The Endlings are a group of survivors formed in Season 1 of AMC's The Walking Dead: World Beyond. The group was formed after two sisters decided to embark on a journey to search for their father outside of the Campus Colony and to the Civic Republic Research Facility in New York. In Season 2, the group expands to include a number of the friends and allies of the initial small group who join in their fight against the Civic Republic Military. This includes survivors from the Perimeter and scientists who defected from the research facility.
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Not much is known about the group before the apocalypse began. What is known is that Iris and Hope were adoptive sisters, Elton's parents were both scientists and were expecting a child, Felix was kicked out of the house for being gay but was shortly thereafter taken in by the Bennett family, Huck's dad abandoned her family and she eventually joined the Marines, and Tony lived in Vegas as a magician and was Percy's uncle and legal guardian.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Season 1[]
"Brave"[]
When Hope and Iris get their first distress message from their father, Elton and Silas are present, having seen Iris pass by on the way to Leo's office and followed her to offer Iris some cake. Elton and Silas promise not to reveal their secret and Elton reveals that he has been sneaking out in secret in search of something.
On Monument Day, after getting a second message and a coded map to the Civic Republic Research Facility from Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Kublek, Iris convinces Hope to go after their father and help him. As Elton knows a way out of the Campus Colony, Hope and Iris enlist his help in order to get out and Elton and Silas convince the two girls to allow them to join the group. Silas is later reported missing by his uncle while Elton is also reported missing by the Independent Dorm. Concerned for their safety, Felix and Huck depart in search of them the next morning.
While crossing an old bridge at night following their departure, Elton and Silas find the Triceratops horn fossil that Elton was looking for, a present for his unborn sister. The next morning, Elton attaches the horn to Hope's old dummy S-Pole and Iris prepares to use it to put down a nearby walker.
"The Blaze of Gory"[]
Iris proves to be unable to put down the walker, fighting it badly until they trip into a culvert and the walker gets impaled upon a fallen tree. Even with the walker disabled, she is unable to put it down and the group moves on. As their journey continues, they spot the smoke plume from the Blaze of Gory and Iris, backed up by Elton and Silas, successfully argues for going towards it against Hope's objections otherwise they will have to take a 60 mile detour. Hope begins leaving clues behind for the following Felix and Huck and after an encounter with another walker, the group spends the night in a treehouse where they play Monopoly while the walker waits below. After a failed attempt to put the walker down with her S-Pole, Hope is able to trap it in an old swimming pool.
Despite seeing the smoke shrouded bus depot that awaits them at the Blaze, Iris, Elton and Silas insist upon going forward, deciding to use the shadows of the dawn to their advantage. While waiting, Hope and Elton discuss how their generation is very likely going to be the last one which Elton explains means that they're the Endlings, or the last of their species. Elton tells Hope that the true Endling amongst their group will be the last surviving member and that person's life and their death will ultimately define them all in the end. Before leaving the park where they spend the night, Hope spray paints "WE WERE HERE - THE ENDLINGS" onto the signs outside.
The Endlings enter the bus depot, getting lost in the smoke, but eventually making it through the fence. However, on the other side, they find more walkers and burning tires, realizing that the airfield that they're looking for must be on the other side of the rest of the Blaze. Elton suggests that one of them can manually sound the old tornado siren on the building in the middle of the Blaze as a distraction, but Iris rejects the idea as too risky and the Endlings decide to go to sleep and tackle the problem with fresh heads when they wake up. However, while the others are asleep, Hope takes her pack and a radio and heads into the Blaze of Gory alone.
At the same time, Felix and Huck follow the clues that Hope had left to the park that the Endlings had spent the previous night at. The two find Hope's sign, noting that the group now has a nickname. The walker that the Endlings had encountered twice before appears, having somehow escaped from the swimming pool, but Felix finally puts it down with his S-Pole.
