"The longer this quest takes, the more time I'll have to set myself straight...and try to figure out how to move on in a world without Bristlefrost."
This article contains major spoilers for the recently released book, Ivypool's Heart. Please proceed at your own discretion.
"Alarm flashed from every pelt as Jaypaw detected a strange tang on the breeze. It was the first wolf scent he'd smelled. It reminded him of the dogs around the Twoleg farm, but there was a rawness to it, a scent of blood and flesh that the dogs did not carry. He was thankful it was faint."
Jaypaw's thoughts about the wolves in Eclipse, page 22

Wolves are large, carnivorous dog-like animals that live in packs.[1]

Description[]

Notice: The following content describes wolves from the perspective of the Warriors books. Thus, only some or none of this content may be factual information. For more accurate descriptions of wolves, please refer to external sources.
In the Warriors series, wolves rarely appear. They are large canines that live near the mountains. Wolves live in packs and feast upon prey, possibly including cats as the Tribe is wary of them. Jaypaw observed that their scent is akin to dogs, though their scent is mingled with flesh and blood. According to Stormfur, while wolves are too clumsy to live in the mountain terrain, they prefer to live in open areas, such as the foothills of the mountains, and can travel quickly. They can also howl and have a strong sense of smell.[1] They may make loud noises when disturbed.[2]

Relation to cats[]

"Let's behave like warriors, not wolves."
―Squirrelstar Star, page 168
The Tribe cats share the mountains with the wolves, and the carnivorous creatures pose a threat to the Tribe. However, the wolves cannot follow the cats into the mountains where the Tribe lives due to the rough terrain, but the cats must be wary when traveling in the open foothills of the mountains where the wolves have the advantage.[1] Comparing a cat's behavior to that of a wolf's may imply a negative meaning; when ShadowClan turns on Splashtail's supporters for imprisoning them, Squirrelstar testily reminds them to behave like warriors instead of wolves.[3]
The Clan cats do not live in proximity of wolves. The Clans appear to have some knowledge of them however; at least two cats are named after wolves: Wolfheart and Wolfstep. Coincidentally, both cats are gray.[4][5]

History[]

In the Power of Three arc[]

Eclipse[]

Stormfur and Brook accompany Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight, Tawnypelt, Crowfeather, Breezepaw, Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Jaypaw to the foothills of the mountains to exchange farewells while the Clan cats return home. They stop to hunt but they hear the howls of a nearby wolf pack. The proximity of the pack and the fresh scents of their fresh-kill prompts the two groups to bid farewell and return to their respective homes.

In the A Starless Clan arc[]

Star[]

When Nightheart reaches Icewing, Duskfur, and Mothwing after being chased by the dogs, Icewing comments that it had sounded as though he had disturbed a wolf pack. Later, as the Clans attack RiverClan and ShadowClan torments the RiverClan warriors, Squirrelstar interferes and tells the ShadowClan cats not to behave like wolves.
