Naga Brides #2

King Cobra

Rate this book
Daisy. Daisy. Daisy.

From the moment her name is spoken, it is all I can hear. Her frightened tears bring me anger. I vow to wipe them off her face and banish her fear. To make her my queen.

But I have to catch her first.

I have to convince her to trust me.

I have to show her she is safe.

But only with ME.

Because if any other naga male tries to take Daisy away from me, I will kill them.

And if she runs?

She’ll find out there’s no escape.

I’ve paid the price to mate her, and she needs to know a gilded nest is better than freedom in my world.

King Cobra is the second book in a series of Bride Hunting Aliens. With the charm of a snake, and the wiles of a devil, these males will do anything, and I mean anything, for their females.

Great world!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: ☹️😳🥺☺️

The heroine: Daisy - she came to Earth to find lurker technology because it is the only thing that may help humans defeat the alien threat against them in space. Lurkers were a reptilian species that were on Earth hundreds of years ago until they revolted and started killing humans. The humans that didn’t escape in spaceships ended up dying in the devastation that followed and Earth was covered in radiation following the war with the Lurkers. Lurkers are now gone and the radiation isn’t a problem anymore, so those that came with Daisy on the ship are searching for technology.

The Hero: Zaku - He is King Cobra, part human, part cobra, he is the King and largest of the Naga species. He is the one that bartered with the humans that landed on Earth to exchange Lurker tech for two of the human females. Since the Naga females left years ago when they started dying in childbirth. Humans are compatible with the Naga and won’t die like the Naga females.

The Story: Daisy is one of the two females traded for technology by Peter, the leader of the expedition to Earth, though both her and Gemma find out later that Peter was only given spare parts and broken tech, not exactly what they were looking for. She and Gemma run and are chased by the Naga. She is eventually caught by Zaku and taken to his nest.

This book is quite different than the first book, though the characters did crossover in the first book so we got to see a bit of the events of this book in that story. In Viper we saw Gemma in Vruksha’s home which is in a cave system. The bed was made of furs, and though he had some technology, his home was still somewhat primitive.

Zaku lives quite differently. He lives in a mansion on a mountain, one side of his home is all made of shatterproof glass and his immaculate home is kept clean by robots and filled with technology, extravagance and human things like clothes for Daisy and even gems and jewelry. Her experience is quite different than Gemma’s.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. John Masterson and Elizabeth Hart are the narrators and are the same two that did Viper. John Masterson speaks with a bit of a stilted voice which is common for the narration of alien males. He also does a bit of a hiss at times which works well for Zaku. Elizabeth has a clear voice which matched Daisy and she was able to convey Daisy’s angst perfectly.

I have to say the sex is crazy and kind of gross. I don’t want to get into it but to say that there is a lot of ‘seed’. However, the story is good enough and original enough to make up for that. I love the house that Zaku has and I want some of those robots that come out of the walls to cook, clean and fix things.

This is the second book in the Naga brides series and for me, this did have a slight edge over the first one. I liked Zaku and Daisy together. Daisy is a much softer female than Gemma was but she also had so many internal insecurities as well and she definitely turns Zaku’s world upside down with her arrival. I especially liked how focused Zaku was on Daisy she is now his everything and certain road bumps along with his increased heightened awareness do cause him to doubt himself and his ability to be a good mate causing him to act irrationally.

I found this an easy and very steamy read it’s a bit instalove but I did Like how much potential for future story growth is within this world and of course, I was sold instantly with these being half snake men totally my thing.
One criticism I have though is already being aware of Daisy and the crash as it was mentioned in the previous book. knowing what was coming up slightly took away some of my anticipation for the unfolding story it’s a small thing but just thought I’d mention it.

This series is imaginative and I like the unusual male hero’s here and also just how different they are I definitely recommend if you like your males a tad unconventional. Half snake men certainly tick's that box I’d think. Im now intrigued to see where this may eventually go in regards to the humans and the Naga there’s a lot of scope for progression here and I will definitely be reading further story’s set in this world.

The premise here is the same as the one from Viper (Book 1); Humans escaped Earth many centuries ago after the Lurkers started decimating them. Fifteen hundred years later, what remains of humanity sends a reconnaissance team on the planet to search for technology that might help them in their war against the Ketts. But they aren't alone...Snake-humanoid beings lurk in the shadow and they want to steal the human females. A trade between the men and the nagas is settled; the nagas will bring the technology the humans want, and the humans will offer the women of their crew. But this time, we follow Daisy and Zaku.