"The Tyger and the Lamb"[]
Hope contacts the others over the radio and reveals that she intends to enact Elton's plan to draw away the herd using an old tornado siren. Hope directs them to an old office in front of the factory, but, after dodging a walker inside of the factory itself, she struggles with the siren after the crank breaks. In the office, the others reunite with Felix and Huck as Hope manages to get the siren working. With the siren drawing most of the walkers to the factory wall, the Endlings make a run for it across the Blaze with Felix and Huck putting down several walkers that get in their way. However, while climbing down a fire escape, Hope injures her leg and, near the exit, gets attacked by a pair of conjoined walkers. Iris saves her sister and puts down her first walker with Hope returning the favor by putting down the second walker and saving Iris in turn. Huck accidentally topples a wall of tires by knocking a walker into it during a struggle. Silas manages to keep the wall up long enough for the group to escape and when it collapses, the tires form a barricade that keeps the herd from following them.
Later, the Endlings relax on a dock where Felix plans to lead them to Omaha where they will wait for the next transfer to the Campus Colony to return home. However, all of the Endlings refuse to go, feeling that their place is with the group continuing their mission. Felix and Huck reluctantly agree to join the group in order to protect them with Felix making it clear that he intends to continue trying to change their minds. The Endlings, now including Felix and Huck, resume their journey to New York.
"The Wrong End of a Telescope"[]
As a storm sets in, the Endlings find shelter in an abandoned high school where they split up to gather water and search for food to replace their dwindling supplies. With Iris and Silas committed to completing their mission, Felix and Huck work on changing Hope and Elton's minds in the hopes of using them to turn the group around and head for Omaha.
Despite the school being stalked by a wolf, Hope and Huck are able to find supplies in the school's fallout shelter's pantry. However, Iris and Silas get trapped in the gym and they are forced to flee into the basement where they find out that the fallout shelter is infested by reanimated survivors who had taken cover there and eventually died of unknown causes. Silas goes into a rage and brutally beats a walker to death with his bare hands while Felix puts down the remaining walkers with his S-Pole.
Despite Huck's attempts to change her mind, Hope is left even more dedicated to their mission of finding her father. However, after everything that he's witnessed, talking with Felix and being slightly injured by Silas, Elton's dedication begins to waver and Felix asks for his help to turn the group around at the Mississippi River which is their last, best chance to do so. Having resupplied, the group departs the high school the next morning, but not before Elton uses his camera to take a group picture of the Endlings.
"Madman Across the Water"[]
The Endlings will appear in this episode.
"Shadow Puppets"[]
The Endlings will appear in this episode.
"Truth or Dare"[]
Felix collects Huck after her scouting run and the Endlings are reunited, now joined by Tony and Percy. Tony reveals that when he and Percy found the CRM truck, they also discovered a coded CRM map leading to fuel caches and plastic decoder overlays that allow the maps to be read. Using Tony's decoders, Iris is finally able to decipher the map that Elizabeth Kublek had given to her and Hope, revealing that the Civic Republic Research Facility is located in Ithaca, New York. At night, the teenagers play a game of truth or dare, leading to Hope confessing that she had accidentally killed Elton's mother to Huck.
Now knowing their actual destination, the Endlings raid the CRM fuel depot for the needed fuel for their truck, splitting up to search. Tony and Felix find the fuel as well as a locked cabinet containing CRM codebooks that they take. Hope and Huck encounter Walter, a hostile survivor who was living in the depot with his brother before his brother had suddenly died, turned and bit him. Walter takes Hope hostage, forcing Huck to negotiate with Walter. Promising to save Walter, Huck is able to disarm him, but she kills Walter rather than trying to save him from his bite.
The Endlings stop at a recreation center for the night where Tony and Percy reveal that they have decided to join the Endlings mission to save Leo rather than just giving them a ride. Percy, who has been developing a closer relationship with Iris much to Silas' jealousy, creates a romantic setup for Iris in the truck, but later that night, while going to investigate a noise, she finds Tony dead in the bathroom with his head bashed in next to Silas' bloody wrench and a trail of Percy's blood leading out of a broken window. Investigating a nearby stall, Felix finds a drunk Silas passed out and covered in blood, apparently Tony's killer.
"The Sky Is a Graveyard"[]
The Endlings will appear in this episode.
"The Deepest Cut"[]
The Endlings will appear in this episode.
"In This Life"[]
At the research facility, Lyla Belshaw prepares to reveal to Leo Bennett that the CRM will have Hope at the research facility within 24 hours. However, Leo expresses his suspicions about the sudden departure of Dr. Samuel Abbott and the continued absence of Will and Romano. Leo asks for Lyla's help to prove that the CRM are lying to them.
