I know this isn't a very popular answer and some would be offended but I would have to say - no. A lot of people think that anyone can write and I suppose that's true, but that doesn't mean it would be good or that you're meant to write. I used to want to be a doctor or a nurse, but as I got older I realized I was too empathetic and unable to cope with such a job. Writing is exactly the same, you can always learn more about it - but you either "have it" or "you don't". You have to be born to write just as someone would be born to be an accountant or a pilot - everyone is unique and comes with their own skill sets and just because you can't or don't write doesn't make you an inferior person, just like just because I can't perform surgery doesn't make me inferior. One of the most amazing things is seeing people in the right place, recognizing their strengths and their limitations and utilizing their abilities in the right place and in the right way, as God made them to. Some of them will do that by being writers. Others won't, or shouldn't, whatever the case may be. In either event - no one is more important than the other!(less)

Probably fantasy and sci-fi (as well as their various sub-genres).

Though, really - no genre is safe from me!

I think what I love most about sci-fi and fantasy is the escapism - they define adventure for me. I can do anything and be anything in these genres. I can create my own world and simply GO FOR IT, as a writer and as a reader. I have also found these genres rich mine fields for powerful allegories.

It will always be a great disappointment to me that I cannot leap from castle roofs swinging a sword like Prince Valiant - or help Princess Leia escape from the Imperial prison block.

But by writing in these genres, I can satisfy this thirst for adventure; and hopefully - craft stories and messages that will resonate with my readers. (less)

“Neat' was the highest superlative possible from Burndee and it was not a word that he often used...unless he was describing something he had done. 'Neat'--without even 'very' or 'really' attached to it--was extremely high praise from Burndee.”
Allison Tebo, The Reluctant Godfather