A king can only have one queen.-Zaku

I don't know why but I really liked Zaku. He acted like the King Cobra that he was, demanding and mighty but also a bit naive and prone to delusion. He was devoted, protective and commanding but also very kind and caring for his Queen. I really liked his growth and even his doubts and fears. It made him appear very likable. With his King mentality, he showed off, puffed his chest, tried to make himself look as desirable as possible when Daisy looked at him and I thought it was cute.

“You are—” she straightens “—really thick-headed.”
I consider her words and decide she’s right. My skull is rather thick. The cartilage of my cowl is heavy.
“I am,” I agree.
-Zaku

As for Daisy, if at first she appeared like a crybaby, shy and timid young woman, she is stronger than she lets on. Even if it took some time for her to realize her own strength. She was kind and selfless and I really liked her backstory. Even if she wasn't the prettiest girl, Zaku made sure to make her feel beautiful and wanted, even especially after what happened...I loved how confident she became.

I will not lose her. I will lie and beg for it. I don’t think I can go another day without her.-Zaku

I loved their relationship, the coaxing, the bargaining...There weren't many intimate scenes but the ones we got were top notch, although very messy. There was a big difference between Zaku and Daisy's body sizes and the issues of being compatible, and being from a difference species, came up a few times. It created some tension, some mild drama and the main issues between them, that they had to work out.

The main plot here was on the same timeline as the one from Viper, where the characters end up meeting at the same point. We are left with the same cliffhanger hinting to the third installment, which will most likely make the main plot progress more from there. This was a reread, listening to the audiobook. The narrators did a great job but once again; on their own, I think they read well, changed their voices depending on the characters but I would've liked them to duet rather than read full chapters on their own. That's just a preference of mine, a missed opportunity to add dynamism in the story.

🎁BONUS art:

There wasn't much progression with the main plot in this one, and it makes me think you could even read it before Viper even if it's the second installment. I do recommend to read them in order though. I liked both couples so far but I think I have a preference for Zaku and Daisy as their relationship seems to have developed into something much deeper than the first couple.

Another great read. The viper already stole my heart (book one) but King Cobra won me over in the end. He thinks the world is his but he has to learn it’s about more than possessions.

Daisy is the second human to be traded for alien tech. When she realises what’s happened she knows she has to run. Can King Cobra win her over or will Daisy be doomed to hide forever.

This series is so good.

I'm quite genuinely confused as to why there are so many good ratings of this book. For me, this was an unbearable read.

Daisy was pretty cool in the beginning but she just began to get extremely pathetic once she began to have feelings for Kranu. In my opinion her character deteriorated. Crying when Kranu left her, acting very irrational, and just generally being extremely idiotic and having no self-respect. It was all I could do to stop cringing from the second-hand embarrassment. Fear is a natural response when on an unfamiliar planet with a snakelike alien wanting to hunt you down to mate you - I get that, cool. But she had no backbone and was a complete pushover.

While Kranu is very protective of Daisy and could be sweet at times his presence was stifling, he treated her like a child (tbf she acted like a child), was a hypocrite, and was generally waving red flags all over the place. He ran away from forming a bond with Daisy after expressing his desire to form one right in the first couple of chapters and came pretty close to forcing himself upon her. Don't worry though folks! Instead of raping her he just masturbated over her all while expressing righteous anger at her prior near rape (like thats any better.) She was unconscious btw and had clearly displayed she was uncomfortable.

He was a very confusing and unlikeable character. And the only reason he wanted Daisy as a mate because of her looks, and because he wanted her to "submit" even after she goes through a traumatic event. He locks her in a cage and his selfishness shows up repeatedly in the books yet is never addressed nor fully resolved.

In the real world, if people behaved like this, its an indicator of a toxic relationship, but I guess because its a romance fiction novel, everything is romantic and given the green light. Not cool.

In conclusion, the characters were both terrible and the relationship was toxic. I finished this novel, but hated myself for it.