On the road, Hope confronts Huck at gunpoint about her being a CRM agent. Huck eventually admits it, explaining that she had faked the distress messages from Leo. Due to Hope's unique gifts, she is extremely valuable to the CRM, but Huck felt that she needed to make the cross-country journey in order to understand what the CRM is trying to save: civilization and the future. Huck also admits to murdering Tony, justifying it by the fact that, with the CRM Maps and the truck, the Endlings were "two days away from knocking on the CR's door" which would've resulted in the CRM killing everybody. Huck insists that she had tried to split the group up without hurting anyone, but that she was left with no choice in the end.
At the same time, Elton and Percy manage to find Silas and reveal to him that it was actually Huck who killed Tony and shot Percy and that he's innocent. As the three plan to go after their friends, the CRM finds the warehouse where they're at and Silas surrenders himself to them in order to buy Elton and Percy time to escape.
After discovering the supplies that they need at the Red Maple, Iris and Felix repair the CRM truck and track down Hope and Huck. In the confrontation that follows, Huck nearly kills Felix until Hope threatens suicide and willingly agrees to go with Huck. Hope recognizes that the CRM will just keep hunting for her if she runs and Huck directs Iris and Felix to safety five miles north. Privately, Hope tells her sister that it's really the two of them together that are the asset and that with Iris' smarts, bravery, instincts and fight, the CRM has no idea what she can do and that's how they're going to beat them. The CRM thinks that they need Hope to save the world, but they're going to save the world from the CRM together.
Huck takes Hope to a field where they rendezvous with a CRM helicopter and Elizabeth Kublek who Hope is surprised to learn is Huck's mother. Elizabeth worries about the loose ends, specifically the truck and the rest of the Endlings and intends to deal with them despite Huck's reassurances that they are not a threat. Huck is less than pleased, having wanted to send the others home, but Elizabeth tells her that she had to step in to ensure the success of her daughter's mission after the incident back home before Huck left for Omaha put her judgment into question. Elizabeth has ensured that Huck's mission to bring the asset to them was an unmitigated success with no loose ends. Before the three women fly off in the helicopter. Elizabeth tells her daughter that they will have to talk about the Campus Colony as a lot's happened since Huck left.
After leaving Hope and Huck, Iris and Felix encounter Will who had thought them to be dead. Will realizes that Iris and Felix don't know that the Campus Colony has been destroyed.
Season 2[]
"Konsekans"[]
In the woods, Felix and Iris are reunited with Will Campbell who reveals that the CRM had tried to kill him after Will had asked too many questions about the communications break with Omaha. Will and Romano, realizing the setup, managed to kill five CRM soldiers and escape, but Romano was killed by Lieutenant Frank Newton. Will reveals that a few days later, he had witnessed the CRM airlifting in shipping containers carrying supplies taken from Omaha and the Campus Colony and learned that they had been destroyed, apparently by a massive herd that moved through them. Felix and Iris are devastated by this news and Will takes them to the Perimeter, an artist's colony a few miles from the Civic Republic Research Facility, that has a neutrality deal with the CRM. Although Felix and Iris want to take action against the CRM immediately, Will, who has been drawing out the layout of the research facility warns them that it is heavily guarded and too dangerous to approach. Instead, the Endlings must play the long game, not just getting those that they care about back. It's about not just how they get in, but how they get Hope and Leo out and where they go after and the safety of not just themselves, but the people of the Perimeter who are giving them shelter. One wrong move means the end for all of them.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth Kublek takes Hope and Huck to the ruins of Albany where she reveals the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony. Not wanting to bring Hope in until she's sure that Hope is dedicated to working towards a future, Elizabeth releases her into the ruined city to make a choice between trying to make it on her own and working with the CRM towards a future. While she's gone, Elizabeth reveals that the CRM has interrogated Silas who hasn't told them anything and they need to know if the rest of the Endlings know too much or if they are still resolved on saving Leo and now Hope. If they do, the Endlings will need to be dealt with. Elizabeth asks how much they know about the CRM and the mission. Huck lies to her mother that the Endlings don't know anything about the CRM's plans or her mission.
