Mr. Carpainter is a character from EarthBound. He lives in Happy Happy Village, where he was once a regular person, but fell under the influence of the Mani-Mani Statue and started a twisted cult called Happy Happyism. He orders his followers to paint the town blue and, with Porky's assistance, kidnaps Paula to make her the high-priestess. After Ness finds Paula imprisoned in a house on the other side of the cave, she tells him that Mr. Carpainter imprisoned her in a prison in the house. He agrees to free her by getting the key from Carpainter. Paula then gives Ness the Franklin Badge which reflects the thunder attacks of Mr. Carpainter.
Mr. Carpainter can then be found in a building in the village, in a room after the one that contains a large amount of his followers. He attempts to convert Ness into Happy-Happyism, however it is actually a trap which allows him attack Ness with lightning. However, Ness's Franklin Badge reflects it, so he must now be fought. After being defeated, Mr. Carpainter apologizes for his behavior. He explains that he acted the way he did because he was being controlled by the Mani-Mani Statue, which can be found behind him. At this point, he gives Ness the key and abolishes his religion.
After Giygas is defeated he can be found outdoors in Happy Happy Village, having realized, thanks to Ness and his friends, that the best happiness comes from being free.
