Fossil Fools - Part II is the 76th episode of the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! series, following from the plot-line of the previous episode: Fossil Fools - Part I. In this episode, a tour boat full of Dream Landers is threatened by dinosaur hybrids of themselves while deep in the "Dinosaur Kingdom" theme park. After evading these monsters, the group stumbles back into Doctor Moro's laboratory, where the mad Doctor reveals that he managed to create his ultimate hybrid: the Kirby-saurus. Doctor Moro then rides the Kirby-saurus and surrounds the tour group using the other dinosaurs and prepares to finish them all off, but King Dedede accidentally gives Kirby the Crash Copy Ability, which he uses to destroy all of these hybrids and take Doctor Moro and his lab with them.

This episode is heavily based off of the science fiction film Jurassic Park and the H.G. Wells story The Island of Doctor Moreau. It also marks the finale of Season 3, and the first appearance of the Crash Copy Ability in the anime series.

Plot synopsis[edit]

The Syringe Mosquitoes take their fill of every one of the passengers except for Kirby.

After a brief recap of the events of Fossil Fools - Part I by Tiff, the episode begins where the previous one left off, with a blue Dedede-like tyrannosaur chasing the tour boat in Dinosaur Kingdom. After a lengthy chase down the river, the boat manages to find shelter in a tunnel, allowing everyone to regain their bearings. While stopped, the passengers argue over their situation for a moment, and Tiff and Tuff realize that Doctor Moro was responsible for the dinosaur that chased them down. After King Dedede and Escargoon reveal that Moro got blood samples from them, Tiff surmises that he must have used their DNA to make dinosaur hybrids of them. At that moment, a horde of tiny bugs resembling syringes attacks everyone on the boat and takes blood samples from each of them, though Kirby manages to avoid being bitten. After proceeding out of the tunnel, King Dedede and Escargoon try to ditch the others, but are stopped by another dinosaur hybrid, this one resembling Escargoon. After hopping back into the boat, the Escar-saurus is interrupted when the Dedede tyrannosaur returns, and the two start to fight each-other. Tiff reminds King Dedede and Escargoon to keep the boat moving after they try to cheer on their respective dinosaur hybrids. Seeing the boat get away, the two dinosaurs agree to work together to try and stop them, but without much success, much like their normal counterparts.

The tour group soon gets off the boat and continues running on foot, becoming separated into smaller groups in the process. A short time later, Chief Bookem and Buttercup stumble onto a hybrid of the Chief and an apatosaurus. Meanwhile, Mayor Len and Hana discover a Mayor Len-dinosaur hybrid after it eats one of the remaining sheep. From here, Mabel and Samo discover dinosaur clones of themselves as well. As this is all happening, Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby are trying to find their way back to Doctor Moro's laboratory, but they are stalked by the Dedede tyrannosaur. Just as the monster is about to strike, however, a Tiff-dinosaur hybrid attacks the D-Rex, saving the kids. As Tiff and Tuff comment on it, a pterodactyl resembling Tuff appears to join in the fight. Tiff and Tuff try to piece the situation together, but realize that Kirby has gone missing in the commotion, having been lured away using a watermelon by Captain Waddle Doo and the Waddle Dees.

Doctor Moro gets a personal sample of Kirby's DNA.

As Tiff and Tuff search for Kirby, King Dedede and Escargoon manage to stumble onto the laboratory, narrowly avoiding another attack from the D-Rex. After Doctor Moro finds them, King Dedede threatens him with a bomb, but the Doctor calms him by revealing his laboratory to be a monster factory. After showing them more dino-hybrids being incubated, Doctor Moro expresses his desire to obtain genetic material from Kirby, having failed to get some earlier. At that moment, Kirby is lured to the laboratory and trapped inside a restraining apparatus. From there, Doctor Moro gets a personal sample from Kirby's hand as Tiff and Tuff find the facility. The two are soon menaced by the D-Rex, who inadvertently smashes the door open for them allowing them to get inside. While infiltrating the facility, Tiff and Tuff bump into Chef Kawasaki, who apparently ended up there by "following his nose" into the kitchen. Their reunion is interrupted, however, when a Kawasaki-velociraptor hybrid attacks. After a brief struggle, they manage to subdue this monster by tossing a container of MSG at it, then hosing it down.

Crash Kirby reduces the Chimera Dinosaurs to bones, and completely wipes out Doctor Moro and the Kirby-saurus.

Tiff, Tuff, and Chef Kawasaki then try to escape the facility, but are forced back in along with the reassembled tour group when the other dinosaurs appear and attack. After gathering together in one of the rooms, King Dedede and Escargoon reappear along with Kirby. They then reveal that Doctor Moro has managed to create a Kirby-saurus using Kirby's DNA, as the Doctor comes riding in on the beast proclaiming it to be his greatest creation. After gloating for a bit, Doctor Moro reveals his own monstrous form and orders the Kirby-saurus to attack. Everyone runs back out of the facility to get away, but are soon completely surrounded by the dinosaurs. As the Kirby-saurus reveals its own inhale ability, Meta Knight shows up and reminds Tiff to call the Warp Star, which she does. The Warp Star comes just in time to save Kirby from being inhaled, and King Dedede decides to toss a torch to the Kirby-saurus to eat instead, granting the monster its own version of the Fire Copy Ability.

After Fire Kirby-saurus duels with Kirby for a moment, King Dedede tries to spice things up further by giving the monster a giant bomb (that faintly resembles Bomber from the games) to inhale, but Kirby manages to catch it in his mouth first, and gains the Crash Copy Ability. Doctor Moro tries to stop Crash Kirby before he unleashes this ability, but to no avail, as Kirby activates the explosion and proceeds to wipe out all of the dinosaurs, reducing them to fossils, taking Doctor Moro with them, and reducing his laboratory to rubble. Seeing the bones, King Dedede gets an idea to make an exhibit of them, but Escargoon disagrees with this idea, leading the two to quarrel and the rest of the group to laugh at them as the episode ends.

Dialogue differences between versions[edit]

  • In the Japanese version, Mabel and Samo's lines are somewhat different in tone. Samo does not suggest that Mabel make a distraction so he can run for it, and remarks that the Mabel-saurus is "rather attractive".
  • In the Japanese version, there is no implication that Tuff lost the guide map he had.

Trivia[edit]

  • From this episode going forward, Chief Bookem is voiced by Andrew Rannells in the 4Kids version, rather than Jerry Lobozzo.
  • This episode marks the first time that Tiff provides the opening narration in the 4Kids version, matching the usual format for two-part episodes in the Japanese version.
  • When the Chimera Dinosaurs are reduced to bones, there is no trace whatsoever of the Kirby-saurus. This is supporting evidence for the idea that Kirby himself does not have a skeleton.
  • Notably, Kirby is lured away by Captain Waddle Doo and the Waddle Dees before King Dedede and Escargoon are made privy to Doctor Moro's schemes. This seems to imply that the Waddle Dees and their captain were taking orders directly from Doctor Moro at the time.