Hope eventually contacts Elizabeth and agrees to work with the CRM towards a future. Taken the research facility, Hope admits to Huck that while she knows that she can't make it on her own and is willing to work towards making a future, she has no intention of actually working with the CRM. Huck reveals that Felix and Iris are at a settlement nearby and, with Huck having lied about their level of knowledge, they will be safe as long as the CRM doesn't find out the truth, even if they discover where Felix and Iris are. To this end, Hope must keep silent about how much she and the others know, including to Leo, or she risks all of their lives. Huck also suggests a solution for what to do with Silas to Elizabeth. Hope is later reunited with her father at long last.
At night, haunted by a nightmare of an empty with a CRM helmet beneath its face and questions about why the CRM would cover up the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony, Iris ambushes a CRM soldier patrolling in the woods. Iris finally realizes the terrible truth, that the CRM was responsible for the destruction of her home and kills the soldier in revenge.
"Foothold"[]
Felix finds Iris in the woods after she kills the CRM soldier. With more CRM soldiers patrolling nearby, Iris and Felix are forced to silently kill a small herd and hide to avoid detection.
In order to hide the murder and protect the Perimeter, Iris, Felix and Will capture an empty and dress it up as Will to make it appear as if Will and the soldier had killed each other. Iris shares her deduction that the CRM had destroyed Omaha and the Campus Colony with her friends, something that Will admits had crossed his mind as well. Brody tries to have them thrown out of the Perimeter for their actions, but Indira is convinced to let them stay. The CRM searches the Perimeter for Will and their missing soldier before the bodies are found and they are successfully fooled into thinking that Will is dead.
At the research facility, Leo, having learned about the CRM's manipulations towards his daughters, pushes Elizabeth Kublek to find and bring him Iris and Felix while Hope explores the facility, takes notes on its security, befriends Mason Beale and is given a tour by Lyla Belshaw. Hope becomes interested in her father's research and hesitates to tell Leo the truth about her cross-country journey.
Silas is taken to work at a CRM culling facility run by Dennis Graham where Dennis, Webb, Grady and Tiga work to clear New York of the undead. Silas learns that the culling facility has connections to the research facility that the Endlings had been searching for. Unknown to Silas, Dennis is actually Huck's husband.
After successfully fooling the CRM, Iris and Felix work together to wipe out a herd. Iris declares that although the CRM doesn't know it yet, they are now at war with the Endlings, something that Felix agrees with.
"Exit Wounds"[]
Hope settles into life at the research facility, attending school, mingling with Mason Beale and the other students and suggesting the idea of using yeast fermentation in accelerating the decay of the undead. However, Leo pushes his daughter for answers and for Huck to find Iris and Felix. For her success in her mission, Huck is restored to active duty, but she struggles with the things that she was forced to do and to reconnect with her husband Dennis Graham who had made a mistake that had led to her taking the Omaha assignment.
Elsewhere, Elton and Percy continue their search for their friends, finding a horse that Elton dubs Teresa, but losing Silas' belongings in the process. The two come across Asha and Dev, a pair of siblings that the hungry Percy decides to rob for their food despite Elton advocating approaching them openly. Percy's attempt at theft leads to Asha and Dev chasing them, a fight with a herd, Elton getting bitten, although he is protected by his suit and Elton and Percy being captured.
Asha and Dev take Elton and Percy home to their community which turns out to be the Perimeter. Asha and Dev, the children of Indira, the leader of the Perimeter, were aware of Elton and Percy's identities the whole time as Iris had told Indira about her missing friends. Iris, Elton and Percy are reunited for the first time since Huck had murdered Tony Delmado and tried to kill Percy, although Felix and Will are out on patrol at the time of the reunion. Iris informs Elton and Percy about the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony and her belief that the CRM is responsible.
That night, as Iris treats Percy's wound, Hope and Huck arrive at the Perimeter after Hope successfully convinces Huck to take her to see Iris and Felix.
"Family Is a Four Letter Word"[]
At the Perimeter, most of the Endlings are reunited for the first time since the group split up. Huck reveals to the others that she had sent Silas to a culling facility nearby where he is safe. Huck and Hope attempt to convince Iris and Felix to come to the research facility with them, but they reveal their suspicions that the CRM had been responsible for the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony, something that Huck refuses to believe. Hope and Iris head off to talk alone and Iris fails to convince Hope to stay and Hope fails to convince Iris to leave with her.
