You know, I never thought I'd see another like you. A human. Certainly not an employee like you. But something makes you different... I can tell that much. Though I can't say what exactly that something is. Not yet. The others you've faced. 1170, 1188, 1222... been there, done that. Let's try out hand at something a little different. Oh Yarnaby... Please, do keep making this enjoyable for me. I'll be taking notes.
~ The Doctor releasing Yarnaby to hunt the Intruder

Quinn Navidson, known as Experiment-1166: Yarnaby, is a major antagonist in the Poppy Playtime franchise, serving as one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Baba Chops) of the fourth chapter, Safe Haven.

He was an orphan who was selected to be transformed into a toy resembling a lion with hair color and became loyal to the doctor Harley Sawyer due to his presence at his tests, serving as his guardian from anyone who sought to harm him.

He was voiced by Ben Rooker in his cardboard cutout seen in chapter 4.

Appearance[]

Yarnaby is a lion-like creature, with his mane and fur composed entirely of multicolored yarn. Unlike real lions, his tail is absent. His features extend to an orange-yellow face and limbs, with a black line vertically splitting his face into two, while a touch of tan graces his three-toed paws. His spherical head contains two large, cartoony white eyes with black, dilated irises and small white pupils. On his face sits a big grin with three triangular fangs poking out asymmetrically from his lower lip, giving him a goofy appearance. Yarnaby can vertically split his head open to reveal his real mouth.

Yarnaby's real mouth is composed of bright crimson flesh, and the outer rims contain swollen gums lined with a ring of sharp, jagged teeth, several of which are chipped and broken. Closer observation of Yarnaby's true mouth reveals a smaller ring of jagged teeth lining his throat.

Personality[]

Yarnaby was originally stated to be docile, agile, and highly impressionable. Unlike the other experiments, the Bigger Bodies version of Yarnaby showed no signs of hostility toward the scientists and staff. Furthermore, he displayed a peculiar semblance of obedience and loyalty towards certain security officers and scientists, including Dr. Harley Sawyer himself.

During his isolation sessions, Yarnaby developed an affinity with Harley Sawyer, perceiving him as his master, though Sawyer never cared for him. Following Harley Sawyer's removal, Yarnaby lapsed into an unresponsive state fueled by grief for his master's return.

In Chapter 4: Safe Haven, when his master Harley calls him out, Yarnaby is first shown to be ravenous, trying to break the glass observation window in his cell to get at the intruder beyond, before giving up & slinking off.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Superhuman strength: As a living toy whose body is basically a gigantic lion, Yarnaby is remarkably strong. He can overpower most other experiments, as well as possesses steel claws that can cut through just about anything.
  • Superhuman speed: In addition to his supreme strength, Yarnaby is also very fast and light on his feet. He can outpace most other living experiments and can move around without making a sound.
  • Superhuman agility: For a creature his size, Yarnaby has shown to be very agile and is capable of maneuvering around tight spaces with ease as well as climb up and over tall objects.

Biography[]

Yarnaby first encounters the Player after they enter an experiment viewing room, when his master, Harley Sawyer, releases him from his cell to torment the Player. Yarnaby tries to break through the window separating him from the Player, but, after several failed attempts, he leaves the room through a hole in the wall and begins to stalk the Player. Doey the Doughman, however, aids the Player and distracts him, but eventually Yarnaby manages to follow the Player through a vent and chase them through a storage room. The Player manages to escape by locking Yarnaby in the room, and he presumably continues to roam the area, searching for them.

Later in the game, while the Player is searching for a way into "No Man's Land", the part of the factory where Sawyer is located, Yarnaby emerges from behind a gate and proceeds to hunt the Player through the caves. The ex-employee manages to turn on the power in the area, but Yarnaby finds them, and he chases them down several hallways, until the Player swings over a fiery pit by grabbing onto a chain-hook in the ceiling. Yarnaby attempts to swing after them, but he gets stuck in the hook and catches fire (as his fur is made of yarn, a flammable substance, combined with the heat from the fire). He frees himself from the hook, but he fails to reach the Player, instead grabbing onto the pit's ledge for a few moments before slipping and falling into the abyss below, still engulfed by the flames.
