Summary[]
The Marquis is a short-run graphic novel written and drawn by Guy Davis, known for his work with Pacific Rim, Hellboy, and The Strain. The series follows a French inquisitor named Vol de Galle as he is contacted by supernatural forces (which he believes to be the saints he prays to nightly) who bestow upon him the ability to see the true forms of demons- which he realizes run freely in his city in great numbers, possessing the living. De Galle goes on a great crusade against the demons, leaving a long line of bodies in his wake. Eventually, it is revealed de Galle's sponsor is none other than the Devil himself, who has tasked him with hunting down demons who have escaped Hell. Vol is left with two decisions: continue his crusade in the name of the dark Lord des Diables himself, or allow countless demons to run amok on he surface, perpetrating countless acts of evil and damning the souls of all they meet.
Power of the Verse[]
The verse is largely in the lower bounds of superhuman strength for the majority of its cast- Vol de Galle and characters comparable to him fit comfortably into low-end Wall level, with moderate levels of hax, including the absorption of souls, possession, and BFRing the damned back to hell. The Lord des Diables is superior to these entities, but to what extent remains unclear- all that is known is that he is the "embodiment" of Hell itself, and serves as its voice.
