Simone is the author of The God Key. You will also often find her writing online under the pen name the-modern-typewriter.

She graduated from the University of East Anglia with a degree in Literature and Creative Writing, and since then has shamelessly indulged her love for writing about magic and monsters. She adores a great villain and is passionate about creating more LGBTQ fantasy fiction that involves them.

In terms of novels...I have two I'm working on depending on my mood.

Say Yes: Astra is seventeen, desperate for her grand coming of age love story to happen, and 100% asexual. She hasn’t figured that last one out yet though. So, when her friends at a party ask her who she fancies for the hundredth time, and won’t believe her when she tells them that there’s no one, she blurts the name Cade Wright in panic. Cade is one of the most popular guys in school, so she knows that no one will second guess the answer, and there’s no danger of him liking her back. Except, apparently, he does. So, how then can she possibly say anything other than yes?

Moonlight Drowning: When Anya tricked her way into the realm of a charming, deadly fairy king to rescue her sister, Meri, she knew the rules. Do not give them your name. Do not eat their food. Do not be rude. She should have added one more to the list - do not, under any circumstances, go into the moonlight. Think dark adult fantasy romance with fairies!(less)

It's a solid 'I liked it' book - that perhaps suffers by comparison because I read it shortly after Tingle's second horror novel Bury Your Gays which I thought was 5 star incredible. This read more like a debut (which it is, so that's expected.)

Starling House by Alix E. Harrow
"The haunted house is a stock setting in gothic fiction, instantly familiar to readers in and outside the genre. Starling House offers a fresh take, though it takes patience to get there. Readers can expect the usual sense of foreboding to start, comp" Read more of this review »

“Except, Marco underestimated the fact that her parents had always preached loyalty to a cause, if you joined it, no matter what.”
Simone King, Blood Lines

“The world’s a dangerous place; I’d rather be harmed fighting for this than from something meaningless.”
Simone King, Blood Lines

“But there’s a difference between allowing everyone the same basic rights and opportunities then there is to thinking everyone is squarely equal. In a battle, for example, you’d prioritize and value people who could fight, or healers, over plumbers or secretaries. Equality as and of itself doesn’t work, it needs to be more structured than that.” “So, like…equal opportunities for everyone, putting everyone on the same starting point, and then letting them branch of into their specialist fields and what would be best after that? Equal rights…but then judge on the basis of talent, rather than anything else?”
Simone King, Blood Lines

“Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win.”
Stephen King

“When is a monster not a monster? Oh, when you love it.”
Caitlyn Siehl, Literary Sexts: A Collection of Short & Sexy Love Poems

“I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.”
Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets

“When a monster stopped behaving like a monster, did it stop being a monster? Did it become something else?”
Kristin Cashore, Graceling

“He is a monster, I said. Maybe I m a monster to pity him”
Rosamund Hodge, Cruel Beauty
