I guess the benefit of going into a book with little to no expectations is that there’s plenty of room to be wrong. Plenty of room for the book to be entertaining and give you all the feels that a well-written, tightly-woven, family drama, heart-string kind of a book can give you.
This is that book.

I absolutely loved this book, so much so that I got it on Audible as well so that I could keep reading it to and from work. That’s how much could not put it down!
History tells us the atrocities that happened to Native American and African people during the slave movement, that’s horrific enough, but Colson Whitehead puts a face and a name to the trauma.
The Underground Railroad is a paradox. On one hand, it’s an frightening experience into an ugly history, on the other it is hope, it is heart, coupled with beautiful prose. It’s indelible.
Clearly my first time around with this novel was more my mindset and not the book itself. ...more