Yeah, this was not really at all what I was hoping to get from Zaku and Daisy... Their coupling was disappointing for me on many levels. I'm not going to go into all the ways this sucked for me, just know I saw several turns this story could have taken that would have remedied this for me; but sadly it didn't...

The secondary plot surrounding the mystery of our Naga males and why Humans seem to not know their own history, but the Alien's now inhabitating Earth does, is frustrating and confusing to me. This book gives just more of the same questions you got in book 1 regarding this. Nothing really moves forward in this regard. But it kept me interested enough to keep reading to find out though... Hence the 3 stars..

I'm pretty sure because of the way this one totally turned me off and the fact that I am so not wanting to read Shelby's(that coward) story and a new Naga male, that I won't be returning to this series... I will say this though, if you read a book in this series, read book 1. Between these two, it's the absolute best one IMO.

I liked book 1 better, which had more romance in it.

Book 2 King Cobra most of the book is him trying to get her to trust him. He says he won't have sex with her until she is ready. But he forces her to take a bath in front of him and get naked and he touches her. She is attracted to him of course.

I was also mad the heroine gets very hurt crashing her ship. She was trying to tell her bosses that they are kidnapping women and selling them to the nagas for alien technology. Instead they shoot down her ship and she has third degree burns and loses one eye. She has facial scars.

Hero tells her she is beautiful all the time even after her injuries. But the whole thing could have been avoided if he kept a better eye on her.

Book 3 is is titled Blue Coral and will feature the water snake hero and Shelby, the woman who is faking a pregnancy to avoid being sold to the nagas.

Now we’re getting somewhere. Daisy and Zaku’s relationship was so much better than the one we got in book one. Still some issues with pacing and the overall storytelling (the climax of this book was the exact same as Viper - no real stakes because we knew what was going to happen), and there were times I wanted to shake Daisy. Overall though, an enjoyable read!

Wow, I loved this one much more than the first one. Zaku, the King Cobra, was so sweet and adorable. Daisy was much stronger than I thought she would be. I love fated mates, but fated mates with snakes are amazing.

I loved Zaku's whole nest set up and how he had much more tech and riches for his woman. The last third of the book was more action-packed, and I'm interested in reading the rest of the series.

The sex was super hot, and I loved how they had to overcome the size difference. Let's just say there are copious amounts of fluids and knotting.

4 🌟's!

📝 tropes: fated mates, monster rom (hybrid human/snakes), possessive/jealous hero
🌶 spice: 3.5/5 (there's a lot of erm.... spilling.. cum.... that occurs...)
❌ CW: violence, attempted rape

idk why i had the sudden urge to binge read the rest of the series but i was craving some deranged, fated mates, i-will-kill-for-you type romance right now and alas, this provides it to the T. some parts of the snake/human characteristics/spicy scenes were a little beyond what i could take but i overall enjoyed this one! we love a possessive hero who just wants his human to be in his nest and protected, curled up in the curve of his tail 🥺

3 - 3.5 stars!

This is the second book in the Naga Brides series and features Daisy and Zaku. This starts off right where book 1 starts but follows Daisy instead of Gemma. As soon as Zaku sees Daisy he wants her and Daisy is horrified at the entire situation and runs. Scared, hurt, almost raped and confused about her life in general she eventually ends up in Zaku's arms.

Zaku and Daisy have a lot to overcome to even remotely be together so Zaku sets out to earn her trust and love despite the fact that Daisy is exceedingly against being anywhere near any of these alien snake men. Can Zaku earn Daisy's love and trust? Will Daisy be able to see past her own fear?

I really loved Zaku...he was protective and sweet and never gave Daisy a reason to doubt his affections and attentions. There was something so erotic about Zaku using his tail to always keep her in his embrace...like touching her kept him breathing. He was such an authentic hero and when everything goes to hell near the end, his loyalty and love for Daisy was heart melting.

Daisy annoyed the f*ck out of me. She wasn't necessarily a bad heroine and I liked her with Zaku but she kept making dumb decisions. I am glad she finally pulled her head out of her ass though.

Like the first book in this series, this one had the same unique world building and action. I do think this one lacked some of the romance that the first book had but overall I would say it was a pretty decent read. If you liked the first one in this series, I feel sure you will like this one.

Hoy les traigo una nueva reseña. Se trata de “Rey Cobra” por Naomi Lucas.

¿Lo han leído? ¿Lo conocen?

