Golly, Chara! You're absolutely right! But how could you forget the best part? Is it because you STILL don't trust your own BROTHER?!
~ Flowey finally revealing his true nature to everyone.
Why? Because it's hilarious. Because it's FUN... And because I know what I can DO with this power... The power to recreate the world...
~ Flowey explaining to Papyrus why he does what he does.

Prince Asriel Dreemurr, also known as Flowey the Flower, is the main antagonist of Inverted Fate. He is the archenemy of Frisk and Chara.

He serves as the deuteragonist of the Ruins Arc, the tritagonist of the Snowdin, Fort Aquarius, Waterfall and Hotland Arcs, a major character in the CORE and New Home + Loose Ends Arcs, the overarching antagonist of the True Lab Arc and the main antagonist of the Happy Ending...? and Null Arcs.

He's a version of Flowey who managed to win at the end of the True Pacifist Ending but, due to being unable to control his powers, destroyed the Undertale timeline and replaced it with a new one where the Lost Souls switched places. The only person that remembers the previous world (other than Chara), Flowey plans to regain his lost powers and create a third, "better" world so he could be together with Chara, forever.

Personality[]

As Flowey, he appears as a lonely, but friendly, useful, yet sarcastic flower. In reality, however, he is a power-hungry manipulator that uses Frisk and Papyrus only for his own goals. He is highly intelligent, feels betrayed by Toriel and fully blames himself for his death when absorbing Chara's SOUL all those decades ago. He is completely obsessed about his adoptive sibling, seeking to have them on his side for eternity.

History[]

Backstory (Undertale)[]

At the climax of the True Pacifist Route of Undertale, Asriel manages to steal Frisk's soul and can't control his power. He accidentally resets the timeline, and the six Lost Souls swap places.

Backstory (Inverted Fate)[]

As the timeline itself changed, Flowey's backstory also did, in a weird way. In the original timeline, after Asriel's death, his dust fell on the golden flowers in the castle's garden. Alphys injected the first golden flower that grew in the Underground with DETERMINATION, creating Flowey.

Here, however, Undyne became the Royal Scientist, and took Papyrus as her assistant. Papyrus was the one to create Flowey in the same way Alphys created him in the original timeline.

Ruins Arc[]

Flowey, after realising Frisk forgot about him due to the reset, presents himself as a friend, but decided to be hidden from other Monsters, while mistaking Frisk for Chara like in the original timeline. Eventually, Flowey tells Frisk he has a plan to destroy the Barrier and tells Frisk to not let anyone know about it. He helps Frisk through some of the puzzles and lets them know about their abillity to RESET. After Asgore has been accidentally killed by Frisk, Flowey convinces them to go back to their old save file. They do so, and spare Asgore.

Snowdin Arc[]

After a fight with Doggo, Dogamy and Doggaressa, he learns that Sans is Vice-Captain of the Royal Guard and is enraged by this, remembering all their fights before Undertale. He is noticed by Sans and quickly hides.

Flowey introduces himself to Papyrus (who is a party member), and successfully makes the naive skeleton join the adventure after defeating a trio of bullies (Snowdrake, Chilldrake and an Icecap) who were bullying a snowman.

After Frisk quickly went to Sans and Papyrus' house for a quick nap, Flowey urges them to leave Snowdin as Sans is scheming against them. They do so, but Sans keeps finding them, forcing them to load their save file multiple times before finally deciding to fight him alongside Papyrus.

Fort Aquarius Arc[]

Flowey appears to help Papyrus and Frisk get through Fort Aquarius.

Waterfall Arc[]

After a tense moment, Frisk reveals they aren't the good and chill person they seem to be, and it's just an act. After a talk with Papyrus, Frisk says their name, much to Flowey's anger, who still thinks Chara is Frisk. He thinks it's a lie. He then helps them around for a little while, especially when Papyrus was knocked out by an explosion. He appears at the end before Papyrus and Frisk enter Hotland.

