Toru Ayabe is a scientist working for the Red Spade gang and an antagonist in episode 4 of Tokusou Exceedraft.
He is portrayed by Takao Nakamura.
Biography[]
Toru Ayabe was the director of a scientific research institute studying psychic powers by awakening them in children. His institute was on the verge of bankruptcy until the Red Spade gang approached him and began funding his research. Among the children Ayabe experimented on to turn psychic was a little girl named Hitomi Matsuda, who had been traumatized by a criminal killing her parents in front of her to the point of going mute and being wheelchair bound.
Hitomi later used her psychic powers to hypnotize Fumio Tsuyama, a former convict working as a janitor there, to help her escape. As Fumio fled with Hitomi, having seemingly kidnapped her, Exceedraft went to investigate and questioned Ayabe, who claimed to have received a ransom demand. Ayabe sent his assistant Nishiwaki out ostensibly to deliver the ransom money when in fact it was to distract Exceedraft while he went to recover Hitomi himself. However, Hayato suspected something was suspicious and directed Kosaku and Ken to stay behind while he followed Nishiwaki. The two pursued Ayabe after they saw him leaving with several of his men and found him meeting with Hitomi.
Exceedraft then attempted to apprehend Ayabe but Hitomi, believing they were there to bring her back to him, used her psychic powers on them. However, Kosaku was able to talk Hitomi down and get her to stop, while his teammates arrested Ayabe for his crimes.
