Tension •Forced Proximity & Angst •Spice •'Who did this to you' •Found family •Dragons
One line 'The mask has fallen, I see you as you are' reminded me a lot of that scene in hotd where Rhaneyra and Alicent are fighting and Rhaneyra says 'Now they see you as you are'.
Overall, an amazing debut and I would definitely recommend! __ I heard people say that the main character is like Daenereys Targaryen in a romantasy who's bonded to 5 dragons who are locked away ...more

The whole book was giving Castlenova energy and I loved that show +the premise and the cover was so hard to pass on so it was already going in the right direction for me but then I actually started the book and my main problem would be the pacing it was so terribly slow and it dragged so much that I had to skim a bit because if I didnt it would've been a dnf. I would have never been able to move forward. I also appreciated how we got more than one point of view but the author was clearly struggling with managing three point of views at ones. The characters actually had me hooked at the start but as the book progressed they were dulled down and to be honest this was a very forgettable book. Ask me anything about this book in 4 days and I wont be able to tell you anything about it. Lucy's character for me was very sloppy and immature. Mina was just boring. Im giving this two stars because the first half was somewhat enjoyable. I have had Kirsten's trilogy and I darken on my tbr for 5 years now and I was gonna read it this year but after this book I am pushing it down because I was so excited for this and the disappointment was real. ~~ I saw vampires and I saw the cover and said let's gooo!

“For keeps?” I breathed. He kissed my shoulder. “For keeps.”
In terms of writing this was so much better than binding 13 but in terms of story and pacing? Im afraid it was not (imo) I just feel like this could have been 200-300 pages shorter?? because this book followed a repetitive nature, it had no reason being like that except for its page count. See, with book 1 you at least were engrossed in the story because you wanted to know what would happen but I didnt really have that feeling when it came to this book. The same dialogues were being thrown around, Johnny was more about Shannon and his whole athletic part went away until the last parts. Shannon's story dragged as it went on as well, like the start was so good and by start I mean the first 250 pages and last 150-200 pages were really good as well but that middle?? sucked so fucking bad. I am still giving it a higher rating because I enjoyed most of this book especially the start with how things picked up right where they left off in b13 and in the end when shit went down but, for a second book for Shannon and Johnny....they felt pretty dull.
Shannon and Johnnyin terms of them as individual characters, I wanted more development on Shannon's part because tbh all the she did was talk back to her mother and Darren, and in a way I think this does contribute to character development because at least she was doing something but I wanted more. To sum it up she talks back (ok good for her) thinks about Johnny and whenever she's around him it's sex, sex and sex although I would admit how well her emotions were described and how the ptsd was shown through her point of view, I just wanted more of her overcoming it and one thing I specifically wanted was the confrontation with Bella which we did got but it was so diluted like actually so diluted smh atp. Johnny im a little conflicted because there were parts that I enjoyed so much and others were so disappointing, the disappointing one would be hi being consumed by the thoughts of Shannon like Shannon this and Shannon that and I love down bad MMC's but 900 pages is too much. I loved how Johnny treated Shannon's siblings, I loved their scenes so much and I liked how muchh cared for Shannon but I really wanted him to focus on his game as well. It was conflicting but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Them together were cute and I did understand the smut scenes like come on we literally spent a whole 800 paged book with slow burn seeping off it and even here it didnt really happen until 350 pages through but I liked their moments together. They were cute<33
The side characters are who took the spotlight!! Claire, Lizzie, Gibsie, Hughie, Feely, Joey and Aoife, Mama Kavs and Papa Kavs. I love them sm. I actually ship Hughie and Katie and Lizzie with Feely so there better not be a cheating switch tropes or im literally gonna riot. I like Lizzie and I want her story. Gibsie and Claire I cant wait for their book because I love them, ESPECIALLY GIBSIE! I want Joeys books so bad and I know his story will have me sobbing. Also I loved Joeys Mam and Da sm they are actually so precious with everything that they did!!! also that Aoife and Joey vs Bella and Cormac scene!! It healed me.

Everyone has been raving about Ann Liang's YA rom-coms so I had to see what the hype was about and I 2.05!
I WAS VERY GENEROUS WITH THIS RATING
Everyone has been raving about Ann Liang's YA rom-coms so I had to see what the hype was about and I had gotten an arc of her new adult fantasy book on netgalley. So I thought why not really this first and to say I'm disappointed would be an understatement because this book was so lacking in almost every aspect. It could have done so much better but it failed to read that potential it was also very short? My arc was about 280 pages with 15 pages being additional stuff. I did enjoy it and that's why I'm giving it two stars, the writing was the better part and I had enjoyed reading it during the second half where I quite literally flew through it but I could not negate the wasted potential.
It could have been such a beautiful tragic novel, if it was done and this unfortunately was not done right. The fantasy elements were missing from this novel, they were so minute and not well explored. For a romantasy the romance felt missing too. The world building was lackluster and the action was barely there. The political/court intrigued could've been more drawn out more explored but that wasn't the case here either. The book fluctuated a lot sometimes it would be so slow and the other times it would be extremely fast and it was very off putting. The way it was written maybe fun and enjoyable but it lacks so many things that would make it actually good.
I'm not as critical about this series as im about other books because this is a more comfy, 4.19!
“The Villain didn’t miss light. He missed color.”
I'm not as critical about this series as im about other books because this is a more comfy, feel good series and I review this solely based on my enjoyment
I had such a fun time reading this book. It's a book that you can read on a bad day and would make you happy or a book that you can read while you're sad and will make you laugh. It has so much angst, tension and swoon-worthy romance. It is worth it and I think this trilogy is shaping up to be one of my comfort reads. While, I did not enjoy it as much as the first one, the middle book syndrome really played a part in this one because the pacing wasn't as fast and the first and not much happened of substance but the way this story is written and presented is so fun to read which made these issues of less significance for me. I loved how it started with all the action and plotting and humor and as we progressed the action minimized a bit and the plotting drifted away as well but the humor remained lol and I was hoping for a big cliffhanger like we got in book 1 but that was missing so my only urge to read the third one is to see Evie and the Villain get together.
The characters were so fun to read. Evie was strong and stood up more, she made decisions and I liked her. We got to see more of her badass side and she was ready to risk everything for that kiss lmaoo, she was great but The Villain stole the show for me he was such a grumpy, broody, jealous, possessive cutie patootie. I loved him so much and I love his relationship with Lyssa. Him taking the things he did with her so seriously lol and I love how Lyssa tried imitate him. I also loved the scene where villain kicked Blade because he got jealous of Blade hugging Evie lol. Becky and Blade deserve their own book because I want more from their side- tbh screw all of them. We need Kingsley's book!!
The romance was the dumbest, cutest, giggles inducing, feet kicking, blush inducing, smirk forming romance that I have ever read!! it was so fun to read them both pine over each other and think about each other and care for each other. uggh I loved it soooooooo much!!