Hotland Arc[]

Flowey appears once in a while. However, in the Prime Tournabout two-part video, Frisk's trial, Sans (and the Snowdin Snowman) reveal Flowey's existence and that he helped Frisk and Papyrus in escaping Fort Aquarius. The Underground is now aware that he exists, much to his anger.

CORE Arc[]

Flowey appears much rarely than usual. He makes a quick cameo at one point, and later, he appears after the fight with Mad Mew Mew after her SOUL mode revealed that the narrator, "Captain Cryptic", is Chara, allowing Undyne to learn that he is alive. After Mad Mew Mew was defeated, Flowey proudly says "I knew it".

Flowey tries to talk to Frisk in New Home, but to no avail, as they are too deep in guilt because of causing Undyne and Mettaton to become an amalgamate.

After Frisk reloads their save file and defeats the Determinator/Undyne in the least-harmful way possible, Flowey talks to Frisk and Papyrus for a while. While Papyrus and Flowey continue to New Home, Chara tells Frisk that Flowey is suspicious. However, Flowey appears and Frisk goes into the elevator. Flowey talks to himself, angered that Chara is seemingly against him.

New Home + Loose Ends Arc[]

After Frisk enters New Home again, Papyrus and Flowey explain the backstory of Prince Asriel and Chara. It is revealed that Flowey feels abandoned by Toriel after realising the only room left in good condition is the Mage's room. Flowey also feels like it's his own fault that Chara's plan failed (ironically, Chara thinks it's their fault). Flowey tells his plan: While Frisk and Papyrus fight Toriel, he absorbs the human SOULs to destroy the Barrier. Flowey talks to Frisk and Papyrus one more time before the two enter the room with the Barrier, ready to fight Toriel.

While Frisk fights Toriel and Papyrus goes to get help from Sans, Flowey watches the fight and snatches away the container holding the Mage's SOUL and reveals himself to Toriel and confronts Sans after the fight is over. Due to keeping the Mage's SOUL safe, Toriel trusts him. After Toriel and Sans go to put the queen in her bed, Flowey tells Frisk and Papyrus to visit the True Lab. After everyone left the Barrier, Flowey breaks the Mage's container and absorbs the six human SOULs. Having control of the timeline, he still decides to let Frisk play around as he believes he "owes them that much". When Frisk and Papyrus leave the Barrier, the former and Chara have a conversation, where Chara reveals to Frisk that Flowey is a sadist, and that they don't consider the flower Asriel, due to their different personalities. Frisk still decides to trust Flowey.

It's also revealed that, after Undyne revealed the truth about Chara's death to the public, Mettaton made a movie titled Victim or Villain: The Truth About Chara, trying to clean their name. However, he never released it, as his agents felt it was too severe, as the public already made up their mind, and going against both Undyne and his fans would be too controversial. Papyrus and Frisk, after going into Mettaton's house for a date, decide to watch it. This leads to both Mettaton and Papyrus finding about Chara being fused with Frisk's SOUL.

True Lab Arc[]

Through various points of the chapter, we briefly see flashes of the events of Undertale, including various encounters with Flowey. It's also revealed why Papyrus chose a golden flower to be the thing injected with determination; Because it has a long lifespan and reproductive potency.

At one point, we get something from Flowey's perspective, where he gloats about everything falling into place. He tells the human SOULs their deaths will finally have purpose; Patience won't have to regret being killed before having the chance to see the rest of the Underground, Bravery won't have to regret leaving the mother he could've had, Integrity will get to atone for all the murders they've done, Perseverance and Justice can rest easy, knowing their sacrifices weren't for nothing, and Kindness... he himself has no idea, but considers the possibility that Toriel will finally be happy again.

