Politea was an exceptionally powerful nymph of Sirenix of great power and one of the nine Nymphs of Magix, powerful guardians of the Dragon's Flame who oversaw and protected the deep slumber of the Great Dragon in the Vortex of Flames on Domino. She presumably hails from Domino[1], and became one of the few fairies who had completed the ancient quest and received the great power of Sirenix. She was close friends with her fellow nymph and superior, Supreme Nymph Daphne, and Omnia, although she later betrayed and left them after an encounter with the three Ancestral Witches due to her ambition of power, and was eventually defeated and seemingly killed by the six Winx fairies, bringing her reign of tyranny and chaos to an end, although her further fates were unknown.
Appearance[]
She has long brown hair with a fringe that falls on her face and a bun at the back of her head. She has green eyes and rose lips.
Civilian[]
She wears a long lime scarf that is used as a sash and a belt. She also wears a red dress with the tips of it looks like it was ripped and a pair of pale green sandals.
Monster Form[]
As a monster, Politea looks like a purple dragon with wing-like flippers instead of arms and a large frill on her neck. She also has two small frills in her cheeks.
Evil Sirenix/Nymph Form[]
In this form, her skin is pale grey. Her hair is pale turquoise and is long with a fringe that falls on her face. She wears a fuchsia crown that looks like a seashell or the frills she had in her monster form and a long pale blue dress resembles a jellyfish with short sleeves that look like the frills she had as a monster over longer sleeves, and the top is a purple scale-like breastplate. Her eyes are dark red and her lips are purple.
Personality[]
Politea seemed to possess a very power-hungry, self-confident, and corrupted personality with little regard for those she hurt, and was also apparently fond of double-crossing which was evident with Daphne, Icy, Darcy, and Stormy. However, despite her appearance, Politea must have also possessed some degree of empathy and compassion as it was one of the traits that was required to complete the Sirenix Quest for all participants in order to gain the power of Sirenix.
According to Daphne, she is cursed by her lust for power and lost herself into total darkness.
Magical Abilities[]
Due to her potent Sirenix powers and a former position as one of the nine legendary Nymphs of Magix, Politea was considered an exceptionally powerful nymph due to her status as one of the most powerful fairies in the Magic Dimension. After she was cursed by the three Ancestral Witches when she refused to help and defend her superior, Daphne, Politea's Sirenix powers were corrupted and she was turned into a ravenous sea beast until she was temporarily stripped of her powers by Darcy and Stormy several years later, which resulted in her being relieved of her cursed form and assuming the form of a shade-like spiritual entity, similar to Daphne's former cursed form. According to Tritannus, her Sirenix power is enormous and powerful enough to activate the Emperor's Throne[2], just like Aisha's. She was also able to easily overpower and defeat the Trix, despite the fact that the three still possessed a small spark of the Dragon's Flame, and Daphne and Politea's own Sirenix powers, as well as a former Emperor Tritannus after he was temporarily released from his imprisonment and banishment in the Oblivion dimension, and was implied to be able to at least face and confront the three Ancestral Witches in a battle with Daphne by her side.
With her powers combined with the power of the Pearl of the Deep, she can easily pollute the oceans of Magix and amplify her powers to make herself more powerful than the Emperor himself who was one of the most powerful magical beings in the Magic Dimension.
Politea may know some basic, first-level spells that all fairies can use, such as telekinesis, transmuting objects, and fixing minor messes. Like all nymphs, she was able to extract oxygen from both air and water, and adapt herself to any aquatic environment without drowning or any form of discomfort. Due to her Sirenix powers, she might also be able to access her Crystal Sirenix form which allowed her to survive and adapt herself to any form of cold and be able to survive in the darkest parts of the ocean.
It was not known if Politea was able to manipulate and withstand the power of the Great Dragon, like the other nymphs, though it was likely that she could.
Uses of Magic[]
- Teleportation: She was able to channel the vital forces of a young ruler to be able to enter the realm of Oblivion and summon various entrapped creatures and magical beings to her current location in a blast or flash or white and purple explosion, which bound the aforementioned ruler's vital force to their current location after entrapping them in a crystal or glass cage which could not be damaged or destroyed without stripping the victim of their life force and essentially killing them. By contrast, the six Winx fairies needed to converge their Sirenix powers to enter the Infinite Ocean from Oblivion. She was also able to teleport in a puff of pink smoke that could even knock someone nearby off their feet.
- Energy Beams: She can shoot turquoise and pink beams of energy, and use it to attack and overpower her opponents, including the Emperor of the Infinite Ocean.
- Toxic Absorption: Similar to Tritannus, she can be empowered by pollution, which she could use to restore her energy by channeling the imbalance of the Infinite Ocean.
- Reverse Spell: She can redirect any offensive force or spell cast by her opponents, effectively turning magic back on itself, as evident when she made Icy freeze herself, Darcy entrap herself with the darkness tentacles she conjured, and Stormy to electrocute herself during the latter's combined but failed effort to defeat her.
- Hypnosis: Politea can hypnotize her targets, and ensnare their wills to do her bidding, like she did with Tritannus and the Trix. The individuals hypnotized by this ability would change their natural eye color to blood-red.
- Hologram Projection: She can project and disperse holographic images of her choosing.
- Mutation Spell: She carries the power to mutate anyone she wishes, as evident when she succeeded in returning Tritannus to his monster form, and turning a number of jellyfishes into ravenous, triton-like mutants, and direct them like a puppet to follow her own will and bidding.
Etymology[]
- In Greek, Politeia (πολιτεία) means "Citizenship".
Trivia[]
- Although Politea made an appearance in "The Shark's Eye", there were only sound effects, not a voice actress.
- Her civilian appearance has a certain resemblance to Bloom in the face and hair, but Politea has brown hair and Bloom has orange hair.
- She is the third person to double-cross the Trix, the first was Darkar, the second was Tritannus and the fourth was Selina.
- Similar to Daphne who was cursed into her spiritual form and her powers turned against her, Politea was a fellow nymph who was cursed and turned into a ravenous sea beast once her powers were fully corrupted when they encountered and defied the three Ancestral Witches in a battle that occurred in the Infinite Ocean at least sixteen years prior to the events of Season 1 of Winx Club.
- Unlike Daphne, who was eventually restored to her true original living physical form via Bloom's Sirenix wish, Politea reappeared in her spiritual-like form following her near-death experience, and became linked to the Emperor's Throne, despite being relieved of her ravenous sea beast form and the permanent termination of the Sirenix Curse by Bloom.
- Her Sirenix attire and abilities prior to her being cursed were never shown, not even in flashbacks.
- It was not known if Politea had ever pleased her destiny and was granted her unknown wish by a Guardian of Sirenix, similar to Daphne and Musa.
- It was not known if she survived her final battle with the Winx as her flame that represented her magical power in the Chamber of the Nymphs in the Domino Royal Palace was still intact, which implied that she survived her ordeal but was likely banished from the group and succeeded by one of the three fledgling nymphs when Egerya retired from the group due to her old age.[3]
- It is not known which realm Politea hailed from before her banishment as all the other known nymphs so far (with the exception of Omnia of the Infinite Ocean), including Daphne, Egerya, Marlene, Janice, and Diane originated from Domino.
