~ The Sun Rider's catchphrase |
The Sun Riders are minor antagonists in Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! They were actors summoned by the Skeleton King to appeal to Chiro's interests of their TV Show in order to earn his trust before betraying him and the Hyperforce as a trade for making their powers real. After accepting the offer, they sought out to pretend to be heroes in order to attract the Hyperforce's attention in order to set their plans to turn traitor and obliterate them into motion.
Biography[]
The Sun Riders Aurora Six, Super Quasar, and Johnny Sunspot were once actors that played for the show with their respective name. Eventually, the Skeleton King summoned the Sun Riders and offered to give them superpowers in exchange for destroying the Hyperforce. With intention of cruelly having his heroes betrayed them, the deal was accepted, and they were sent out to stage an incident in order to attract the Hyperforce. As a result, the formless were sent to "attack" the Sun Riders as they pretended to be helpless as Chiro and the Hyperforce assisted the Sun Riders in defeating the formless along with TV Monster. Upon their defeat, Chiro allowed the Sun Riders inside the Super Robot.
Upon infiltrating the Super Robot, Chiro greeted the Sun Riders with open arms, gushing over their in-show adventures and asking them a lot of questions such as inquiring if they were actually real. Super Quasar and the others responded saying they gave up their lives to be superheroes to fight the Skeleton King. As a result, Chiro decided to claim an alliance with them, much to his teammate's suspicion over them.
The Sun Riders began exploring the Super Robot and its unique features. Johnny Sunspot began remarking on the gadgets Gibson built and how advanced they were. However, Sunspot slipped up and remarked on his ability to speak, signaling red flags due to only either allies or those affiliated with the Skeleton King being the only ones who can understand them. Super Quasar complimented the Hyperforce's Super Robot, claiming it was well suited for battle as Antauri claimed they prefer to stay pacifist as much as possible with Super Quasar playing along. Nova talked with Aurora Six, claiming it was difficult to be the only girl on the team as Six said she didn't mind it herself due to her own looks.
After getting affiliated with the layout, Johnny Sunspot complimented their Super Robot. Upon thanking him, Chiro asked where their own base was as the others scowled, knowing that answering truthfully would lead the Hyperforce in on their true intentions. Sunspot decided to reply that they needed to repair it by leaving it at "Star Base 22", however Gibson wasn't aware that such a place existed. Sunspot then whispered that it was a secret and threatened to incinerate him if he told him where it was "as a joke". Upon having the chat, Chiro decided he wanted to try out some of their moves.
As a result, the Sun Riders got into position in the training room as they claimed they'd go easy on him by not using their powers. While they initially fought fair and square, they eventually abandoned their facade and started fighting him full on with their powers. Upon Johnny Sunspot getting furious on Chiro getting the upper hand in spite of this, Aurora Six stopped him and decided to finally set their plans into motion. She gave Chiro the Solar Zap Jacket in which Chiro remembered that the jacket was used by "Johnny Sunspot's evil twin to shock him". Upon Sunspot confirming that he was correct, he activated the suit to shock Chiro as they watched in glee.
Chiro was shocked at their betrayal, saying they were meant to be heroes in which the actors replied saying that they served the Skeleton King so he could make their powers real. Upon hearing this, Chiro tore off the Solar Jacket and stood with the Hyperforce as Gibson destroyed the contraption used to activate the jacket. Knowing they had no combat experience, Chiro settled on turning off the lights to catch them by surprise as the Sun Riders struggled against them. However, the Sun Riders had a trick up their sleeve and performed their "Super Solar Strike" in order to catch the Hyperforce off guard. That's when Antauri suggested to Chiro that they retreat as the Hyperforce ditched the Super Robot using the Sun Rider's motorcycle. As they fled, the Sun Riders took over the Super Robot and attempted to destroy the Hyperforce with rockets but missed as they were unable to pilot the mech properly.
After taking the Super Robot, the Sun Riders decided to claim victory for the time being and relaxed inside. However, the Skeleton King wasn't pleased at them being settled by this due to giving them ample abilities to obliterate the Hyperforce. However, Johnny Sunspot claimed that they were so powerful that they might not even need to follow his orders. After hearing this, the Skeleton King reminded him over how much control he has over them by cursing them into an elderly state as Sunspot took back his words. Skeleton King remarked that they wanted to be "real superheroes" and wondered why they wanted their powers in spite of them getting lazy over using them.