Hiding behind a nearby house, Elton flees into the woods, not yet ready to confront Hope following her confession to accidentally killing his mother. Elton discovers secret dialysis equipment from the Civic Republic hidden away in an old hunting blind and Asha tells him that she has kidney failure and convinces Elton to keep her secret.
While they wait for Hope and Iris to finish talking, Huck and Felix head into the nearby woods where she reveals the supposed death of Will. Attacked by an empty, Felix nearly uses it to kill Huck and frame her death as an empty attack, but he relents for now. Having witnessed Huck's arrival, a vengeful Percy tries to kill her. Having spotted Percy, Will and Felix stop him, in the process revealing Will's survival to Huck. Will reveals the CRM's attempt to murder him and the death of Romano to Huck who continues to refuse to believe that the CRM was responsible for the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony. However, she promises to keep Will's survival a secret, telling Felix and Will that like it or not, Huck is the closest thing that the Endlings have to a friend in the CRM.
Near sunrise, Hope and Huck depart for the research facility, having failed to convince Iris and Felix to come back with them. However, the revelation of the attempted murder of Will convinces Hope of the truth. With Huck in earshot, Iris keeps Percy's survival a secret from her sister. Later, after learning of Silas' whereabouts, Will says that he might know a way to rescue Hope and Leo from the research facility.
At the same time, Silas continues his work at the culling facility, but he remains determined to find his friends, believing that they are possibly in danger from Huck. Silas is caught trying to sneak out by Webb, Grady and Tiga. After hearing Silas' concerns, Dennis suggests that his friends may have already learned about Huck and dealt with her, despite Silas' insistence that Dennis doesn't know Huck, both men unaware that Silas is talking about Dennis' wife. Ultimately, Dennis convinces Silas to remain at the culling facility and to trust in his friends to be alright on their own, pointing out that heading out into the wild to search for them won't help anyone.
"Quatervois"[]
Iris, Percy, Felix and Will visit the culling facility where most of the Endlings are reunited with Silas for the first time since Silas exiled himself from the group. The Endlings catch Silas up on recent events, including the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony by the CRM and ask for his help with breaking Leo and Hope out of the research facility. The plan is for Silas to borrow Dennis' key card and one of the facility's trucks and use it to pick them up at the Detritus Terminal. After picking up the others, they will lay low until the heat dies down and set out for Portland. Silas eventually agrees to the plan and Iris gives him a drawing that she had made of the Endlings.
After learning of Iris and Felix's plan to infiltrate the facility, Indira offers to instead turn them in which will make it less suspicious. If the escape plan fails, Will is able to come up with a dead drop using the supply delivery to the Perimeter the next day. Although Elton decides to remain behind with Will, Percy dresses up as Elton so that he can help ensure Iris' escape before attempting to get his revenge on Huck for his uncle's murder. Iris, Felix and Percy succeed in fooling Elizabeth Kublek who allows them to stay at the research facility.
The Bennett family is finally reunited with Leo having already been informed of the truth by Hope after her visit to the Perimeter. Although reluctant about the Endlings' escape plan due to the dangers, Leo agrees, although he attempts to tell Lyla Belshaw first, believing that she can be trusted and possibly can come with them. However, Silas is apprehended outside of the Detritus Terminal by CRM soldiers led by Corporal Diane Pierce, foiling the escape plan.
During this time, her faith in the CRM's honesty shaken, Huck investigates by breaking into her mother's safe. Huck discovers coded transmissions regarding Project V and brings them to Leo, revealing that the transmissions prove that the CRM had led the walkers to Omaha and the Campus Colony. Huck points out that the letters and numbers aren't a part of the CRM code and Leo recognizes them as the coding system for test subjects. Huck doesn't know how it all fits, but some of the people killed in Omaha and the Campus Colony were being used for research, research that Huck thinks is still being done right here in the research facility. Huck needs Leo's help to figure out what the hell's going on and who's involved so they can stop it.
"Who Are You?"[]
From the coded transmissions that Huck stole, Leo determines that the CRM used some sort of large-scale chemical weapon on Omaha and the Campus Colony and guesses that the V at the top of the documents refers to a project of some sort at the research facility. As such, the Endlings agree to cancel their escape plan in favor of finding answers. Using the prearranged dead drop, Percy sends a message from Iris to Will and Elton about the change in plan.
