Dammu review

He comes to know that a royal family member (Kota) is on the lookout to adopt an heir and he agrees to be his adopted son. Now as a Raja Vasi Reddy, Vijay goes to Veera Durgam, where the royal family`s rival leader (Nasser) welcomes him with a feud.

The royal family thinks he`s the real heir and the villagers believe him to be their ruler, but how would Vijay emerge as winner from all these forms the rest of the drama.

With three back-to-back hits in his kitty, director Boyapati Sreenu makes Dammu with a script provided by writer M Ratnam who took basic plot from Rajinikanth starrer Adutha Varisu (1983).

Boyapati uses the same formula of Tollywood action movies with good dialogues, high voltage fight sequences and wraps ups with interesting twist and NTR`s charged up performance. NTR`s performance and his rendering of powerful dialogues make a lot of difference to an otherwise regular masala drama.

Rousing fight sequences (composed by Ram-Lakshman) and grandeur (both cinematography and artwork) have added sheen to this movie that lacks interesting screenplay. The film has NTR in good form, richness, good technicians but it fails to hold in the end due to weak second half and bad climax (almost similar to Seetayya).

For NTR fans, the movie would be a treat as the actor looks dynamic and comes up with an excellent performance. For common audiences, it is another masala drama that offers nothing new and story setup defies logic.

Among the current generation of star-actors, NTR has no competition in delivering fierce performance and dialogues. He proves that once again with this film. It is NTR`s show all the way. He shoulders the entire movie and he looks superb in the role of Raja Vasi Reddy with a twisted mustache.

Both Trisha and Karthika`s roles are poorly written and they lack chemistry with NTR. Nasser as main villain is impressive, so is Kota. Suman`s role is silly. Bhanupriya, Venu Tottampudi, Praveena and Abhinaya make an impression in their characters. Ali`s comedy is filled with double meaning dialogues while Brahmanandam is not used properly.

On the technical front, dialogue writer Rathnam shines. He has written dialogues especially for NTR and they are sounded effective in the actor` voice. Music by M M Keeravani`s is in sync with the subject. The songs `Vaastu Bagunde` and `Raja Vasi Reddy` are good. Arthur Wilson`s camera work is first rate. Kotagiri should have trimmed the second half. Ram - Lakshman`s exciting action episodes have worked well.

The film has rich production values. Director Boyapati Srinu`s screenplay is not consistent, which is the major drawback. He succeeds in presetting the film`s hero in different way, he lost his grip in the second half.

NTR`s electrifying performance and post interval sequences are the major highlights of Dammu. And the movie has rich production values and technical finesse. Other than that it offers nothing new. Dammu might impress NTR`s fans more.
