WARFRAME: 1999 is a 33-page webcomic that serves as a prequel to 1999.
The webcomic can be accessed from the main website.
Plot Summary[]
The comic begins with The Hex, a group of "Protoframes", hiding from nearby Scaldra, with Arthur Nightingale reminiscing on the fact that most of the Hex have families that they will most likely never see again, most likely for the best given their current status as Protoframes. As Lettie Garcia treats Arthur's injuries, Amir Beckett and Aoi Morohoshi discuss the additional syringes of "serum" that Albrecht Entrati gave them as a possible escape option, though Lettie has her reservations. However, Eleanor Nightingale decides to head out into the open, forcing the uninjured to join her in terminating the Scaldra. Arthur comments on their powers as they use them, and on how Entrati (known as "Doktor Friday" to the Hex) would be their only chance at reversing the changes to their bodies and at escaping Hollvania.
With more Scaldra approaching the group however, they opt to attempt to escape, but the Scaldra destroy their Atomicycles, leaving the Hex arguing on whether or not to use the serums Entrati had given them.
The comic then cuts to earlier the same night, with Arthur briefing the group on a plan to infiltrate Entrati's newest lab at the People's Party Library, with the goal of capturing Entrati to secure an escape from Hollvania and in the best case, a cure for their conditions.
After fighting through the main defenses of the library, Arthur clears the building and finds Entrati preparing to leave. Despite his attempts to capture Entrati, and warnings that the Scaldra have found the Hex, Entrati instead stabs Arthur in the abdomen with a blade, telling him that the Hex must take the serums he has left behind if they wish to survive as he departs.
The comic cuts back to the cornered group, and they reluctantly decide to inject themselves with the doses of the serum, causing the Infestation in their bodies to mutate further, though the Scaldra interrupt them and initially gun them down. However, after a few moments, the Hex rise again, seemingly re-energized as they promptly slaughter the Scaldra.
As they move to escape, Arthur recounts his opening monologue, though he adds that as they find themselves obliged to stop an "impossible thing", the Hex would be "Together. Always."
