A Rad World, also called a Rad-soaked planet, is the Imperial planetological term for a planet that has been rendered virtually uninhabitable by Humans due to the presence of a high background level of deadly ionising radiation. The cause of this radiation may be the result of the prior use of radiogenic weapons of mass destruction such as nucleonic weapons or due to some natural environmental feature such as high levels of radiation given off by the world's star or an atmospheric deficiency such as the lack of an ozone layer.

Yet, despite this deadly danger, there are still Rad Worlds that have been inhabited by Imperial citizens and from which regiments of the Astra Militarum have been raised.