After realizing that Lyla is involved, Leo invites her to dinner as a distraction and has Felix and Huck search for answers. The two discover daily trips that Lyla makes to a seemingly-empty area of the facility on Sublevel 7. In order for Felix to get in, Huck blows the research facility's power generator, creating a blackout. Felix discovers that the room is a cold storage with frozen empty test subjects, vials of the deadly gas that the CRM had used and a large stockpile of gas cannisters containing it. However, the backup generator kicks in, trapping Felix in cold storage until Huck manages to reprogram her key card so that she can open the door. Before leaving to erase the evidence, Huck reassures Felix that she is on the Endlings' side, at least until she can't be anymore. However, Huck's situation is complicated by Jadis' security audit. Jadis reveals that Huck's mother has worries about Huck's loyalties and that she has formed some bonds and become a different person which Huck does her best to deny.
After learning of Indira's illness and receiving a message from Iris that they are going to burn the facility to the ground once they get answers, Will attempts to sneak back in with Dev's help. However, the two are found nearby by a CRM patrol and Dev is killed while Will escapes.
"Blood and Lies"[]
Silas is interrogated by Jadis about his presence at the Detritus Terminal when he shouldn't have been. Silas claims that he was simply lost with Dennis backing him up. Jadis releases Silas, but she takes an interest in him as a possible future CRM soldier.
Leo tests the contents of the vial that Felix stole and discovers it to be a modified variant of chlorine gas which Hope and Iris realize is what the CRM used to kill everyone in Omaha and the Campus Colony while using a massive herd to cover it up. Hope hides the vial in the Bunker for safekeeping.
Having discovered the theft, the CRM searches for the missing vial, interrogating Lyla and Leo. In exchange for the return of the vial, Lyla takes Hope and Iris to her hidden lab which not even Leo is supposed to know about. Lyla reveals that her work is on studying reanimation as it happens in live test subjects, most of whom were found already bitten in the wild. Having apparently made a breakthrough and needing a lot of test subjects, Lyla and Dr. Samuel Abbott were informed of the operation against Omaha and the Campus Colony and given the chance to test their formula out in the field against the victims of the genocide. Samuel had tried to reveal the truth to the Civic Republic's civilian government and he was killed for it, becoming one of Lyla's test subjects. Although disgusted by all that she learns, Hope directs Lyla to the vial's hiding place, before she and Iris are briefly forced to hide from searching soldiers amongst the empties in the lab.
Taken to the interrogation room, Lyla returns the vial to the CRM and reveals that Leo had stolen it with the help of his daughters and Felix. Confident that Leo is too valuable for the CRM to kill, Lyla reveals the truth to him about Project Votus and Jadis agrees to release Leo and Felix and leave Hope and Iris alone if Leo will commit himself to the project which Leo reluctantly accepts.
With Lyla having apparently had a breakthrough with her research due to how long Barca is taking to reanimate, she leads Jadis and Huck to her lab. However, Barca has already reanimated by the time that 7 hours 48 minutes have passed which is rare, but not unusual. With Lyla having failed the CRM too many times and Leo posed to take over her work, Jadis orders Huck to release Barca upon Lyla. Despite Lyla's pleas for her life, Huck cuts Barca free and she and Jadis watch as Barca chases Lyla around before finally biting her in the neck, killing Lyla. Jadis reveals that she intends to frame Lyla's death as a lab accident and that she knew all along that Lyla had been covering up for Leo. As a result, Jadis had used Huck to help her install Leo as Lyla's replacement while testing Huck's loyalty by having her be the one to interrogate Leo and release Barca to kill Lyla. Calling it a productive day, Jadis feels that it's only fair that Huck should be debriefed on the entire scope of the project. Jadis wants Huck to be a part of it as she has earned it. Huck is surprised to learn that there's more and Jadis reveals that the destruction of the Campus Colony and Omaha are all a part of a tactical military operation. What comes next won't be easy, but it will secure their future for centuries to come.
With Huck having gained Jadis' trust, she reveals to Huck that the CRM intends to use the chlorine gas stored at the research facility to wipe out the 87,000 people living in Portland. Returning to her apartment, Huck is confronted by a vengeful Percy who wants to kill Huck for shooting him and murdering his uncle. However, Huck is able to talk Percy down and reveals to him what Jadis has told her about the CRM's intentions.
