Wii Wiki's formatting
All pages should be edited with relation to the Wii console in mind, do not try to get too into the lore of the game or other topic. Pages also use infobox templates the most. Files follow a correct naming scheme.
Templates and categories[]
Before even writing in an article of a new page, an infobox template and category will need to be inserted. Infoboxes appear in the top right side of the page giving quick facts about something. Some templates will automatically add categories to them, for example Mario Kart Wii. Categories put the page with others similar to it.
Template | Reason | Examples |
---|---|---|
{{Game}}
|
This page is a game, it should have a game genre category added to it. See the Game navigation to see what categories there are. | Mario Kart Wii has the game template, so it will have the Racing games category added. My Aquarium has the Game template, so it will have the Simulation games category added. |
{{Console}}
|
This page is about a handheld of home console. Only the infobox needs to be added and nothing else. | GameCube Wii Nintendo DS |
{{Brand}}
|
This is a brand of games. | New Play Control! Touch! Generations Nintendo Selects |
{{Service}}
|
This infobox is for a service, if the service is already using a template (such as Channel) it will have the category manually added. | WiiConnect24 uses the Service template Wii Shop Channel is using the Channel template already, it will have the Services category manually added. |
Introduction[]
Pages are edited with relation to the Wii console in mind, do not try to get too into the 'lore' of the game. Put the game in simple words instead of directly copying other articles.

✘ This is too short and grammatically incorrect. | ✔ This formatting is great (for this wiki) and gives a simple introduction of the game and how it got on the Wii. | ✘ This text appears to be copied from Wikipedia. It is recommended to not directly copy other articles from other Wikipedia and/or FANDOM wikis as the topic will be covered in how it relates to our topic and will have issues with code translating. |
Overview[]
The overview gives a detailed (but summarized) look at the game.
My aquairum lets you have a fish tank and you can send it to people | My Aquarium lets users have six fish tanks they can customize. Each tank has a space limit on it, and players can have modified flooring, objects, glass decoration, lighting, and of course, fish. There is initially 14 fish given but are later unlocked as time passes and can be viewed in the Fish Database for information on their species when they are unlocked. Objects such as grass, rocks, and status can be added to the tank but take up more space. Users can also set special days and change the music game-wide. | The game is a virtual aquarium that sees players caring for fish in up to six aquariums of their own design. The player can choose from 49 species of fish (most of which must be unlocked as only 13 are available at the beginning) to populate an aquarium that can be customized with a choice of decorations, backgrounds, lighting and plant life.[2]
The game also would utilize data from the Forecast Channel, changing lighting and conditions based on the weather. However, there is no emphasis on realism; for example salt water and fresh water fish can be placed together and water temperature is not taken into consideration.[3] While no cheats are available for the game itself, it has been noted that the game runs off of the various aspects of the Wii system and with that in mind, the date from the system settings can be changed repeatedly to unlock new or hidden items. Players could also send their own aquariums to other players with the game through WiiConnect24.[3] |
✘ This is too short and grammatically incorrect. | ✔ This formatting is great; it shows what the game has to offer and has another section in detail of how it uses a Wii service. | ✘ Do not copy overview pages from Wikipedia as they will have red links, many line breaks, and broken references. |
Gallery and files[]
Images should be put in galleries at the end of an article, there is rarely a time where it is only one image on an article. The templates explain their copyright status and will put them into a category automatically.
References[]
Official websites should be used as references, such as an archived Nintendo webpage. Independent wikis and databases (such as WiiBrew and GameTDB) can be also used. Articles like Nintendo Life can be used. References go in their own section at the very bottom of a page.
