“ | I swear it. I swear it on my mother's grave. (Does she have a grave?) Oh yes. I put her in there myself. And when I found her trying to crawl out, I put her back. | „ |
Summary
The Other Mother is the main antagonist of the book Coraline. To persuade children to stay with her, she creates replicas of their homes and relatives that are more interesting than their real-world counterparts for children. Cat thinks that she tries to convince the children to stay with her forever because she wants to love something that isn't her or maybe because she wants to eat something. While it is true that she loves her victims, she loves them not as a mother loves her children, but as a miser loves her money. And when she gets bored of them, she throws them away, steals their souls, and keeps them captive forever.