Upon returning to their mission, the Sun Riders pursued the Hyperforce to Studio Garage 22 where they encountered them inside their Nebutron 7 set. Seeing the Hyperforce inside the "mech", they laughed due to it being tiny compared to them after which they showed them their "upgrade" revealing their logo on the Super Robot which struck a nerve in Nova. The Hyperforce retaliated by bashing the Comet Clobber on them, however it had no effect on the Super Robot as it broke down. The Sun Riders laughed at their failed attempt and responded by firing lasers at the Nebutron 7, causing critical damage to it. However, Chiro devised a plan to spin the wheel of the mechanisms faster so they can avoid any damage that could be dealt to them. Frustrated, Johnny Sunspot fired rockets at them as the Hyperforce responded by using their arms to block them off. After this, the Hyperforce flew the mech at head level to try to get a hit on them, but they failed as the Super Robot grabbed on to them before ripping it in half. Just as they attempted to obliterate them with the lasers, Otto saved them by shutting down the Super Robot's systems. Being forced to handle things hand to hand, the Sun Riders attempted to use their Super Solar Strike to wipe them out, however, sensing their plans Chiro ordered his team to keep them separated so they could have a chance against them.
As they fought, Aurora Six attempted to blast Nova as Sparxx disarmed her weapon using his magnetic hands. She was puzzled as she thought he liked her with him responding he did but that Nova didn't which prompted the latter to kick Aurora Six down. Before the two could celebrate, Super Quasar blasted them and attempted to knock them off the robot only for Antauri to swing by and prevented him from finishing them off. As Quasar continued to fought, Otto sliced at him. Thinking he missed, he laughed only for his helmet to be sliced off with him backing away in defeat before falling off the robot by accident. With only Johnny Sunspot left, he used his black hole powers to disable the Hyperforce as he continued firing them at his opposition. With Chiro and Gibson cornered, Chiro thought of a way to counter him. Pretending to surrender, Chiro and Gibson raised their hands to allow Sunspot to attack them pleading to stop at defeat. When Sunspot explained that the Skeleton King wanted them dead, Chiro offered that he should die using Sunspot's ultimate attack like he did in episode 16. Upon fully realizing Chiro was a fan of the show, he decided to accept his offer and attempted to obliterate him, only for him to fail as his hand position was too unstable for it to be used against them. With the three defeated, the Super Robot symbolically locked them inside their mech before kicking them away into space.
After their failure to defeat the Hyperforce, they pleaded to the Skeleton King for a second chance, only for the Skeleton King to reject their offer claiming they served their purpose by already betraying Chiro's trust which caused conflict within him. After crashing on a colony planet, they were greeted by the planet's natives. Eventually, they had a change of heart after serving as their guardian and understood how to be superheroes. They would go on to be full-fledged heroes when the Skeleton King attacked their new home for his own purposes and sent a distress signal to the Hyperforce. After saving the mining colony from the threat of the Skeleton King, his squids, and the Formless, they proved their new allegiance to good and became the Hyperforce's allies moving forward.
Personality[]
While they appeared to be heroes, it was nothing more than a facade to lure Chiro into a false sense of security due to his love for their personas on TV. They've shown to be cruel and sadistic over their betrayal. However, as most of their fighting were fabricated in their career, they lacked any experience on any actual combat. They mostly relied on having high damage and effective moves to end their battles quickly which ended up in their downfall due to the Hyperforce being able to outwit them using their experience in the craft of fighting. They've also shown to be power hungry for the sake of it rather than using it for anything, let alone for good which the Skeleton King even calls him out for. They're also shown to be disloyal, even claiming they didn't need to take orders from the Skeleton King, only for them to take their words back when the Skeleton King placed a curse on them.
Not much is known about what led to their change of heart, but it's suggested that the natives of the mining planet touched their lives. As a result, they would eventually grow to be heroes and live up to the names that inspired Chiro to be a hero like their show intended. They're also shown to be more competent than they were as villains, even successfully outsmarting the Skeleton King's minions at times and sacrificing their ship to defeat the squid army. They've also shown to be much braver and loyal to their cause, even standing against the one who gave them their powers in the first place and would even threaten to curse them into an elderly fate.
