This was the most anticlimactic ending I think I’ve ever read for a romantasy book that is intended to be a duology.
I had no interest in the plot2.5*

I had no interest in the plot — as predictable as it was — or the characters or the chemistry between any of the mc’s.
I wasn’t more interested in the parents love lives than the main characters lmao
The fmc frustrated me quite a lot, I didn’t connect to her at all.
The pacing was rushed to a point I wanted to dnf halfway thru but I kept going to see if it gets better and tbh it didn’t but I’m glad I made it thru for that one scene where she makes her single best decision this entire book and opens the blinds (Iykyk)
The writing style wasn’t to my preference and yet I would’ve overlooked it if the story was better but they both equally fell flat for me.
I love Veronica’s style of writing, there’s always a humorous feel so it’s never too depressing but also addresses the darkeThis was such a fun time.

The fmc, barbi, was so unserious I couldn’t help but laugh every time she said smth. She’s cute as a button in my head. Take her character with a grain of salt bc this is only the first in a series. It’s very obvious she’s going to have a lot of developmental work done for her character. But even still I adored her naivety bc she was so relatable for wanting that book type romance lmao she’s such a diva when it comes to her dogs I love her ...more
I knew mrs archer had me in her clutches the day she foreshadowed HaydenDarcy and I wanted to read the shit outta their book despite knowing how much I knew mrs archer had me in her clutches the day she foreshadowed HaydenDarcy and I wanted to read the shit outta their book despite knowing how much friends to lovers is my least fav tropes. I just had that gut feeling she would do them justice. And I genuinely think she did.
It’s not the classic “oh we’re such close friends but we never even have real easy banter as friends do and the jokes we do make are stilted and awkward” — and I know there are different dynamics when it comes to friends but who has read about a dull friendship and can actually put their hand on their heart and say they have chemistry and real love for each other? If you have then send the recs bc I’d need to see it to believe it. Nevertheless, you don’t get that in here, these two had light conversations and jokes that are actually funny. They get each other in a way that brings a genuine smile to my face. I love love loved it when they privately called each other out on agreeing to something but the other knows they most definitely will not be doing it lmao ...more
I was excited to read this at first and it started strong. Something just missed the mark, unfortunately, because I This was a nice quick-paced read.

Avery got kinda annoying in the middle of the book for some reason. I couldn't get over how she was way too competitive. But I eventually liked her more by the end.
Luca was so cute though. The way he would simp over Avery was hilarious. And the fact that he always found ways to link her with everything was adorable.
The dialogue was sometimes too sweet and cringe but I liked it? It was adorable when he said it okay!