Happy Ending...? Arc[]

Frisk and Papyrus finally reach the Barrier, where Mettaton and Toriel are waiting for them. Flowey appears soon afterwards, having absorbed the SOULs of all other monsters in the Underground off-screen, and watches as everyone else enters the scene; Asgore, Alphys, Undyne, Mad Mew Mew, and Sans. After some small talk, Frisk and Mew Mew reveal that Chara is fused with the former's SOUL, and the latter proves that by literally splitting their SOUL into two. Chara then says it's time to tie up loose ends, and Flowey agrees, but asks them how could they forget "the best part"; distrusting their brother. Finally revealing he's evil, he uses his powers to trap the cast within his vines. He then mocks Frisk, and briefly starts talking to Chara, mocking them for thinking he will do the same thing as in the past; But, he never does the same thing twice. He tortures Toriel and Asgore for a bit, saying that he could kill them if he wanted to, but he has restraint. After Papyrus tells him to stop, he then attacks Sans, and says that he could kill everyone if he wanted to, as he did it already. He then says that, despite losing care for basically everything, he never stopped caring for Chara, and mocks Frisk by saying this is their fault; That because they had to be the hero, that they had to be loved, they lead to all this. He then taunts and tortures them by saying he never cared for them, and comes close to killing them after stealing Chara's SOUL. Papyrus intervenes and attempts to free everyone by shooting down the vines with his Gaster Blasters, only for Flowey to force him to step down by threatening to kill everyone right on the spot. With no other options, Chara, Frisk and Papyrus face the flower.

During the fight, Flowey blames Papyrus for making him who he is, as he can't feel love due to being soulless. He keeps blaming Frisk for turning Chara against them and corrupting them. Once Papyrus points out that now, he should be able to feel love with the human SOULs, Flowey points out that, despite it all, he still remembers the thousands of RESETs he did in the past. Upon being asked for a motive, Flowey explains that it's partially because it's fun, and partially because he knows what he can do with the power of the human SOULs. Upon being called a freak by Frisk, Flowey admits he's one, but points out Frisk is no better than them, as they almost killed their only friend before falling into the Underground. Once Chara reminds Flowey of how he already destroyed one world, Mettaton and Undyne realize that the memories he had in the True Lab were ones from the old world, and that the Memoryheads are the only remnants of it left. Once Toriel and Asgore tell Flowey, finally realising he's their deceased son Asriel, to stop, he doesn't listen, and attacks his parents once they save Frisk's life. He then makes it clear he will break the Barrier, but asks why should he settle for "the bare minimum", and thinks Chara will like what he's planning to do. Chara makes it clear he does not care and that he will probably only make things worse. Flowey admits that he's the screw-up who couldn't keep his promise and ended up with both of them dead. Once he captures Chara, Papyrus surrenders, but tells Frisk to run away. Flowey simply absorbs everyone's SOULs in response as he lets out a monstrous laugh. He then destroys the Barrier, and reclaiming his God of Hyperdeath form, reshapes the world to his image; he resurrects Chara, throws Frisk to the beginning of the Underground to slow them down, glitches out the entire world with his sheer power, and creates a giant ball of energy above the town nearest to the Underground.

Null Arc[]

As Frisk and Chara try to get out of the Ruins, they find out Asriel has left messages for Chara, confirming that the Ruins glitching out is a not a fluke, that he made sure Frisk and Chara gaining individual bodies is a permanent change, and that he spared Frisk to prove he's not merciless, and because it's more fun this way. He also leaves some gifts for Chara in Snowdin, and once they reach that point, he saves his file. As they continue through Snowdin, he keeps mocking them, including making Frisk hallucinate Sans and Papyrus. Chara and Frisk also converse about the previous timeline, and how Frisk can't forgive Asriel and that Chara needs to defeat him because only they remember the old, nice Asriel. As Frisk's old friend Lilac sees a mysterious door, Asriel saves his file once again.

