Catacombs connect several Gardens of Morr within the Imperial capital city of Altdorf. Rumour speaks of an underground temple at their heart called the Black Sepulchre.[1a][2a]

History[]

During times of plague and war in Altdorf's history, it has been impossible for the Cult of Morr to bury the dead in ordinary cemeteries. They instead interred huge numbers of bodies in the catacombs, a network of underground passages beneath the city’s Gardens of Morr. Although the practice is considered distasteful in more prosperous years, these catacombs survive to this day, filled with the bones of the long dead.[2a] Rumour has it that their most valuable possessions were buried with them, and some treasures are still to be found in the catacombs. This tempts many a brave or desperate adventurer down.[1a][2a]

The Black Sepulchre[]

The catacombs link up several important Gardens of Morr within the city, including the haunted Cemetery of Old Altdorf. Stories say that there is an underground temple, the Black Sepulchre, at the heart of the catacombs. The complex is said to be looked after by a secret order of Morrite Priests who, they say, never see the light of day. They spend their entire existence patrolling the catacombs and keeping the dead quiet. Morrites view this rumour as fanciful but it shows the sort of reputation they have that this is easily believed.[1a][2a]

Inhabitants and Visitors[]

It's an open secret that the Amethyst College has passages leading into the catacombs. Although they must avoid Morrite priests, Amethyst Wizards often visit the catacombs, for the number of dead creates a great preponderance of the Purple Wind in these tunnels.[2a]

The catacombs also make a secluded home for some wishing to avoid Altdorf society: outcast mutants, gangs of robbers, and even Crypt Ghouls.[2a]