Percy warns the rest of the Endlings and, upon learning of the CRM's plan, Hope decides that they need to not only destroy the gas, but to destroy the entire research facility itself and get away with the scientists and their research. Huck visits the culling facility where she reveals the truth to a horrified Dennis as well. Dennis agrees to join the Endlings and their fight to stop the CRM and Huck promises to contact him once she and the others have a plan. Silas returns from guard duty and is reunited with Huck for the first time since she framed him for Tony's murder and Silas exiled himself from the Endlings as a result. Huck approaches the furious Silas and tells him that they have a lot to talk about.
"Returning Point"[]
Leo reveals the proof about the CRM's genocides to the other scientists who agree to join the escape and the Endlings' cause.
At the culling facility, Huck gathers weapons and explosives from Dennis' supplies before Dennis and Silas make their way towards the Perimeter to inform the others of the plan. However, they are delayed when the two are forced to hide and wait for a herd to pass.
Growing increasingly suspicious, Jadis has the research facility locked down, but the scientists, their security details, Felix, the Bennett's, Percy and a captured Mason Beale seal themselves into the biocontainment unit where the facility's own security protocols force the CRM to wait until the system reboots to get at them.
After Will returns to the Perimeter with the news of Dev's death, Indira orders an evacuation and reveals her illness and secret deal for treatment with Elizabeth Kublek. However, in order to secure his own future, Brody approaches Jadis and reveals the Perimeter's actions, causing Jadis to dispatch Sergeant Mills and his team to eliminate everyone. Brody attempts to blackmail Huck into securing him a place in the Civic Republic, but she executes him in response.
Mills and eight CRM soldiers storm the partially-evacuated Perimeter where they prepare to execute a number of residents including Indira, Elton, Asha and Robin. After Indira fails to talk Jadis down, she orders Mills to carry out the execution, but a hidden Will shoots Mills and triggers a gunfight, joined by the just arrived Silas and Dennis. Robin and two residents of the Perimeter are killed in the gunfight, but Silas, Indira and Dennis manage to kill all of the CRM soldiers. Silas then explains to his friends that he and Dennis had come to tell them about the plan and that the others are escaping. Dennis orders Silas to get the supplies and his friends to the rendezvous and to be ready, before discovering that he has been severely wounded and collapsing.
At the research facility, the group in the biocontainment unit are able to use the time that they are trapped to break into the old mining tunnels beneath the facility and escape. The C4 charges that they leave behind kills four more CRM soldiers and blocks the tunnel entrance that they had used, keeping Lieutenant Frank Newton and his men from following them. Jadis informs Huck that all of the scientists' research has been wiped from the mainframe aside from what the group are taking with them. Jadis calls it a rebellion and one that endangers everything that the Civic Republic has ever done and stands for. Jadis has soldiers stationed at every tunnel exit and gives Corporal Diane Pierce shoot to kill orders on everybody, intending to make an example out of them.
"Death and the Dead"[]
At the culling facility, Silas and Elton treat Dennis' gunshot wound. Although Elton successfully manages to remove the bullet, Dennis is out of antibiotics.
At the same time, the Endlings' rebellion continues as they escape into Lyla Belshaw's lab and send a number of the empty test subjects, including Samuel Abbott, into the tunnels. The empties are put down by the CRM fireteams, but some have C4 attached to their backs while the Bennetts, Felix and the scientists detonate, killing the fireteams sent after them.
Having made a point, Leo contacts Jadis and reveals that they're holding Mason Beale hostage. Despite Jadis' attempts to talk Leo down with logic, he refuses to have anything more to do with the CRM after the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony and demands that the two biggest transport trucks that the CRM has be backed up to service entrance near Guard Gate 1 with full tanks of gas and no tricks. Jadis reluctantly complies and Felix performs an inspection of the trucks to confirm that Jadis kept her word. Leo departs with the scientists, making it appear that everyone left while in reality, Hope, Iris, Felix and Percy remain behind with the captive Mason.
Silas and Elton gather a massive herd at the culling facility using Dennis' music and use firecrackers to lead it to the research facility. With Dennis severely wounded, Silas decides to continue on to the research facility rather than breaking off to meet up with the others.