It's later revealed that there were more survivors other than Frisk and Chara; Napstablook, the Riverperson and all the robots created by Undyne and Papyrus are still alive. Napstablook due to escaping from the light that consumed everything, the Riverperson for unknown reasons and the robots due to lacking souls. It's also revealed Spamton G. Spamton has taken over Hotland as its new ruler, and is seemingly working against Flowey. He comes across Lilac, who found her way into the Underground. Meanwhile, an enraged Asriel realises Spamton ruined the fountain he made for Chara, but gets over it before the giant ball of energy becomes pitch black and seemingly explodes.

Once Frisk and Chara find Lilac and convince Spamton to let them pass to the surface, the trio finds out Asriel's ball of energy made a hole in the sky. When they reach the city, they find it's full of unconscious humans after Asriel absorbed their SOULs. At one point, Asriel takes away Lilac's SOUL from her, having bigger plans in mind. As Frisk and Chara enter the Rift that he created, they see memories of what happened in the first timeline. Asriel finally confronts them face-to-face, mocking them about having Lilac's SOUL before disappearing. At the same time, Spamton goes to the surface and reaches the Rift, planning to avenge Lilac after seeing her unconscious body.

Frisk and Chara eventually reach a church worshipping Asriel as a god, where the worshippers have them read Bible-like books about Asriel and Chara, referring to them as "The Prince" and "The Angel" respectively. It's also made explicitly clear, after lots of implications, that Asriel wants to destroy this world for a new one. They eventually find out that Asriel turned Lilac into one of his worshippers before facing the first of his Figments, that being his god complex. They manage to defeat it by tearing down all its arguments for godhood and how Chara wants nothing to do with Asriel. Afterwards, Spamton finds the two and gives them some items before they're confronted by Asriel, who separates the humans.

Chara finds themselves in a "perfect" room for them to enjoy, where they're eventually joined by a golden version of a young Asriel. They briefly trick into thinking they've changed before jumping off the balcony. They are immediately saved with the balcony erased, but they use the Punch Card Spamton gave them to escape the room while skipping "Asriel"'s dialogue. They start being stalked by the entity as they try to leave. Meanwhile, Frisk finds themself in a black void with notes left by Asriel taunting them. They are eventually confronted by Asriel, who puts Lilac's SOUL back in her body to convince them to stop fighting, but Frisk manages to shut him up into leaving.

Once Frisk and Chara reunite, the little kid Asriel reveals himself to be a manifestation of Asriel's selfishness and obsessiveness over Chara, but they manage to defeat it by pointing out how Chara's changed and Asriel doesn't truly care for them. In a fit of anger, Asriel decides to keep Lilac for himself, but she points out how he's hurting innocents, just wants a friend deep down, and is essentially throwing a temper tantrum, causing him to rip out her SOUL again. Afterwards, he makes Chara and Frisk relive the day he absorbed the former's SOUL and was killed, until the manifestation of him reveals itself to be another figment; the one of his death. They manage to defeat it through admitting it's not Asriel's fault.

Meanwhile, the main six human SOULs inside Asriel gain enough power to force Papyrus into escaping his body, as a result warping the Rift into a glitchy recreation of Snowdin. After managing to rescue him from his Lost Soul state where he blamed himself or everything, he, Chara and Frisk adventure forward. Asriel realises this, but lets the skeleton stay.

Enjoy your "precious moments" while you still can. This'll be the last time you see this miserable world as it is now. I'm already piercing together something new. Something BETTER. Isn't it exciting, CHARA? Just wait until you see what I've got in store. Then you'll HAVE to come crying to me. You'll FINALLY understand... And then. We'll be together F O R E V E R.
~ Asriel's monologue once Frisk, Chara and Lilac get to the surface.

Trivia[]

  • Series creator Dorked confirmed long ago that Flowey won't become Photoshop Flowey like in Undertale, because he knows that plan will fail. This was proven to be true when he finally gained the human SOULs, but chose to wait until he can get all the others and become Asriel again. That said, elements of his Photoshop form are still present during his "battle".