𝐋𝐨 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐫𝐚́𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞
🔹 Nagas: mitad serpiente, mitad hombre

I'm conflicted on this series - on one hand, I really want to learn more about the history of nagas and what the humans will find on Earth, but on the other, I really don't like the personalities of the FMCs and MCs in the books so far. It's certainly a unique take on alien/monster romance, but I think I like more consent and less overt caveman perving in my couples.

Checking out the critical reviews of the next few books in the series, I don't think I would enjoy the rest of the books and will stop the series here. I would recommend the books to those that enjoy reading about alphahole pervy snake-men, dystopian and post-apocalyptic sci-fi, and selfish FMCs.

Book 1 was better. Gemma and her Viper had a better romance than Zaku and Daisy. Daisy is annoying to the point of where I wanted Zaku to go find someone else. More of the naga biology is explained, but I will wait for book 3 to explain more about the lurkers, the "tech" and how this all fits together before I say this is awful pacing. Also, author...please for the love of God stop using the word niggling. It's used to describe the same sensation, please find another word to use.

This one was not as enchanting as book 1, simply because Zaku wasn’t as endearing to me 🤷🏻‍♀️ Daisy was great - I loved her backstory so much, I feel like we got more here than we did for Gemma.

I also felt like there were more mistakes within the writing as well - at one point the author says Daisy has blue eyes even though she describes them being brown multiple other times. It took me out of the story sometimes!

HOWEVER… I need to find out the mystery behind this continued amazing world building, so off to book 3 I go 🫡

Zaku and Daisy

Another great adventure! I really enjoyed this storyline! Daisy the strong willed human finds herself betrayed by her colleagues. She is now on the run from a King Cobra Zaku.
But this story is my favorite so far because he wins her trust and love. So much happens in this book and it was such a roller coaster of adventure and emotions! Ohh and I loved the ending!

Well, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel when I finished this book but I am intrigued. Skipping the first and reading just the second has left me confused on a lot of things that I hope were explained in book 1. But even not knowing alot of things, I still enjoyed our characters. And we had enough interaction with others, that I think I will go back and read the first and then read the third because I'm very curious on how things progress and end.

For our characters, Zaku and Daisy were cute. Zaku is most precious with his concern and love for Daisy. And Daisy was fun to watch survive and adapt.

Quick (not as quick as normally for me because I've been busy) and fun read.

Great Continuation of Series!

While King Cobra is a continuation of the Naga Bride series I also feel like it could be read as a standalone. The story centers on Daisy and Zaku. Zaku puts the King in King Cobra. I liked that he really leaned into his role as self appointed King and felt a sense of responsibility towards the Naga world as a whole. He was a good match for Daisy, who is a low caste human and Petty Officer in the military. This was sort of a take on the billionaire/waitress theme. The story was fast paced, the characters are engaging and I really don’t have much to complain about in this series. I’ll definitely keep reading on as the books are released.

Book 2 in the Naga Brides series

**Re-read July 2024. Still loved this book, and maybe even more than the first time. I'm bumping up my rating to 4.5 stars!**

Man, I am loving these naga males and their mates! Fun couples, and fun world building. Just an overall pleasant experience, like the first one (although I like this one slightly more). I am already continuing the series. The writing is definitely getting better. The book I can't wait to read is Death Adder... but that's because I have a huge soft spot for scarred heroes. *wistful sigh* I mean this is what happens when your impressionable years are shaped by Beauty and the Beast and Phantom of the Opera. *sly grin*

Zaku and Daisy. I have to say I enjoyed them a little more than the first couple. However, Zaku is pretty "high and mighty" with his whole I am the king act. There were some really cute moments that made me actually laugh out loud (which is rare when I'm reading). Absolutley entertaining and I've already started Blue Coral.

Daisy was a relatable character, with her desire for belonging, realism, and ability to adapt. Zaku was a bit annoying with his self aggrandizement, but he was at least friendly and willing to make some compromises.
It’s odd to me when human MCs use colloquialisms with aliens and then don’t understand why the aliens have no idea what they are trying to say and/or don’t bother to clarify. Especially in this futuristic sci fi, where humans have regular contact with multiple alien species. Daisy didn’t do this too frequently at least.
The writing was disjointed in a few places and the book needs some editing for grammar as well.