Following the departure of Leo and the other scientists, Hope and Felix visit the cold storage area of the facility to destroy the gas with C4. However, they discover that Jadis has cut the power, unleashing the empty test subjects that were kept in cold storage. Hope and Felix put down several test subjects, including a reanimated Lyla Belshaw, but discover that the gas is gone and realize that Jadis had anticipated their actions and had it moved. Unable to find the gas and with Mason insisting that he doesn't know where it is, Hope, Iris, Felix and Percy decide to make their escape.
Outside, the herd, numbering around a thousand empties, begins to overrun the research facility, having been undetected as the patrols in the direction that the herd comes from had been redirected into and died in the tunnels. The herd quickly overruns the CRM's checkpoints due to it being too numerous for them to counter and the CRM is unable to reach their helicopters to drop disruption charges on it.
Upon reaching the facility, Silas and Elton sneak in to search for antibiotics for Dennis. Silas is confronted by his former coworker Webb, now a CRM cadet, who quickly deduces that Silas is one of the insurgents that they're searching for. However, Elton subdues Webb before he can kill Silas and the two are able to find the medical storage room, stealing the antibiotics for Dennis and the medicine that Indira needs for her kidney failure. Recovering, Webb attempts to break into the room, but he only succeeds in drawing attention to himself and is devoured by empties that break in through the hallway window. Surrounded, Elton comes up with the idea of him and Silas rolling the Perimeter's globe sculpture down the hill as an escape method and they successfully manage to escape, rolling over a number of empties on their way down the hill.
Preparing to escape in a Humvee that Percy had stolen the keys to, Hope, Iris, Felix, Percy and Mason are confronted by Jadis, Huck and a number of CRM soldiers, leading to a standoff. Communicating over a private radio channel, Iris confronts Jadis about the CRM's genocides in Omaha and the Campus Colony and she reveals that "two years ago, the CRM's modeling revealed that the Alliance would soon become a drain on the Civic Republic's resources. Omaha, the Campus Colony, Portland... had become too reliant. They'd never be fully self-sustaining. So, it was only a matter of time before thousands faced a famine of devastating proportions. At best, those thousands would have died slowly. At worst, disease and conflict would have spread through the Civic Republic itself, and then? The light of the world... extinguished forever. Death wins. We made the choice to spare them that by ending it quickly for them so that there could be a chance for humanity to survive. What we did to your home was mercy." Jadis adds that the CRM had extracted all assets, including 10,000 children and the brightest minds such as Leo and Hope and brought them to the research facility to continue contributing. However, the rebellion compromises and threatens to destroy everything that the CRM has worked for.
As empties begin to close in on the group, Felix is forced to open fire on them, allowing Mason to break free and escape, sparking a firefight between the Endlings and the CRM. Huck joins Iris and Felix in killing the soldiers and holds Jadis at gunpoint, but Percy is killed while chasing after an unrepentant Mason. After Iris talks Hope down from killing Mason, the sisters and Hope flee in the Humvee. Jadis offers to give Huck a 5 to 10 minute headstart if she lets Jadis live. With empties closing in on Mason, Jadis rushes to his rescue as Huck makes her own escape in a jeep.
Subsequently, the Civic Republic Research Facility is completely overrun by the undead, forcing the CRM to retreat to a basecamp. Jadis contacts Major General Beale for reinforcements to take the facility back and to get him to step up the planned attack on Portland now that the CRM's plans have been compromised.
Elsewhere, after being forced to divert by a herd on their way to the rendezvous point, one of Leo's trucks hits a CRM spike strip, stranding it. Knowing that the soldiers responsible for it can't be far behind, Leo sends as many people as he can in the second truck to the rendezvous point while he and the other scientists work to patch the tire. Learning of Leo's troubles, Felix rushes off to help him, leaving behind Hope and Iris who are shortly joined by Silas and Elton. Despite their success in taking down the research facility, the Endlings despair that the CRM has still won as the gas is already likely on its way to Portland where it will be used to destroy another city.
At Dennis' culling facility, Huck stumbles across the gas hidden in cargo containers on the facility's North Pads, giving the Endlings one last chance to stop the CRM's planned genocide in Portland. Huck contacts the others for the C4 that they still have which can be used to blow up the gas.
